How do you record sermons at your church?

Hello all!

One struggle we had at my church in Nashville was recording the sermon on a consistent basis. We tried all kinds of methods, but ultimately it came down to whoever was in the sound booth (including me!) just forgetting to hit record.

I'm curious - how do you guys record the sermon each week?

Is it a line in to a computer, or do you have specialized equipment?
If it's recorded on a computer, what software are you using?
Do you record the worship set as well, or just the sermon?
What do you do with the audio after recording it?

We currently record using a CD recorder. We are adding computer based recording using Audacity. We will probably continue to do the CD for backup and archival purposes.

The audio gets placed on the Church website (currently by ripping the CD to mp3). The audio is also edited into a weekly radio program and sent to a radio station.

We only record the sermon.

We've never really had any problems remembering to start the recording. It's a significant part of the duties of whoever is running sound, and it is emphasized when we train new volunteers.

We use a USB mixer linked to a laptop, which is running Audacity. We used to also record onto CD concurrently, in case there was a problem with the laptop. We only record the sermon. After that it's uploaded to our website, and made available on request on CD.

We use a Line6 m20d which records directly to an SD card. It's nifty, but still requires someone to remember to press record. We get it most of the time, but do occasionally forget.

I feel so inadequate.

I sit the iPhone on the lectern and use Dropvox.

Works well though.
