Peace to you this Beautiful Morning! *smile*
I updated my Logos 5 this morning to 5.0b Service Release 4 (5.0.2.0755) successfully.
However, for some strange reason I had to start my Logos offline. Which I did ... successfully.
Now, however (and I'm somewhat embarrassed as a long-term Logos Bible Software User! *smile* ) ..... I don't know how to get back "online"!
My "sync" is not spinning, and I get this message when I try to update .... (I know there are no updates for me, but I'd like to reset my Logos 5, please!) I do not want to work offline .... please! *smile*

I don't know how to get back "online"!
Restart the program. If it won't go online automatically, then there is some issue that needs to be addressed.
Milford Charles Murray | Forum Activity | Replied: Today 5:56 AM
Thank you, Good Brother! Have already restarted about 1/2 dozen times .......
will do two more ................
just did two more .............
still offline ..........
am going to shut down my computer and restart and will be back to this thread in 10 minutes ..... perhaps to see if I should start a new thread ...
perhaps to share that everything is now A.O.K. We'll see .... *smile*

Should I start a new thread? Just restarted my computer ............. I'm still "offline" and am clueless?!?
Think I'll go and have my second cup of coffee and then come back to see if anyone has any good ideas ....
Blessings for the day, eh???!!!

Milford,
Have you got a log we can look at? I saw another post this morning that indicated there might be server side issues.
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Coffee is always a good idea. Unfortunately, I don't know if I have any good ideas for you.
Some clarification would be good: When you restart the app, is the sign in box appearing? If not, try getting the sign in box to appear (press and hold control immediately upon startup).
Peace, Justin! Have just started a new thread and will take all of this over there right away.
I CAN get the sign-in box, but it always takes me to an offline situation. There's no provision in the sign-in box for online usage....

Hmm, strange. I had the same thing happen to me on my last update on the beta channel. After updating, Logos started up with the sign-in dialog and I was unable to sign in, though it did start fine offline. Closed app and reopened. Same thing.
After that, I rebooted Windows, and then everything worked fine. Wonder if this is an installer issue? Can you try a shutdown of Windows (not restart). After shutdown, then start it back up and see if you can login.

Peace, Randy! Thanks for your post! I've already shut down windows ............ However, it wouldn't hurt to do it again ... which I will !

...the I did a "repair" of the Logos 5 prerequisites, figuring that it couldn't hurt ....
am STILL offline
Now I'm going to reboot my computer one more time ...
perhaps I should move over to the windows beta??? my concern is if I change anything, make a note or whatever ... my changes are NOT being backed up to the cloud ....
I have NO sync signal at all ......

Clicking the "Sign In" button in the sign in dialog will start you working online.
Don't click the "Work Offline" button or you'll be "stuck" offline.

Please hold down Ctrl when starting the application, so that the Sign In dialog appears. When it does, check that your email address is correct, enter your password if necessary, and click the Sign In button.
If that still doesn't work, please upload another log file.

In a situation like this, do you want Milford to do anything other than sign in? I assume he should exit the app before grabbing the logs?

No, I really just want to see the logs from the Sign In process. And if there is a LogosError.log file, that would be very helpful to see, too.

The Mac utility tool that was developed to enable logging and package log files is very helpful… Is there a reason there isn't one for PC? (Yes, I can look out for PC users too. [:)])

The error in your log is:
System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions 216.57.195.46:443
This is preventing Logos 5 from signing in.
Unfortunately, this isn't an error I've ever seen before. Based on my research, it seems most likely to be caused by a personal firewall or a web proxy.
Do you have a firewall/AV program running? If you disable it, are you able to sign into Logos 5?
Are you on a network that uses a proxy to access the Internet? If so, check your proxy settings in the Logos 5 Sign In dialog, and talk to your network administrator about whether there have been recent configuration changes that would block access to logos.com.

Hi Bradley! *smile* I'm just a simple retired old pastor and do NOT do any super high-tech stuff...
The only firewall I have is Norton 360 ... I'm not on a network .............. I wouldn't have a clue HOW to use a proxy...
*smile*
I WILL try to turn off Norton 360, and start Logos 5 that way ...
will tell you what happened soonest .....

Peace, Bradley! My mind is blown! *smile*
1. After my last post, I opened Norton 360 -- there was a big warning that my firewall had been turned off .... click here to fix it ....
2. So .... I clicked to turn on firewall ........... This has never, ever happened before .... Very weird and strange, eh???
My firewall WAS disabled!!! I re-enabled it; and now success!
3. So ... Decided to try Logos 5 before I fooled around with Norton 360 ....
4. Logos 5 started perfectly --- online! Yes!!!! spent a little time synchronising ....
Am now back to normal.
5. Thanks Bradley for your part in getting me going again! Am very pleased....
I guess you might not be able to tell me -- or not! -- if I did something "unwise" to get into this situation in the first place ... .. ?????

Given the nature of the issue, I'm fairly certain that staring Logos offline was a mere "coincidence" to the Norton 360 problem.Milford Charles Murray said:I guess you might not be able to tell me -- or not! -- if I did something "unwise" to get into this situation in the first place ... .. ?????
From time to time I've seen different security suites throw odd errors. I wouldn't be overly concerned unless it happens again.

Thanks, Thomas! Certainly there are a few imponderables floating around here.... Is there a connection -- at all between my problem and my Norton 360 ??? If this ever comes up again for someone else, at least we'll have a few ideas ...
Am so happy to have my fully-functioning Logos 5 back, that I'm not unduly concerned...
I am grateful to Bradley -- and to you -- and to Justin for your helps and your attempts at helps! Psalms 29:11

BTW .... I just remembered ......... I enabled "logging" ............ I guess logging is still enabled ........... Does that matter ???
Can I just leave it alone ........... ?? OR??? should I figure out how to disable logging and then do it?? *smile*

It seems very strange for a firewall to just "turn itself off". I'm not trying to be alarmist, but it would probably be worthwhile to make sure your virus definitions are up-to-date, that your virus scanner also hasn't been turned off, then run a full system scan to make sure no malicious software is running in the background.

I leave logging running all the time. It causes no discernible slow-down, and the logs are ready if I ever need them.Milford Charles Murray said:BTW .... I just remembered ......... I enabled "logging" ............ I guess logging is still enabled ........... Does that matter ???

Peace, Bradley! I can't even imagine how busy you are in your position at Logos! Tremendously so, I'm sure!
So Thank You Very Much Indeed for your personal help yesterday. It is so very much appreciated. A strange case indeed, and I've just completely reviewed and checked out my firewall and antivirus settings. Basically I'm happy with Norton 360, and I regard yesterday's incident as a "quirk"!
I DO love my Logos Bible Software, Bradley! *smile*

Fascinating. Thanks for the suggestion. I have Norton. I opened it. No messages, everything normal. Closed it. Clicked Sign in on the Logos sign in screen, and it took off. Strange.

So does that mean if Logos' has a major outage and their servers go down we can't access our resources that are already downloaded on our computer unless we log in? It seems there should be a work around. I'm sure Logos' has a disaster back up plan, but you never know what can happen and I would hate to not be able to read the material I purchased.

Bradley and/or others at Logos need to make a note of this, methinks! *smile*
