Microsoft Surface

I'm a long-time Mac user, but I just purchased a Windows Surface Pro. Why? I want to be able to run the full desktop version of Accordance (when it is released later this year) on a tablet :-)
I figured I'd just do that in VMWare on my MacBook Pro [;)]0 -
Ah, but Rick, you're missing the point. I don't care about the Windows version per se; I just want to run the full version of Accordance on a tablet :-)

Oh, I got you. Yes, I missed the point. That will be an interesting experience.

I have the 128Gb Surface Pro. Love having full version of L5 in my lap during worship.
SUGGESTION: First improvement to the Win8 App needs to be incorporating the reference search interface that is in the Faithlife Study Bible iOS app. 3 clicks (Book, chapter, verse) is much quicker than onscreen keyboard input into the search window when a preacher is doing a topical message and skipping all over the Bible.
Can I get an AMEN?

Amen! congrats David. It would be very nice if you could allow us to see some screenshots of Logos in surface pro.
Blessings in Christ.

Here is a screen capture of my L5 Layout that I use on my Surface when in worship or small groups.
I can't seem to get the snipping tool to work in the Win8 Logos App.
EDIT: Here is a hint for all Surface models where there is not PrtScr button on the keyboard - Press volume Down and the Windows logo at the bottom of your touchscreen to do a Screen Capture.
Here is what the ESV looks like in the Win8 app on the Surface.

Tes asked for images from the Microsoft Surface...
Here is a screenshot of the main screen in the Win8 APP (Tiles are of books I recently opened)
If you click on the "See all Library" tile the program displays this (Notice: I filtered for "Lexham" resources in my Library)

Wow David! It looks very beautiful, thank you for letting me to view it in such a very clear display.

Congratulations on the tablet. Having a portable and complete version of Logos is awesome!
The verse picker would definitely be handy on Windows 8 touch devices. I started posting issues like this a week or so ago. If anyone sees things I've missed (and I'm sure I've missed a lot) in those sections I've looked through, please add to those threads. I've still got notes I need to get together on other areas, but what I have so far is in these threads:

Randy (Shayne),
Those are some well-presented observations and I truly appreciate the tone with which they are presented. You truly seem to want to help Logos produce a better product without whining about the current state of the program. THANK YOU for your tone.
Dave

David, we appreciate you and I do personally as you steered me here (oops - I actually had never been in this part of Logos forums) and I can daydream about using Windows 8 Pro on a Tablet once I win the lottery now (though I realize that may not be a Godly pursuit...the Lottery I mean).

Wow Tes, imagining spending $900 or more for the overheating Surface Pro and then be saddled with very little time on it before it needs to be recharged.
I think someone in an earlier post said there is a setting that migh eke out more time but I bet version 2 of Surface pro is a long way off. I think the unit I saw in the store was very warm (hot actually) but it was because it had LEFT been on so long someone said.
Thoughts of my $900 Surface exploding or overheating (should I ever be able to actually afford one!) seem a little scary.

UPDATE: I found that opening the Index (the << in the upper left corner of the pane) allowed me to click on the book of the Bible, then the chapter quickly then it was easy to use the touch interface to scroll to the verse.

Joshua, perhaps the one you have seen may have defect. From what I have read the negative side of it are, that it is thicker and heavier than other tables comparatively to others, plus its low battery life time,I would like to hear from others who have the device.
Blessings in Christ.

For a thorough review of temps:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6695/microsoft-surface-pro-review/7I never notice the heat terribly. I usually use it on my lap or on a table when doing serious computing. When I use it in my hand is consumption, not production.
For example, I preached for a little over 20 minutes palming the Surface Pro, sliding up a PDF (in full-screen maximized) that I printed digitally from MS Word. It was comfortable the whole time, brilliant screen even at 50% brightness. But I have to figure out a way to keep the lights above my pulpit from shining off my Surface Pro and causing a distracting reflection (that bounces around the back and projector screen) as I move. Maybe a anti-glare or anti-reflective covering of some sort.

Preacherman and David Thomas, what version of Surface pro are each of you using? And also, if you don't mind me asking, about how much do they run? I see lots of different options out there and if I was to purchase one, I want to make sure the full Logos program would run smoothly.

Liam,
You didn't address me, but I have a Surface Pro with the 128GB SSD. I don't have a lot of software loaded on my tablet, but all of my library (2,539 resources with Perseus hidden) in my Logos 5 directory (16.5 GB) fits just fine.
Really the only difference is the extra $100 you pay for the 128GB model. The 64GB model runs $899 and the 128GB runs $999. It is well worth the extra $100 to spring for the 128GB model. BTW, I have a touch cover as well, and that will set you back another $120.

I got my customized skin for the Surface RT today from decalgirl.com.
The attached photos show a customized skin I created by uploading a high res image of Peter Paul Reubens' (1577-1640) painting Angels Destroy the Armies of Sennacherib, which is based on 2 Kings 19:35-36.
When I was setting it up at the website, the preview image showed a custom image on the Windows RT start screen, but I've been unable as of yet to change that. I did change the lock screen and desktop however, to make the image work with the frame.

I would love a Surface but they are too expensive. As a future Pastor who will preach expositionally, I hope never to take people on a wild whirlwind tour of the Bible each Sunday.
Staying on one passage and remaining there is what I will strive for.

Rick, that's amazing! Did you create the pattern yourself or was it already on DecalGirl? I love it!

I created it myself, obtaining the image from "another" Bible program.

I have the 128 GB (Cost will probably depend upon your location). Previously I had used a Dell laptop running Win 7 and a 16 GB iPad2. When I changed jobs and left that hardware with the church I left, I chose to buy the Surface as 1 device to replace the two. I have been quite happy with that choiceMaking Disciples! I (a full-time pastor since 1988) also prefer expository preaching (I know there are various definitions of this term). Years ago I heard a quote attributed to Walt Kaiser - "Keep your finger on the text." There are times when I quote supporting texts to illustrate other Biblical authors contributions to the subject or historical setting (especially when preaching a narrative), but if the message I preach is faithful to the original intent of the original author I find the page-flipping I did as a novice preacher has SEVERELY decreased.
To justify this post within the Logos Forums - allow me to recommend the Lexham Discourse Hebrew and Greek bundles as a great tool for studying the original intent of the original author.

Chad (original poster) From everything I read Logos 5 doesnt work fully or properly on any android or Windows 8 Pro machine (I know they are different os) at all.
What a shame. I am hoping for a Tablet Application - preferably with full 5.0 functionality - in the near future. Will keep praying.
Slow, expensive, and unable to Highlight as I read and take notes....not good!

Joshua, you got some wrong information somewhere.Logos 5 does work properly and quickly on a Windows 8 Pro device (although the device is costly). The Bible! app in the Microsoft Store doesn't allow highlighting.Making Disciples! The Bible! app in the Microsoft Store doesn't allow highlighting.
Or note-taking or search or parallel texts [:(]
Speaking of the latter, the Surface RT's extra-wide screen would probably accommodate three parallel texts, which would be quite nice.
