BUG: Logos iOS app - Mobile Favorite icon broken in vertical split screen
I emailed Logos Support with this 66 days ago, and despite promises that it would be fixed in the Logos iOS 3.3.1 update, the bug still existed in 3.3.1, 3.3.2, etc., and still in 3.4.0. Perhaps someone monitoring the forums can succeed in getting this fixed.
In the iOS app, the Mobile Favorite icon (the little star) is broken (doesn't respond to touches) on the left split window when in vertical split screen mode (holding the iPad landscape mode). This only stopped working after the 3.3.0 update on 2013-05-22. Version 3.2.4 works fine.
Here are steps I used to reproduce on two different iPad 3's and one iPad 2:
- Load NKJV
- At the bottom, drag the gray semi-circle to middle of screen to split screen, and set other view to Thailand Bible Society bible. (Touch and hold gray semi-circle to turn on "Sync panels".)
- Add a favorite (e.g. tap a scripture, tap the Share icon, tap the "Add to Favorites" button).
- Try to view favorites by clicking the Favorites (star) icon in the left split window … nothing happens.
Important notes:
- This only seems to be broken in split screen mode.
- The bug DOESN'T happen on the first run of 3.4.0. After I loaded 3.4.0, the bug didn't appear until the second time the app was run. (In other words, if a developer is using XCode iOS simulator, they may not be able to reproduce the problem unless they can close and restart the app without closing the simulation.)
To put the effect of this bug in perspective: I use the split screen to display bilingual English/Thai Bible verses when preaching/teaching in Thailand. I use the Favorites to quickly jump through all references in my sermons. Not being able to use the Favorites icon was such a disruption to the flow of the services that I have been forced to revert to Logos iOS 3.2.4 until this bug is fixed. It has been over two months since I first reported the problem, so some timely help would be appreciated. (And if it matters, I have been a Logos user since the old Windows 16-bit v1.6, then Libronix v3, Logos v4, and now Logos v5.) I realize this bug probably affects very few users, but geesh guys ... over two months? Really?!?

Hi Ed
I've just tried reproducing this but using the NIV as opposed to the Thailand Bible Society Bible (which I don't have).
Using the NKJV and NIV I can't reproduce the problem as you describe it
Do you only get this problem when using the Thailand Bible or with all Bibles?

I am able to reproduce the problem with all Bibles. However, the problem is only present when the split is in the default-middle location (the position where it sometimes auto-resets).

I discovered you can split the screen directly in the middle by double-tapping the gray semi-circle when it's in the bottom right corner.

Thanks Ed

I have been able to reproduce it - the thing I had missed before was having to restart the app.
So I put the app into split-screen mode, killed the app and restarted it.
Then, as you say, I can add a favourite but the option to select favourites is greyed out.
This seems to be the case even if the split is not central.
Hopefully someone from Logos will pick up on this - I'll try and get some attention to it

Well, I'm at least glad someone else has been able to reproduce the problem. [:)]

Also, you may already be aware of this, but I just discovered that the Vyrso 3.4.0 app seems to share this bug, as well.

I expect this issue to be present in all Logos iOS apps because the code base is shared. When it's fixed in one, it will be fixed in all of them.

I had not experienced this bug until today. Yesterday I was using Logos on my PC and on my MBP. When I opened Logos on my iPad this morning, I can no longer use the Favorites button while in split screen Landscape orientation. I think it has something to do with syncing between PC/ Mac and iPad. I can got to Portrait mode, bring up Favorites, and then return to Landscape mode. A work-around, but annoying.

This isn't a sync issue, which is proven by the fact that you can fix the issue by switching to portrait mode! I <think> it is a simple UI bug. The issue isn't present for me in the current beta, but I am unsure when it might ship. Releases have been unusually slow of late. My guess is that they are working on getting ready for iOS 7.

Just noticed - if I move the splitter just one click left or right, away from the default middle position, the Favorites button is re activated!

It's been so long since Logos released an update that I feel compelled to follow up on this again. Any idea when the next update is going to be released? (Hopefully, the answer won't be as vague as iOS 7: "coming this fall." [:)] )

Logos answers are typically MORE vague than that, not less.
I have absolutely no inside information about their release schedule. The only thing I can tell you is that the beta cycle has dropped off. I am used to receiving betas fairly frequently (i.e. once a week), but have not received one for over a month. I'm not sure what is going on, but I know that the team is always very busy. I am sure that with the iOS7 release, there has been special attention given to compatibility. Since there aren't many Logos users actually running iOS7, the normal beta testers can't be of much assistance.
As for this particular issue: The bug that is bugging you is always the most important one [:S] … but there appears to be work arounds for this issue. It wouldn't surprise me if this issue has been fixed already internally… it also wouldn't surprise me if it was lower on the list of things to fix (especially with iOS7 issues to deal with).

Kevin, the Favorite star icon issue was still NOT fixed in 3.4.1. [SIGH]

This is correct; I was unaware at that time that we would be releasing 3.4.1 as a hotfix that only contained iOS7 related issues. We purposely didn't want to change anything else. You'll be glad to know that the favorites bug has already been fixed in the 3.5.0 beta series.

... You'll be glad ...
Today's 3.5 release did indeed fix the bug introduced in 3.3. Six months and five releases after I reported it, and three releases after I was first told by a Logos employee that it would be "fixed in the next release" ... I guess I'm supposed to be glad. [|-)]
