BUG 5.1 RC2: No Full view in new PL

1) Copy the list of passages from http://community.logos.com/forums/p/71568/498801.aspx#498801.

2) Open a new PL and Add From Clipboard.

>> The list shows as Compact even when it should be Full:

3) Add another Bible version (not your highest prioritized one).

>> That version shows up Full, but the Prioritized version still doesn't show.

Logos used to assume you wanted your highest prioritized Bible used. Entering that Bible in Add Versions used to result in two columns with the same Bible in both. Now it seems you have to enter it to get even one column.

Also:

  • The Add Versions dropdown has become very hard to dismiss, and did occasionally show up without me doing anything to cause it to.
  • Add Versions isn't even mentioned in Help.
  • I tried Add URL with the URL above, and got nothing at all.

    Hi fgh

I think some of this may be Mac-specific  unless the behavior has changed between RC1 and RC2 (which I am running) or it is dependent on which is your highest prioritised Bible. Mine is NRSV, which do you have?

It appears as full on my system (I am running on Windows 8)

When I create the PL it is auto-populated with my highest prioritised Bible. Adding this in again in "Add Versions" results in the second one being removed - i.e. I still just get the single column with that Bible. Adding a different Bible results in dual columns.

    I don't see this

    Agreed[:)]

I see the same - it shows as having imported zero references.

    Thanks for testing.

I think some of this may be Mac-specific

Looks that way, apart from the Help and URL issues.

They fixed a Mac bug in PL's in beta 7: MULTIPLE BUGS when trying to copy Passage List on Mac. Perhaps they broke something else in the process. Or perhaps I haven't created any new PL's in a very long time.

unless the behavior has changed between RC1 and RC2

Oops. I've typed 'RC1' so may times that I did it automatically. I'll edit the heading once I've finished this. That said, I did see the first part in RC1. I downloaded RC2 to see if it remained, so I know it hasn't changed between them.

When I create the PL it is auto-populated with my highest prioritised Bible. Adding this in again in "Add Versions" results in the second one being removed - i.e. I still just get the single column with that Bible.

If I find the energy and time, I'll see if I can locate the thread where someone couldn't understand why he got two (I think it was) NRSV's.

I've gone back as far as I can and this is always how the Passage List 'Add Versions' has worked, as far as I can tell.  When you have no resource selected it does not show the verse text. There's no screenshot from Graham, but yours, fgh, shows that you don't have a resource selected.

Are you sure you're not confusing it with the 'Add Versions' hyperlink in the Bible Search panel and its behavior (which does work as you've described)?

The URL add box has to be able to parse the verses from the webpage's source.  I don't know that forum URLs have ever worked in that location.

We are aware that the Help files are not as useful as they could be in many locations, and we are working to add new content especially as soon as possible.  I'd like to do an overhaul of the files in general to rewrite them to make them more useful, but I couldn't say when we would be able to complete a project like that.

In Windows the preferred bible is automatically listed with a new PL, and the added passages appear in Full view.

This is the case on Mac as well, though there is a bug which I didn't see previously in that the 'Add Versions' hyperlink still displays initially even though the preferred Bible is, in fact, selected.  I'll report that issue.

That seems to be true today, since I now get a Full list if I try to reproduce. It can't have been true when I started the thread, or I would have gotten the Full list then as well. My guess would be that it 'accidentally' got fixed when 5.1RC2 Bug: Can't add related verses from the Topic Guide to a Passage List was fixed. That's the kind of 'accident' I like.[:D]

The dropdown also seems to behave much better today.

    I'll report that issue.

    Thanks.

It can't parse your own forums? [:O]

As for the Help file, I don't normally use it, so that doesn't bother me particularly. I just reported it because I happened to see it (or rather not see it) in the process of investigating the bug. The only things in Help I really care about are the lists of shortcuts and commands. Those I would love to see checked and improved.

But of course it should be better. Would save newbies some time and frustration, and us on the forums some questions.

This issue is no longer reproducible in 5.2.  Please let us know if you see this issue again once you have updated to that version.
