Logos 3 and Windows 8

I own Logos 3, Leaders Library. I have not upgraded to version 4 or 5 because the version I have works so well and the upgrade was so expensive for something I already own and that works well. However, I recently bought a new laptop which has Windows 8 on it and unfortunately, the Logos version 3 w/Libronix does not work with Windows 8. I get it to install, but the library's don't show up and the functionality is extremely crippled. I have searched the forums and discovered that everyone has the same problems and there is no solution while staying on Version 3.

With all that said, I really need the easiest, and cheapest upgrade path so I can use my logos library again. It's really sad that I can't use what I've already paid for without spending more money to use it. Perhaps you've got a super basic upgrade path to version 5 core system, without my having to pay for the same library again? This is why I have rejected the upgrade up to this point. It seems silly that I would have to pay several hundred dollars again for the same library material.

Yes, I am frustrated, but I understand your predicament. You pay developers and infrastructure costs, therefore we pay you for technology investments to make our research easier. However, if there is anything you can do to help me with a low cost upgrade to the basic core system that will just enable me to use the library I already own, I would be extremely grateful.

you don't need to pay even a single dollar for your existing library to run on L4/5 - just go to http://wiki.logos.com/Installation_and_Indexing_FAQ$27s#What_is_the_direct_link_to_Logos_installers.3f and install it.

You have 4 options.

1) Get L3 running on your new Windows 8 computer. To do this, follow the instructions in this thread.

2) Downgrade your new laptop to Windows 7. I would recommend this only if you already prefer Win7 for other reasons.

3) Run L3 in a Windows XP Virtual Machine. I recommend the free VMware player. You will need a license to run Windows XP and it will have to be activated inside the VM.

4) Upgrade your Logos. Others will no doubt tell you plenty about this option but I am sticking with L3 [:D]

Thanks for that! I've got Logos 5 installed, but not sure how "limited" the use is? Am I supposed to register or pay for an upgrade? It appears as though it went out and downloaded all my resources and I now have a full blown Logos 5 installation? I certainly have not paid for an upgrade???

Gary ... the free version is indeed free and full-featured (not a sample). Uses all your books.

Dave gave you that link if you'd like to upgrade somewhat for more features that Logos offers in addition to the free Logos5 engine (they did the same in Logos4). If you like original languages, the crossgrade is quite useful.

That's because you keep whatever resources and features you already had. If you look at the table http://wiki.logos.com/Upgrade_or_Crossgrade#Feature_Comparison you can see if there are any features you don't have and the rest of the article should tell you how to get it. But ask again if you still have questions.
