I am unable to simply quit Logos with a ⌘-q, I have to Force Quit.
Could you post logs as they are after a force quit, but before you then restart Logos.
Try a normal quit first, let it fail, then do force quit then gather logs.
Thanks. I would get you the logs, but it quit normally this morning.
Kind of weird. It would not quit yesterday. Quit fine today. I did close all windows before quitting to try this and it worked fine after the windows were closed. Whether that is actually why it wouldn't quit or is unrelated I don't know.
There were updates downloading, perhaps this was contributing. But it has quit in the past without difficulty.
Will get logs if it happens again.
Thank you.
I had a similar instance a few days ago. (Reported here).
Do you remember whether or not the Synchronizing dialog was present? Have not experienced this in L5, but I did have it occur occasionally in L4.
NOTE: Have seen your next post that it has not happened again.
It was hidden behind a window at one point during one of the times.
For me 5 almost always quits properly but it is a long process the sync window is up a long time.

That has occurred to me as a possibility here. I thought about it after I noted Jack Caviness's question.
There seems to be no viable reason for this lengthy synchronization cycle on shut down since L5 synchronizes so often during operation.
Just adding that I always had to force quit Logos 4 and now it looks like if I use Logos 5 it's the same thing. Has anyone solved why it will never quit and always has to be forced?

How long do you wait prior to forcing the app to quit? Is the Synchronization dialog present? Not that I have a solution, but just wanting to supply development with all the information was can muster. Perhaps logs would help.
You might not need this information, but someone else reading this thread might
The most convenient way to enable logging is to use the Applescript LogosLogging by KS4J. (Restart of Logos needed after enabling)
Then use Logos Log Scribe to create an archive of the logs on your desktop.
Use the paperclip on the message prep window to attach.
If I open Logos and close it quickly (let's say less than 30 minutes) it usually closes fine. However on the more normal scenario where I close it after it being open for several days or when Logos is updating itself, I always have to "Force Quit." I don't wait long now before I do it because I expect it but in the past waiting never changed anything. I don't ever notice any other dialog box. Usually the entire Logos window disappears and then icon just says "Application Not Responding" without quitting.
I am having the same problem, but my L5 ALWAYS has to be "force quit"
This.
my L5 ALWAYS has to be "force quit"
As I noted in my previous post, logs would be vital in enabling Logos to find the source of this problem. Instruction are contained in that post.
In two threads, none of those complaining about L5 not quitting have posted logs.
I have no idea what you are asking for, nor do any of the suggested ways of "logging" make sense to me as a computer user and not an expert. I gave it my best attempt with the instructions given. If this doesn't make sense I will just have to call a tech at logos. I have used the paper clip and attached what seems to be some kind of logging report. Hope this helps.

That is the needed information. Unfortunately, I cannot read logs. If someone who can does not appear soon, I will contact one of them and give them a link to this thread. Hope we have a solution for you soon.
a computer user and not an expert.
That is why I provided the links. The logging instructions in the Wiki are not simple, but links to the two apps that simplify the operation makes it easy. Perhaps someday Logos will include this capability in/with the application.
Hope this helps.
Looking in LogosError.log file, noticed "The requested feature is not implemented." that corresponds with an error in Logos.log file about a SQLite database file being malformed. When a SQLite database file is malformed, the file needs to be deleted so next time Logos launches, the database file is created.
Suggest contacting Logos => http://www.logos.com/contact one option is email to Logos Technical Support with reference to this thread.
Suspect SQLite Database file is used during online update of metadata about resources in your Logos library.
One option could be working offline. Wiki has Sign In tip => http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4_Keyboard_Shortcuts_For_Mac

Yup, L5 has NEVER quit for me on the Mac, for several version of OS X. I just presumed force-quitting was par for the course with this app.
What version of L5? Which Mac OS? Please post logs. See the Mac Logging link in my signature. Install the logging utility and post the log files to this thread.
First, however, be sure you are using the latest version of L5—5.2 Service Release 5 (5.2.0.0121) available for download SR-5 contained a fix for this hang problem with L5 Mac when the OS was waking from sleep..
I can add that the latest version of Logos 5 continues to require Force Quit to exit for me. It's actually very annoying on updates because they also make Logos 5 unresponsive and I have to Force Quit it so that it can install an update and restart. Logos has always locked up when I try to quit it. I've been wondering for years why Logos can't fix this.
