Minimum crossgrade made Platinum more attractive

I had almost convinced myself to be content with the minimum crossgrade whenever it was released. Now that it has been, the price difference between the minimum crossgrade and L5 Platinum (I currently have L4 Platinum) is some $350. There's a lot in the L5 Platinum that doesn't interest me, but the following do:
Lange's Commentary on the Holy Scriptures
Practical Works of the Rev. Richard Baxter
Theological Lexicon of the New Testament
Theological Lexicon of the Old Testament
An Exposition of Prayer in the Bible
I can live without these, and I may decide to do so, but these and a few other one-volume gems make the Platinum upgrade more attractive before I knew the price for the minimum crossgrade.
And Diamond even more so, but that's not even a consideration.

I have been very pleased with this addition to my L5 Platinum upgrade. It is worthy of its $159.95 price tag.

I quit counting after I added up to over $3000 retail price on the new books I would be getting.
Similar to my move to Diamond. When the value of resources I wanted was 3.5 times my upgrade cost, I quit counting. Since "Diamonds are a girl's best friend", I could tell my wife I did it all for her [:D]

I would dearly love to upgrade to Diamond, but I surely don't need to go that far out on the limb to get it. Glad you were able to, though, Jack. It looks like a great package.

I haven't upgraded yet, but I noticed that the minimum upgrade from Platinium to Platinium is not $350 but $692 and change. I do not consider this worth at all since most of the new additional books will probably be lost in the shuffle,

It's not $350 but $692 and change. Where did you get this amount? I have Platinium L4

Hi Joseph. It depends on what a person already has in his Logos library. I had already bought quite a few resources that are now a part of L5 Platinum, and Logos applies credit for that in some fashion.

But I'm talking about the difference between the minimum crossgrade and L5 Platinum. If I were to buy the minimum crossgrade, that would cost about $135. Going on up to L5 Platinum would be another $350 or so, which pushes the total closer to $500.

Don't go from MC to L5 Plat as that will be more expensive than just going to Platinum; which has all the features of the MC.

Thanks, Dave, but that is not my intention. I was just relating that the upgrade to L5 Platinum looks more attractive when I consider that its cost above the minimum crossgrade is some $350. I will buy either the minimum upgrade or L5 Platinum, not a two-step deal.

How would you who have it describe Lange's commentaries? Technical, semi-technical, layman, pastoral? Also how does its scholarship fare? Does it remain fairly current or largely outdated? Finally, what is the predominant theological slant?

Will give you a screenshot of a portion of the commentary on John 1:1 and let you judge for yourself. If you need more, let me know

I went from Platinum to Platinum also and for many of the same reasons. Even the small things like upgraded books all added up in my mind to be a good value.
I did the same, I fully intended to just do the cross grade, but after looking into the Platinum and seeing much of my wish list I happily upgraded. There is some serious value in the platinum (at least for me) Thanks Logos [Y]

I have everything opposite. Minimum cross-grade made my Gold Package more expensive (calculating the price of cross-grade and $45 more on the top of that, it came out close to 200 additional $$$ more than was before the min crossgrade). Silver only $30 cheaper. DOESN'T MAKE SENSE with their web calculator.

Are you saying that you purchased the minimum upgrade and then purchased the L5 Gold upgrade? That will be the more expensive route. If so (and I may totally be misunderstanding you), contact Logos. At the very least you can cancel your minimum upgrade, get credit for that, and then purchase the L5 Gold upgrade. Logos is very good about sorting out issues such as this.
I apologize if I misunderstood your post.

I dont want right now extra books because it takes extra $$$. I just purchased min crossgrade and checked the prices after that. Here are the numbers:
Before Min Crossgrade:
Silver - $170
Gold - $315
After Min Crossgrade:
Silver - $147
Gold - $360
If I would decide to upgrade in the future the total upgrade would be :
Silver - $282
Gold - $495
Comparing to the first price of upgrade - DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE

Thanks. Yes, there are other threads which note that. The discount from upgrading to an L5 base package changes after you move from L4 to L5 via the minimum crossgrade. If someone just wants or can afford only the minimum upgrade, he should do as you did. If someone plans to get an L5 package upgrade, he should directly do that and bypass the minimum crossgrade.

What is the point of calculator? I thought there is discount, but seems like nonsense

This is how I understand the discounts. The greatest discount is moving directly from L4 to one of the L5 base packages. That produces the best savings.
However, after someone purchases the minimum crossgrade, he has then become an L5 owner. If he then decides to purchase an L5 base package, he is upgrading as an L5 owner to a higher L5 package. The discount is less than upgrading from L4 to L5.
The calculators are working, but they reveal that the greatest discounts are moving from L4 to an L5 base package instead of from one L5 package to a higher L5 package.

I know the team said they would look into this but I still don't get it. And sadly it's too lafe now as the discounts have been removed. Up until yesterday I still had a discount badge on the Gold package. The calculator takes into account what I already own, which now included the MC. How is it possible, apart from a broken calculator that Gold package costs more after the MC purchase than before? The discount badge was the same and I now owned more books and datasets. And BTW phoning sales is not an option for all overseas users. It is cheaper for me to pay the extra than phone international.

When you saw the badge it was a discount offered as an incentive to L4 owners to upgrade. Now that you have purchased the MC you are viewed by the website as an L5 owner and therefore the L4 to L5 discount has been removed.

Okay Now I am really upset, I want the Portfolio Upgrade which for me will 3300.00. Now that is an investment that will last a life time. I know that is foolish for me because there is nothing that I do not already have in some format or another. (I really did cross check with all my other software and paper library) I have every thing except the new ability to do clausal search. Which I can still do just takes longer. This product just blows me away every time with its bells and whistles. Many of the volumes I desire had been in the public domain for decades, still when they were offered by Logos, like a kid in a candy store my eyes got big.
They keep making the product more attractive even though I know all they really sell is convenience. The clausal search thing is what finally makes me say, stop the madness. I know what the clauses are as English is my first language. It is no giant leap from there to more probative searches.

Okay. Finally got it, but that's a pretty rotten way to market and penalize users who first wanted to wait for the MC.

As Phil posted (http://community.logos.com/forums/p/59767/425597.aspx#425597) Logos are looking at this.

Hi Alan,
Respectfully, it is not a case of penalizing users. Phil Gons has explained this elsewhere. The calculator is designed to take three factors into account, the cost of the package, books already owned and a special introductory discount (intended for those upgrading from a previous version of Logos). The special introductory discount is designed to be applied only once (as it is introductory).
However, and most importantly, I am confident, should you contact Sales, that they will be able to work something out with you. It is not that you are being penalized. You have encountered a limitation with the calculator in taking an unorthodox route in upgrading.
I am supremely confident that Logos will be able to address your concerns to your satisfaction [:D].

Had a similar issue initially, as I did not wait for the MC and upgraded from L4 Portfolio to L5 Silver just so that I could "kick the tires" and see what the new L5 looked like, before taking the time to decide whether the additional resources "new to me" in the upgrade packages were worth the "cost to me." As subsequently explained by Phil, this sigificantly dropped my discount for higher upgrades, and looked like a "penalty" for taking the different route.
Nevertheless an email to my sales rep allowed me to "return" the silver upgrade (Logos have a blanket 30 day return policy) and then being considered as back to L4 I was able to get the originally offered discount in moving to the higher L5 package that I decided upon after spending some time going through the resources that would be "new to me".
I would advise NOT purchasing the MC as an interim measure, but that you only go this route if you intend NOT to upgrade to a higher package within L5. It is quite legitimate to focus only on the resources you see you will use and depending on your situation the resources in a particular package may not be the ones you need; many of the resources you want and need may be outside of the packages altogether. Many of mine had been over the years and that is probably why I was offered such a relatively low cost to upgrade to a higher L5 package.
The best discounts are offered for those making an upgrade involving the greatest number of additional resources from what they currently own. This is probably appropriate as when adding a pile of resources, only some of the pile of a high value and others lower down the priority list or not even on the priority list at all. The average discounts in higher end packages are large and many of us evaluate them based on what portion we would likely buy anyway, assees that cost, then see how many others we would get for next to nothing if we took the entire package.
Would recommend to anyone who has upgraded to one of the higher level regular L5 packages and has some interest in some of the resources offered in the catholic world (which include quite a lot of resources from early Christianity and mediaeval ones from well before the reformation) that after your L5 upgrade you take a look at the "cost to you" of subsequently upgrading to a verbum package as well: you may be pleasantly surprised: definitely worth a look.
