Resource Update on or after Sept. 30, 2013

Hi folks.

After our resource update last week (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/75548.aspx), we discovered a problem in some reverse interlinear resources. Essentially, there are some contexts where spaces will not appear between some words in the Greek (e.g. in Exegetical Guide).

This problem means we need to update some reverse interlinears (eight of them). We hope to do this on Monday, but it might be Tuesday.

I believe this will be one update, but I was wrong about that before. I should have the definitive word on that tomorrow (Monday) after talking to folks to understand the exact situation.

I understand this is not optimal after the last resource update, but it needs to be done. Thanks for your patience as we work this out.

Thanks for your tips, and in my opioni, we need a stable version for study, we are not beta user, I suggestion, will logos update some database and resources, please tell us those resources version; so then keep part of stable version for study. time and life more less.

Personally it makes me smile when I have an update.

The cheap route is to put the resource out there, and never make another change. But Logos chooses the path I prefer - that is to continue to improve the quality of resources even though we have already paid for them.

I appreciate the updates, but I must say I like the way it was with Libronix, where you could see what was updating and pick & choose what you wanted if you needed to. I miss that bit of flexibility.

In consultation with those involved in pushing out the update, it appears that yes, it will be one update. And we are planning on it going out on Monday, probably late afternoon.

I appreciate the updates, but I must say I like the way it was with Libronix, where you could see what was updating and pick & choose what you wanted if you needed to. I miss that bit of flexibility.

Its been a few years now, but people continue to ask for the ability to pick what and when content downloads. Why does Logos not permit this?

It's been explained previously that there are too many dependencies for this to be feasible. For example, a new version of Logos might require a new version of a particular database. Or the new database might not work with the older software. Or a new reverse interlinear might require a certain version of the Bible senses database. Or an updated resource might require a new datatype which comes only with a certain version of the software. Or… well you get the idea.

You may not be able to pick WHAT is downloaded, but you can pick the timing if you adjust the settings on the Program Settings page (Tools | Program Settings).

"Too many dependencies?" Now, Mark. Clearly the software can tell when something's not fitting right. I'd assume the 'rules' came from Logos. Ipso facto, the downloader would know 'optional' vs 'required'. Very much like MS and ..... Libronix.

My guess is that it's easier for Logos, reduces phone calls, etc. I've been using the iPhone version now a few days and have learned to kill Logos whenever I'm on WIFI since (again), they made it easy for Logos, not me.

So it goes. Today is A-Company day.

For people overseas or in places where dialup is still necessitated (do such places still exist in the US?) I could see the ability to pick your updates as a benefit. However With the invention of broadband, even my slow sub standard DSL connection (.5mbps) I just don't see a problem with not having that level of granularity.

For instance this past updates glitch was one of spacing. Many people wouldn't notice; their focus on other things. For those of us who do notice such things its an annoyance but not generally critical.

Clarification: cellular generally has gigabyte limits, almost always for hotspots. So, wild downloads from Logos are a no-go. And turning off the internet means no more $$$ for Logos (purchases).

I use cellular as well. My church is in one state, and my school another.

My relatively modern phone uses the 4g lte network and is actually faster than my "broadband" at home.

Should point out that while on campus, I use my phone as a mobile hotspot.

I'm not sure I understand your point. Either that, or you haven't understood mine [;)].

My point was that if you said "I'd like the program update, but not any resource updates, Logos might have to say 'But your old RIs won't work with the new version'. So you'll then say, 'OK, I'll take the RIs as well, but not anything else'. To which Logos would have to say, 'But the new syntax databases depend on the new RIs'. In which case having the choice doesn't actually help you very much - except Logos has to build a great big dependency tree, and all it needs is for one person in Logos to make one mistake and hundreds of thousands of users download updates that aren't fully compatible with the rest of their software.

Nothing will download for the past 2 days… I had to manually download the latest release and still putting update now doesn't do anything but sticks on Checking for updates….. I thought maybe Logos servers were overloaded and left it trying to check all night and still nothing. just continuous checking.

That worked when I called into tech support I got no useful information… Install a fresh copy, I had already, and was told to do "Update Resources" and told it could take over 15 minutes to check…. (I had told her I never before had it take longer than 3 minutes in the past. It had been 25 minute point when i read your post and decided to restart.
