Question RE forum rules

Hey all
I just have a question about the forum guidelines. A couple of things users are not supposed to do are:
- promote or link to competitors
- point people to other places that sell Logos-compatible products
My question is... Why?
I understand the "promote" bit. Don't use the forums to advertise other software. But link to? And why not talk about other places to get Logos-compatible products?
I would hope that as a supposedly Christian company, Logos would want us to be good stewards of our money. So, what is the objection to us saying "Hey, ________ has a great deal on _______." Is it just because Logos wouldn't get the sale? And if so, doesn't that seem a little wrong? (Yes I do understand they're running a business).
Don't get me wrong, I do like Logos and the software. But I'd like to know how the Logos team would answer.
Regards,
Michael

Michael, welcome to the forums.
I think you are the first person I've run into here that actually read the forum guidelines before posting!
Google is a person's friend in locating other retailers of Logos products. They are now few and far between and will some day be extinct.
Logos hasn't objected when some of us advise others to shop around. We just respect the rules by not telling them exactly where.

Hey, sorry if it seems like a silly question

No, I think Tom might anticipate the opening of a floodgate of strongly held opinions and criticisms of Logos coming as a result of your suggestion, that's all.
You are new here and welcome. Please come and share your experiences with Logos and your questions and expertise.

I just saw an episode (season 1, episode 29) of the I Love Lucy show where Lucy orders two sides of beef, not knowing how much meat she is buying. She attempts to sell the meat inside the butcher shop to dispose of some of it.
Advertising links to third party sales of Logos resources is like setting up shop inside the butcher's store.

That seems like a good analogy.
The only thing is... what about resources / books that Logos doesn't sell?
I do see your point though. Gotta love I Love Lucy

While the providers may be few, the products are a fantastic price...
I got a macarthur study bible as part of the macarthur essentials collection. The study bible by it self is like 40$, and the whole collection only cost me 9$ shipped (along with other resources that I liked).
My old black leather MSB is wearing out... bible college + seminary has worn all of my bibles a good bit. Its nice to have a digital copy that lasts.
Finally, having looked into it quite a bit, there is nothing that is available from a third party that you can't get from Logos.
If there is, its hard to find.L2 lvl4 (...) WORDsearch, all the way through L10,

Absolutely, Michael. Certainly not a silly question. As Mark mentioned, I expected the floodgates to open. I apologize for not being clear on that.

Then it would be akin to Lucy selling bread in the butcher's shop. [:D]
One thing I do wonder about are the third party publishers (like IVP and their Ancient Christian Commentary series.) I would hate to see good products cease to be produced due to a monopoly on sales outlets. Once upon a time Toys 'R' Us told Mattel they could not sell certain Barbie dolls outside of their venue. [:(] It is not a good direction to go.

Dan Pritchett (Logos) gave a very good answer in a post on the same subject. I think that you will find it interesting. Here is the link: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/20261.aspx
