If you "upgraded" to L5 Platinum from L4, what resources made it a good buy for you?

I'm curious as to what resources made the upgrade a worthy buy for you?

I'm still on the fence, trying to decide whether to go with the Minimal Crossgrade or Platinum. There are several Platinum resources that I would not mind having, but I'm not sure there are any on my "I-can-hardly-wait-to-get-that" list. However, I may be overlooking some real gems, and the insight of others could prove helpful. Merely adding a bunch of books for a great price is not a good reason to upgrade above the Minimal Crossgrade to me.

Exegetical Summaries Series? Theological Lexicon of the NT/OT? Others?

Also, I realize that everyone's collection is different, that many have added resources that are now included in the L5 Platinum base package (as I have). Also, I realize that what is important to one person is deemed "fluff" by another. Regardless, I appreciate hearing what is important to you. If you want to add why a resource is important to you, that that will be even better.

Thanks.

The three examples you mentioned I already had so that did not influence my decision. They are well worth having.

NA28. While it doesn't have many changes (from what I've read), it will probably cost about $100 when available individually.

I don't find Lenski, Lange, and The Wesleyan Tradition commentaries compelling, but others might. Expositor's Greek and Preaching the Word are worth having if you don't already have them.

Rosscup's Exposition of Prayer is appreciated by quite a few here. I haven't had time to get into it yet.

Well there were some commentary sets that pretty much clinched it for me: Lange, Lenski and Alford put it over the top that I remember. I also wanted the 28th NA Greek text to stay current.I'm sure there's a lot more that could be made to bear on a decision. Blacks, Expositor's Greek were also very desirable. I'm not sure there will be anything so endearing by the time L6 rolls around, but this was close to being a no-brainer for me.

God was also gracious enough to provide for this, because I sure wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise. [:D]

Is Preaching the Word in L5 Platinum? I'm still not familiar enough with all my new books yet I got in L5 Platinum. :-)

If it is, do we need the Preaching the Word Upgrade on PrePub, or will we get the new books free when it ships?

L5 is certainly worth the $159.95 Minimal Crossgrade. I am thrilled with all the new features that I have used in the last 2 weeks and know there is much more to be explored. Just deduct that amount from the base pkg upgrade price and compare that to the value of the resources that you will be gaining.

I'm a Sunday School teacher. I upgraded from Gold to Platinum when it was introduced 3 yrs. ago. L5 Platinum is not nearly as exciting as an upgrade as it was 3 yrs. ago. I printed out the comparison spreadsheet that someone had posted early on. Some of the additional titles are certainly not "A" list titles.

It boiled down to these facts:  I wanted to get Gold level to get all the L5 features. There was only $120 difference for me to move up to Platinum, since I already had some of the new titles (including 2 of the 3 new NAC titles and the Exegetical Summaries).

I have had the print version of Lenski for decades, so I'm glad to now have it in my Logos library, as well as Black's. I haven't had time to examine the other commentary additions to see their value to me.

I had wanted Rosscup's 2900 page Exposition on Prayer since Logos added it a few years ago. I was reluctant to spend that much money, thinking I would never read through that many pages on prayer. It is really arranged as a commentary on every prayer in the Bible, including good introductory material to each book. There were 7 pages on the 25 verses of Philemon.

I now view as it as another one of the unique specialty reference works that I have in my Logos library like Commentary on the NT Use of the OT and the "Black" IVP dictionaries. Those kind of resources do a job that nothing else quite does.

I have no regrets with my decision.

BTW--I had always said I wished that Logos had a pkg bridging the gap between Platinum and Portfolio. I decided the Diamond pkg did not warrant the extra money for me. I would be better off buying the titles that I really wanted and keeping the change.

I did add the AYBD in the CUSTOMIZE button while it was listed at a great price. Someone said that if you added your upgrade to your basket you could go out to the Black Friday sale, add in the AYBD and the CUSTOMIZE price of $154.95 (?) appeared. Worth a try if you're interested. Or ask your salesman.

Be sure to review the other items available at the CUSTOMIZE button. Great resources at a great price, but I already had everything else that I wanted.

Yes, It's in Platinum. I doubt seriously they are gonna grandfather the upgrade...I assume you will still need it Them. I just looked. Actually there are 2 upgrades to be had.

I was very pleased to receive Exegetical Summaries and Black's Commentary.  Those two alone justified most of the upgrade costs. Then there was some stuff such as Lange's, Lenski's and The Greek Testament that I was on the fence on, but it was bonus. Exposition of prayer is highly regarded by some, but I haven't got into this resource yet.   If you don't have Themelios yet, it is a very worthwhile edition to your library.  There is also some interesting additions in theology as well.  All in all, it wasn't the most stunning upgrade, but it was solid for building out your library.

The difference between the Minimal Crossgrade and Platinum is about $350 for me. It is very tempting.

The difference was $440 for me and I believe that I got my money's worth.

I just checked, and according to my setup, I only needed one of them (#3 Upgrade). #1-2 are included with Platinum.

Thanks for noting this. I already had all that are in L5 Platinum but had not seen the third upgrade pre-pub.

Well I haven't upgraded. But I did take a good look.
A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature, 3rd ed. (BDAG) $150 separately
Believers Church Bible Commentary (24 vols.) I have bought one volume since before, at the same time when I upgraded to L4. Whole set $399.95 separately, I wouldn't need every volume.
Bernard of Clairvaux: Between Cult and History $28.95 separately
NA28. It's surprising that it would be really expensive separately, didn't think about that until now.
The Fundamentals (4 vols.) $24.95 separately

Looking over this again, "upgrading" to Silver and then getting the missing dataset looks interesting.

What both Silver and Platinum have that interest me (upgrade cost: $162.68--well worth the upgrade):

    The Apostolic Fathers in English

The Purpose of God: An Exposition of Ephesians

Lange’s Commentary of the Holy Scriptures (63 vols.)

Walk with God: An Exposition of Luke’s Gospel

Gospel of God: An Exposition of Romans

The New American Commentary Series (the missing 3 vols. from
    my set)

    Dictionary of Christianity in America

Theological Dictionary of the New Testament (3 vols.)

Theological Dictionary of the Old Testament (3 vols.)

    Systematic Theology, Berkhof

As far as "what's new to me" goes, Platinum has the following that Silver does not (upgrade cost from L4 Platinum: $484):

    The Apostolic Fathers Greek-English Interlinear

    Sahdic Coptic Collection (3 vols.)

    Brenton's Septuagint: Greek Text

Nestle-Aland Greek New Testament, 28th ed., with morphology

    The Book of Enoch

Exploring the Bible Commentary Collection (7 vols.)

    Exegetical Summaries Series (24 vols.)

Black's New Testament Commentary (13 vols.)

Wesleyan Bible Study Commentary Series (18 vols.)

Standard Reference Library of the Old and New Testaments (5
    vols.)

Unlocking the Scriptures for You (16 vols.)

Reading the New Testament Commentary (12 vols.)

    The Greek Testament (8 vols.)

The Expositor’s Greek Testament (5 vols.)

An Introduction to the New Testament, de Silva

    New Dictionary of Biblical Theology

An Exposition of Prayer in the Bible, Rosscup

Christian Origins and the Question of God Series

    Themelios 1-37 (1975-2012) (111 issues)

    Revelation’s Rhapsody

    The Creeds of Christendom

Take Heart: Daily Devotions with the Church’s Great
    Preachers

The Practical Works of the Rev. Richard Baxter (23 vols.)

    Handbook for Hebrew Exegesis

New Testament Exegesis and Research: A Guide for Seminarians

    Ministry Letters

    Pastoral Ethics

Pastor, Church and Law (4 vols.)

    Davidson’s Introductory Hebrew Grammar

A Grammatical Analysis of the Greek New Testament

Fortress Press Homiletics Collection (13 vols.)

    Understanding Theology (3 vols.)

The Works of Jonathan Edwards (2 vols.)

Basically, now I'm trying to justify the extra $300+ to upgrade to Platinum instead of just to Silver. "Upgrading" to L5 Silver is an easy call.

The Bible Sense Lexicon dataset requires either Gold level or a MC upgrade. I am really enjoying this new feature. It is currently just on nouns, but is to be expanded to other parts of speech, so will become even more valuable.

UPDATE:  I just ran across another post that someone in your situation was able to add the MC to get the Bible Sense Lexicon dataset for $7 above the Silver pkg.

Hi Edwin. I've read the same about the Silver plus MC for $7 deal. That makes Silver very attractive.

Still, I wouldn't mind having The Works of Jonathan Edwards and The Practical Works of Richard Baxter in my library, too. I need to see some other resources in Platinum that I'm overlooking in order to see it as a worthwhile purchase.

I didn't have second thoughts going from L3 Gold to L4 Platinum. It's more complicated this time, and I'm a bit of a penny-pincher, too. [:)]

With some reluctance, I upgraded to L5 Platinum. L5 Silver was a
great deal on top of my L4 Platinum, but there are resources in L5
Platinum that I felt I would regret not having later on. For instance, I
really like and find useful the Exegetical Summaries Series.

Did you note how many volumes you added with the upgrade? It was about 450 for me.

Hi Edwin. Yes, it was about the same number of volumes for me. Frankly, a lot of them don't do a lot for me, but that's the way a package is. Kind of like satellite TV, except at least there's no shopping channel. Well, I guess Logos itself has the shopping covered. [:)]
