BUG: Loose connection between highlighting entered and highlighting displayed

1. when the merism "the heavens and the earth" overlapped the anadiplosis "earth, the earth", Logos decided I would be unable to match the end of figure lines so it dropped the middle pair.

2. when I added the note that Bullinger refers to a figure of speech that does not exist (hence, I could not select the text) I added a note on the verse number 2. Logos decided to provide me with an extra set of end of figure lines around the note icon. It also decided to repeat the text above making it appear as though the figure of speech appears twice.

This results in:

  • Logos having removed two end of figure markers where they belong
  • Logos having added two end of figure markers where they do not belong
  • Logos having added an additional occurrence of the name of a figure of speech making it appears as if it appears twice in succession.

One positive point: at least the title it duplicated related to duplication so there is a certain irony. Shall I see if I can get Logos to automatically delete the ellipse tag so I could enjoy the cleverness of the bug?

I am able to reproduce this behavior and will report it to Development.

Development has decided that this behavior is by design. Two adjacent runs of the same formatting get merged into the same formatting run. This is necessary for correct display of other kinds of highlights. For instance, the "natural" styles like Emphasis Markup > Pencil Underline or the Highlighter Pens styles have specific textures that need to be applied continuously to look right.

Given: "Some example text," if you highlight "Some example," and then decide to include "text," so you highlight "example text," the formatting is merged to turn the pencil underline into one continuous line.

If you need overlapping/nested borders a workaround would be to edit the style to use a slightly different border style. For example:

The case for issue 2 (extra end figures around note icons) is still open.

Sometimes I don't know whether to laugh, cry, shake my head at .... Logos logic. The assumption that I can determine in advance all possible overlaps is <ludicrous?>. It feels as it I am to keep my use of highlights at a fourth grade level. I believe I passed that landmark 1/2 century + 1/2 decade ago. Admittedly, I feel the same way about notes.[:(] But you're still my favorite Bible software.[:)]
