Overview

This collection provides readers and researchers the first 8 editions of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Manual, which present the historical teachings and practices of the denomination and allow you to trace its theological and ecclesiastical development. The rationale for this important set of documents was given in 1875 by SDA pioneer Ellen G. White, who said: “The church of Christ is in constant peril. Satan is seeking to destroy the people of God, and one man’s mind, one man’s judgment, is not sufficient to be trusted. Christ would have his followers brought together in church capacity, observing order, having rules and discipline, and all subject one to another, esteeming others better than themselves.” It was out of these convictions that the SDA Church Manual was born. After much denominational deliberation, the 1931 General Conference Committee decided to produce the first official church manual which came to fruition in the 1932 first edition.

These volumes present the doctrine and polity of the SDA denomination as it developed in the mid twentieth century. Examine the various editions of this historically significant document to discover substantial additions occasioned by the denomination’s changing context, such as the chapters on the church and Christian living in the 1951 edition, and the North American supplement in the 1963 edition.

In the Logos editions, these valuable volumes are enhanced by amazing functionality. Scripture citations link directly to English translations, and important terms link to dictionaries, encyclopedias, and a wealth of other resources in your digital library.
