Suggestion: Find another place to post PBs
Y'all:
I think it's time to find another forum on which to post PBs. I've seen several posts here about collections that are not completed because Logos is selling a competing product, and we seem to have the copyright police out in full force as well... I have another site, called Bible Soft, that could handle having a forum for Logos PBs (where they are linked off dropbox or other places), if anyone wants to build something there to share PBs on.
It's to the point here where there's little that can actually be shared for various reasons --so I think it's time to move these shares someplace else.

Never mind. I just saw your other post.

The unfortunate fact is that other people have to find another site in order to use it. This forum has the most exposure to Logos users, so it will continue to be the primary avenue of distribution until Logos builds PB sharing into the software.

There already is another place: http://www.stilltruth.com/topics/docx. It's been used since L3 times.

Not exactly true - have you seen the list here that Rosie started on the wiki? It hasn't been updated for awhile because she has been busy, but there are a ton of PBs in the Files group. I have gotten about 150 documents from there in my collection so far!

I have been deliberately waiting to see what Logos is setting up. I've not heard about their PB store for a while but with the sharing of some file types that we are now seeing, I expect it to be clear in a few months whether or not we really need/want another mechanism.
Note that Faithlife already has a group sharing Syntax Searches and a group for sharing Sentence Diagrams as soon as they are sharable.

I hope this cludge is not keeping a much better option (like the PB store) from happening. We still get questions about "what do I do with this file?" While it is not a hard process, it is no where as simple as the point and click to order a book and it automagically is installed. In addition by every user having to compile it, it means that there are no standard resource ID's for PB's, limiting linking oportunities like you did for creeds in L3.

I pretty much agree. However, I see the current direction not so much of a kludge but as a solution to a different problem. I am anxious to see movement on the store front. (ambiguity intentional).

I don't see any sort of "store front," as a solution to posting older and freely sharable works among friends --of sharing work. It's more likely to be a way to self publish, like Kindle, than anything like a forum or a wiki page to put links to freely downloadable works. I suspect the two will compliment one another, rather than compete.
The restriction on works Logos happens to be publishing as part of some other set, or at all, along with the monitoring by the "copyright hounds," who can't seem to give anyone the benefit of a doubt, make this forum less than an ideal place to post such work sharing, IMHO.

Russ,
People experience other people's postings very differently. Thus, allow me sharing my personal impression:
You make personal, accusatory remarks about a forum user who just posted a question - thereby allowing you to avoid making an error that could bring you into legal trouble. Actually you seem to repeat these remarks in every post you made in this thread.
I personally don't see this as a good basis for helpful forum discussion, let alone for sharing resources that people intend to use in growing in their faith.
Mick.

The PB store won't help for the kind of files that Russ want to share/find. They have said very clearly that it won't host files that compete with their own resources, and I think we can be pretty certain it also won't host copyrighted works without the copyright holder's explicit permission.

And let me share mine: Perhaps --just maybe-- your skin is too thin.

I assume you're talking about the "patent police," remark? I understand someone stating "this work might be under copyright," but I believe they could have gone about this in a different way. Jumping down someone's throat in public isn't really a good way to have a conversation, either --particularly when the item probably poses no copyright issues.
Unless there is clear reason to believe otherwise, the poster should be given the benefit of a doubt.

Thank you, Mick.
Russ, I'm not a mind reader. I can't know if you've just forgotten to include a 'shared with permission', or if you didn't know you should have asked for it. Nor can I know if you're the kind of person who wants to be warned when he's doing something illegal, or if you're the kind of person who doesn't care, even if he's dragging someone else (Logos) with him. All I can do is ask. I've actually had other people thanking me for asking that question.

As always...
I was certain when I posted the original link that the author would not mind my sharing them. I happen to have written permission at this point.
As an aside, I keep personal PBs that are chock full of copyright material --books that I've bought and are not available in electronic format, but that I pull in for personal use, journal articles that I've converted to PB format for my personal use, etc.
You don't see me posting those here, or even sharing them with my friends.
So before you go making accusations of this type, maybe you should actually try and understand what happened in the original thread. I posted something I was certain was okay, you jumped down my throat without even the benefit of a doubt, and without trying to contact me in any other way to discuss the issue. So I removed it, and started another thread (this one) about alternate locations to post things.
NOT BECAUSE I'M TRYING TO AVOID COPYRIGHT
So you don't want to be called a "copyright hound," but you certainly want to make accusations against others at the drop of a hat. Nice.

I have read the other thread and this one and I for one did not read anything as "jumping down your throat." or accusatory. I just read someone nicely informing you of what the regulations on this forum are. I think you should calm down and not be so defensive. No one was trying to make you sound less intelligent than you are or accuse you of doing anything intentionally illegal or imoral.

And as Mick said, different people read posts differently. I answered the first post in good humor, but the second reply was, I believed, rather accusatory. Hence my reaction. Now that I've been further accused of wanting to intentionally share copyright material, I'm stepping out of this conversation, and the other thread.

My apologies. I will try to catch up on that list soon. I know where I left off, so I can do it hopefully within a couple of hours in one day. Just finding that couple of hours is the trick. Maybe after Thursday. I'm leading a retreat that day and have to focus on preparing for it.

For anyone who's interested, I've created a page on my blog to post things I've either found interesting, or that I've created myself. I won't be updating the forum.

Given that my own sense of ethics include the same restrictions, that doesn't bother me. I am willing to share such works in a small group of people where I know who has access and for what purpose but not to put them out to the general public.

Russ, I've answered you in the other thread.
