OT Quotes in NT - New Note File

When I started my OT Quotes in NT project (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/28529.aspx) it was before Note files and Highlighting was the same thing. It started off as highlights and a separate note file attached to the verse so I could have the reference of the quote.

When Logos merged highlights and notes I redid the project as one file, it gave more granular control, especially when a verse contained multiple quotes. This was the Intertextuality document I shared with my Faithlife Group: OT Quotes in NT.

I'm glad I didn't delete the original note. Some people have expressed a desire to have this information show up in other commentaries/Bibles as my highlighting was done on the NA27. So, I spent some time colorizing and tweaking my old note file. It's called Intertextuality: Verses.

If you'd like a copy...

  1. Join OT Quotes in NT
  2. Go to documents.logos.com
  3. Click on your Name in the upper left hand corner of the page and select the quotes group.
  4. Hover your cursor over Intertexutality: Verses and then click the Connect button

I hope everyone finds this new/old note file helpful. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks for all your hard work on this Kevin. I've not had time to do much with it yet other than scan it over, but what I've seen is great.

Kevin, in what way would you work be different from the resources that already exist on the topic? There are two resources that do exactly that, one that goes by OT books and lists NT parallels. The other goes by NT books and lists OT parallels.

Is what you've done taking a different approach?

I'm not doing any original work here, mostly I'm drawing from others who have identified quotes and allusions, reformatting to make it useful in Logos.

My Intertextuality note file underlines (and color codes according to Pentateuch/Wisdom/History/Prophets) so you can have attention drawn to the quote.

The Intertexuality: Verse file is basically setting up a note files to serve as a targeted cross reference utility. Often cross references are thematic or theological. Instead it is more narrowly focused.

It's not that there aren't lists elsewhere, but I like to have this information readily available.

Here's an example of what can be done by the Intertextuality note file, since you can search for words within particular highlights. I know that Romans 3:4 is the only time a quotation of the wisdom books uses the word Logos.

Or quotes from the prophets use "son" 9x

Kevin!  *smile*     Peace and Every Blessing!    This is incredibly wonderful.  You've done 90% plus of my work for me, and I am "freed" for other and deeper Biblical Studies!  It will be very difficult for me not to utter little prayers of thanks for you and asking God's Blessings on you and your  loved ones as time goes by and I encounter your studies enriching my Logos Installation.  Thank you!  Indeed!
