Is there a Reading Plan Sync issue?

I have Logos 5 running on my Windows 7 PC, and the app running on my iPhone 4S and iPad 2.  All are running the most up-to-date versions of the OS and Logos apps (IOS 3.2.4.2051, PC 5.0.2.0743). I am on the stable update channel. I have four Reading Plans set up, two on the 2011 NIV (Old Testament and Psalms), one on NA28, and one on Erickson's Christian Theology.  I only set them up a week or so ago, having managed my reading using spreadsheets for the past year.  The Plans are syncing between the devices, but when I mark readings as completed they are not syncing at all.  I know there have been delays on syncing at times in the past, but updates from 3-4 days ago are not syncing.

While trying to debug this, I did just set up a new RP on my PC and mark a couple of the readings as completed.  Whilst the new plan synced to the iPad and iPhone immediately, the updates to the plan do not. I have tried all the usual options: rebooting each device, etc.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

I don't think you should have to do this anymore, but just to check… Have you tried killing the mobile app and reopening it? Have you pressed the sync wheel in L5?

Hi Alabama - yes, I've done both those things, and restarted the iPad and iPhone. That's why it is rather strange.

Interestingly, I just checked and the plans have now synced up to date. I suspect something was wrong and has now been fixed, as they hadn't updated for a couple of days, but everything is now fine and I can get back to following the plans! Thanks for replying though - it is alway good to know there is help available out there.

Just wondering if anybody else is having a similar issue. I just created a new plan today - I go four months at a time in the New Testament so I started a new one today. I cannot get it to sync from Logos Mac to my iPad.

Hi David - Welcome to the forums. [:)]

I cannot get it to sync from Logos Mac to my iPad.

I'm not having that problem. What versions of the desktop & mobile apps are you running? Have you checked to see if other things are syncing? Can you see the reading plan document under "documents" in the mobile app?

I'm having this same problem. I'm reading the M'Cheyne plan and it will not sync between the latest version of Logos 5 on my iMac and the latest version of Logos on my iPad.

Kent – Can you verify which versions of both apps you are running? Also, how long has the sync issue been going on?

I'm using the latest version of Logos 4 on the Mac and the latest version of Logos for the iPad. I went ahead and checked off the reading for the new plan on my desktop yesterday. I then looked under documents in the iPad and it showed it, with the day checked off. I have another plan for the Old Testament that spans the whole year. I checked it off on my iPad. Now a day later, neither plan is showing in my "Daily Readings" on the iPad as in the past.

Is the issue only that the plans aren't showing up in the daily readings section of the home page? If they are showing up in your documents folder, and checked "read" as expected, then syncing is indeed occurring. If the issue is only that the plans are missing from the homepage, that could be a simple matter of adding the plans back to the homepage. If that is the problem, have you tried clicking on the "plus" icon?

I'm using the latest version of Logos 4 on the Mac and the latest version of Logos for the iPad.

I need more than that. I have had users tell me they were using "the latest version" and found out they were more than a year out of date! If you are still having troubles, I need you to please check for me.

Are you using an older version of OSX? Is there a reason you haven't updated to the free L5 engine?

    Mac - 4.6b SR-3 (4.62.0.2683)

    iPad - 3.2.4 (3.2.4.2051)

I had some old plans that I deleted yesterday and had to recreate my OT once-a-year plan. It is now showing on my iPad. With your instruction, I was able to add the NT plan as well. The new OT showed up automatically, but the other didn't, for whatever reason.

Concerning L5... I will have to look into it. Back when all the promotions were going, the only option I saw was that I would have to pay to upgrade. Quite frankly, my iPad is my computer. I do almost everything with it. One of my main uses of the desktop Logos has just been to create my custom reading plans.

As new features are added to the mobile app, there is a strong likelihood that you will need to use L5 to access some of those features on mobile. I am hoping, for example, that more customization will come to reading plans. You would probably need L5.

Back when all the promotions were going, the only option I saw was that I would have to pay to upgrade.

Since Logos gives the software away for free, they stay in business by selling resources and base packages. In order to thank loyal customers (and help sell base packages), they offered purchasers of new base packages a "first crack" at the new software. It has since been made available to everyone.

How long has it been going on? Can you elaborate a little? On which device do you normally do your readings? Have you compared the reading plan documents on both devices? Can you provide screen shots?

Its been happening for over a week. I read on both devices equally. If I read my daily reading on my iMac one day and go to read on my iPad the next it shows the day before not read on my iPad. I've shut down the App on my iPad, etc. to no avail. I'll have to get screen shots tomorrow as I'm not currently at the office.

Strange indeed, Kent. Does Biblia.com reflect the iPad or your desktop? Have you tried creating a new plan and see if it syncs? Thanks for the screen shots by the way. From them I can eliminate a couple of possibilities.

It sounds like you have already done these things, but just to double check:

    1. Have you tried killing the app via the multi-task bar? (is that what you meant by "closing the app"?)
    2. Have you checked your desktop settings and verified that "use internet" is turned on?

Biblia.com reflects my iPad. It is synced an up to date. I have tried suggestion 1 and it did not fix it. #2 is set correctly.

Under Documents, can you filter by "type" and look under "reading plans." Is there only one copy of the reading plan? If so, can you create a new reading plan and see if it syncs? Also, can you open a random book which you haven't used in a while (or ever) and see if the location info syncs to the iPad?

By the way, this info leads me to believe the issue isn't related to the mobile app.

i opened documents and only have one reading plan. However, here's an interesting find. I just Opened my iMac Logos at home that I rarely use and here's the screenshot of my reading plan...

same version as my work iMac Logos 5. It seems the desktops aren't syncing.

Just curious, how many resources or what level of base package are you suggesting one has to have purchased in order to be a "loyal" customer? What about the person who has purchased as much as he can afford on a limited pastor's salary and has to work at second and more jobs in order to bring home 2/3rd to 3/4ths of his yearly income ... but who uses the software on a daily basis ... a person who, while believing in the superiority of digital and of Logos, must justify this expense to his spouse when, despite the advantages of electronic searching, can purchase hard copy resources (used) at a small fraction of the cost of this software, especially when she, a preacher and teacher herself, prefers hard copies and according to the licensing terms could not use his purchases on her own computer?

The need to sell products to stay in business is obvious and justified. To a degree, the expense of resources is justified, especially considering many publishing companies are reluctant to embrace a digital world where the profit margins may be much less than what they are used to.

What is difficult to justify is the level of snobbery evident in the quoted response. But maybe that is just the perspective of a customer who is not considered to be loyal...

There is definitely a problem somewhere.  I've got four reading plans set up, Old Testament and Psalms on NIV2011, New Testament on NA28, and a plan on Erickson's Christian Theology.  I am running Windows 7 with Logos 5.0.2.0752, IOS on my iPad and iPhone both on the most up-to-date IOS version, with Logos 3.2.4.2051.  When I update RPs on my iPad, they update successfully on my Windows laptop and Biblia.com, but not on my iPhone.  In fact, the plans on my iPhone are now several weeks behind.  I have tried restarting the iPhone, restarting the Logos app on it, and likewise on my iPad, to no avail.  If I set up a new RP, the new RP syncs to the iPhone, but readings do not update to it.

All the other usual factors are stable (same account on all devices, everything updated with latest apps & operating system, everything rebooted) so I am pretty sure there is a problem somewhere at the Logos end. It doesn't really worry me as I do my reading primarily on my iPad, but more worrying is the fact that if I mark a reading completed on my WIndows laptop, it doesn't update on the iPad, Biblia, or the iPhone (at least not within an hour when I tried it earlier).

David – Dont know what set you off. I didn't mean to imply YOU weren't loyal, nor anyone else for that matter. Nevertheless, longterm Logos users who did upgrade were demonstrating their loyalty when they upgraded. I was only able to upgrade at the time because of gifts I had received near my birthday. Otherwise, I would have been in your shoes.

My username is one I use in other places online, and comes from my being a fan of Alabama football. It is fair to say that the 100,000 fans who show up at the stadium are demonstrating their loyalty. I am no less of a fan because I don't attend, nor am I less "loyal." I would not be offended by someone saying "the crimson tide faithful have shown up in droves to show their loyalty."

You aren't "disloyal" for having not been in a position to upgrade, and I am very sure Logos is thankful for your loyalty. [:)]

Kent - that is very strange. You may need to contact Logos... But I really do think you should try creating a new plan to see what happens. If Logos doesn't pop in here soon, you should call them or create a new thread in the L5 forum. You would likely need to post logs. See my signature line for help with that. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Greg - that is weirder still. I'll try to create a plan on my computer later and see what happens when I mark read there. I am running beta on both desktop & mobile, which could have an impact on my testing... But I am not aware of any known bugs related to this which were fixed in my beta builds.

    Greg,

I can't reproduce this issue at all, using either stable or beta builds.  Reading plans sync for me across biblia.com, faithlife.com, Logos Desktop (both Windows and OS X), iOS and Android devices.  On your iPhone, in the Logos settings there's an option under Help to Send Support Info.  Please send this to kevin dot byford at logos dot com and we'll take a look.

There is definitely something broke. I have the latest builds of Logos 5 and Logos on iOS. My reading plan quit synchronizing after I had not used it for a bit and decided to adjust it to catch it up. After I did that, it would not sync. After a number of attempts to get it to sync, I deleted it and started a completely new and different reading program. The new reading plan synced for a week and then stopped again. I started a completely different and additional reading plan and it stopped syncing as well.

Interesting thing is that I looked on the faithlife app today and both plans loaded properly. When I marked today's reading as done, the faithlife app synced properly. I checked biblia.com and the plan is running fine there too. Yet the Logos app continues to be stuck from some days ago.

So I am coming to the conclusion something is not quite right with the iOS app. I'll keep an eye on how biblia and faithlife handle the updates in the days to come, and report anything different than what I am already seeing.

Please do. I use the mobile apps daily and haven't experienced any problems, so if there is a "bug" it is probably more specific to some users rather than one that applies to everyone.

Faithlife and Biblia synced fine today, but the Logos app is still stuck from a number of days back. I'll see if the Faithlife app continues to sync up properly, but it appears that it is at least in my case, something specifically broken on the Logos app.
