Missing items

For the second week running, we have arrived at Church for the service, fired up Proclaim, and then noticed that there are some items that were in the presentation on my home computer, that are missing from the service presentation at church. Clicking on the Sync wheel made no difference.

I am using a Mac at home and we use a Windows laptop at Church.

My Mac at home is always running the latest version of Proclaim; the PC at church not necessarily the very latest update, (though only behind by one or two updates).

What could be the issue here?

The missing items this week were Content slides with a jpg background. Are some items not 'Windows friendly"?

I do it the opposite, from PC to a MAC and I dont have any issues with items missing. sometimes videos act a little weird. I am running the most up to date versions on both though.

What i try to do is long in very early in the morning to the church computer using Log Me In and sync before everyone across the country logs in and things start to get a little slow and weird.

Hello Will. I'm sorry to hear you've been experiencing issues. It sounds like the newly created items on your home computer may not have gotten synced up, and therefore didn't download when you tried to sync at church. Do you have a solid internet connection on your computer at home? Did you perhaps quit before Proclaim had synced and manually skipped syncing the presentation changes?

When you say "missing", do you mean the service items were not present at all, or that they appeared as blank white slides? If you selected "Local only" when adding your jpg backgrounds for your Content service items, the backgrounds would not have gotten synced up and would appear as plain white on other computers.

to answer your points:

the items were synced, I pressed the sync wheel top left, and didn't log out until it had stopped spinning. I have a fast broadband connection (16mbps), so that isn't the issue.

the blank items appear as black, empty slides. Any images were saved to the server, not stored locally.

so the mystery continues, it would seem. The first time this happened, the content was added by another operator, not me, on their own computer, so this appears to be a system issue perhaps.

Has anyone else reported this glitch?

We have seen a similar issue before, but it had to do with a user inadvertently not fully syncing their items at home, and it sounds like that is not the case here. We did experience some server performance issues on the weekend of January 6th, which could have caused some syncing issues for you, but this past weekend (January 13th) should have been fine for you.

We did also previously see an instance where a very specific image file did not appear correctly on one system. I am following up with you via email to see if that might be the case here.

Having just returned from church, the same errors are happening this week as in recent weeks.

Certain jpgs when loaded from my MacbookPro at home, don't show up on the Windows Proclaim at church.

Updates and sync have been carried out at both locations.

I don't know the answer but you might look at the file names of the jpegs - are the filenames usable in a windows environment.

This is something that has bitten me before (but not with Proclaim) however it might be worth a look.

That would be file name = 94/6724.TrueStoryofEaster.jpg

Note on windows A filename cannot contain any of the following characters:

\ / : * ? " < > |

And hence the file is not the windows machine.

Try changing the file name to 'mustbuythechurchamac.jpg' and see how you get on.

How did you get to see that file name with the numbers? In Finder it's just called TrueStoryofEaster.jpg

If filename is indeed the issue, Proclaim should have a filename filter server-side, and a popup wizard/tip client-side

Sorry, should have replied. Mike's post was correct. Proclaim currently allows uploading files from a Mac which contain invalid characters for a Windows file. I have created a case to replace the invalid characters on upload. In the meantime you can rename the file prior to upload (remove forward the slash).

I thought that I knew Mac OS well, but all I see for these jpeg images is the file name as you would expect, rather than as others are reporting with the Rogue characters showing. How can I reveal these /'s ?

Thinking about this some more, is Proclaim adding these extra numbers to the file name, as it does when one submits a log file?

When I look at the address of the file from the post I now get

when I responded to your post I copied the file first and it came across as '94/6724.TrueStoryofEaster.jpg'. Which, of course the Mac filing system copes with but the Windows one wouldn't

this morning after loading the thread it comes across as '6724.TrueStoryofEaster.jpg' having lost the offending forward slash. So catering for legacy programs.
