I know this used to be an issue when the feature first rolled out, but now am wondering, are Personal Books backed up and Synced with other installations?
Your help is appreciated.
Not that I've heard of.
The metadata associated with the books are synced between Logos installations but the books themselves are not.
there is currently no support for personal books on mobile platforms
Okay, thanks for the information.
Merry Christmas.
Its been quite some time since complaints have arisen regarding their lack of follow through on this promise,
Really? Logos has broken no promises. No timetables have ever been given, so promises can not have been broken. Bradley said his team is working on it. Are you calling him a liar? Furthermore, this endeavor will be very expensive for the company. I eagerly look forward to this projects completion... But no promises have been broken.
I don't know why you have chosen a personal attack on another forum member, but ask that you delete or modify your last post.
Given that the "Dev lead of Faithlife.com, Biblia.com, and Mobile Services at Logos Bible Software" made a Personal book file request last week, my guess would be that it's getting closer.[:)]

You are right no date was given for Personal Books on mobile devices. There were dates given early on for the Personal Book feature itself, and none of them were met, not even close to being met. So Logos wisely stopped giving expected dates for features.
I am glad they are working on it, and believe them. But it clearly has not been a priority with Logos to get this done. And a promise this long delayed may not be a promise broken, but it is a first cousin to it. It is disappointing at the least.
I am a very pro-Logos person. I love Logos. But on this issue, I am not inclined to cut them much slack. Most disappointing.
In fact, I have given up on Personal Books on mobile devices. Instead, I bought a Windows 8 tablet to be my mobile device, and my nonmobile device, too. So I now have personal books everywhere.
In my mind personal books have a sign over them saying "warning". What I mean by this is that, since Logos does not back them up, I am very careful when I create them to also make backups both locally and in another location. If there is ever a problem with my computer I want to be confident that I can easily restore all the work I have done. Reading the horror stories of people on the forums who have not backed up there books consistently and had a computer issue causing them to lose their work is a motivation for me to continue to be careful until Logos provides a better alternative. I hope it is in the not-too-distant future.

I suspect it's more a case of them realizing too late that they had to do a number of other things before they could finish this, and those other things then taking longer than expected. E g, although I don't understand the technical reasons for it, it seems they had to recode the entire syncing process, and that's taken them an awful long time. Well over a year, I believe.
And a promise this long delayed may not be a promise broken, but it is a first cousin to it. It is disappointing at the least.
Michael - You are my friend and I respect your opinion greatly, but you are wrong on this one. Disappointing? Yes. "First cousin" to a broken promise? Nope.
I keep repeating over and over that this isn't a cheap or easy thing to do. They have said that they are working on it and I believe them. They have not said it is at the top of their priority list. And why would it be? This feature works against their profitability margins! In multiple ways!
I am eager for this feature, especially to be able to have access to resources unavailable in Logos... I hope it comes soon, but I'll try and learn patience in the meantime. Which I really need to work on too. (Especially when I bought something on sale yesterday, to find out my wife was thinking about getting it for me for Christmas). [:D]

Most of us need more patience. I know I do.

I have experienced the same thing in the past. [:$]

Well, I respect you opinion enough to withdraw my comment about "first cousin to a broken promise". You are right. That is too strong, and I stand corrected. (Of course, you know well that down here in the deep South we count kinfolks to 10th cousins twice removed! [;)] )
Obviously, things that are most profitable have to take higher priority for any company, and personal books are hardly a money maker for Logos. Still, I am disappointed that it has not been a higher priority.
I am as passionately for Logos as anyone, and I do not wish to become known as negative about Logos. I am not. It is a great product and great company. I appreciate the difference Logos has made in my study of God's Word, and especially the library Logos has made available to me. I constantly urge people to buy and use Logos, and many of my church members have done so over the last 20 years or so.
Thanks for the tip to that request.
Secondarily there was nothing personal, nor was there any "attack" intended. I am agreeing with other posts that have been made on other threads in the same vein. Consider this thread. Perhaps you are a tertiary "unix" account .Seems we have pushed a hot button for you, and for that (and that alone) I am sorry.
While your point that we do not know what was privately said to you is valid, the tone of the message was a bit strong. Even with your wink in there, this came across a bit bellicose. Perhaps you can use some of your own advice and use a bit more honey and less vinegar?
SDG
I must admit I was feeling rather bellicose when I read alabama's post. Also I redacted the vinegar line shortly after posting, indeed even before you replied as you will see in your quote.

You are on to me.

Thanks for the link. You might be right. If there is a problem, report it to Logos and let them deal with it.
Could you kindly direct me to the "Bradley said" thread?
I'll see if I can find it.
It was actually David Mitchell: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/66838/466886.aspx#466886
I would never give out that much information about our internal development workflow. [;)]
Thanks for the update, and I do remember that thread now Thank you Bradley!

hey I unfortunately am in this situation..,.do you know the best way to backup my personal book files.. because I have to do a clean wipe and install on my system and would hate to lose them.. ....
It depends upon what you mean by "backup."
In my mind, #3 is most serious. I use Dropbox to sync my .docx files. See this thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/37105.aspx?PageIndex=1
If you want to not worry about having to recompile, see this thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/42036/313207.aspx#313207

Me too. I locate my docx files in the dropbox folder on my computer and build them straight from there in the PBB. They're also automatically synced to the cloud. Seems to work well.
Alabama24,
I would like to implement this strategy for PC (Windows 7) in the Dropbox environment. How to?
Sorry, but I don't think I can be much help. [:S] I am a mac only user, and I prefer to compile resources on each machine.

I own Microsoft Office so I do have some free space there (Sky Drive!) for storage ...
I plan to get more serious about this and to "price" what increased storage would cost ...
May I ask, please, if drop box would be more or less "pricey" than Sky Drive? Have you researched it? Is each as reliable as the other? Are there other "cloud" storages that you might recommend ..
Actually I'm getting a little tired of backing up on external hard drives of which I have three ... *smile*
Milford - many f these services provide basic service for free, including Dropbox. Some utilize various promos to increase your service free as well. I currently have nearly 20 GB of free storage via Dropbox, which I have obtained over time.
Hi Milford,
I know you didn't ask me, but the Free version is 2GB. You may get another 100GB for basically $100 a yr. ($9.99/ mo). It gets high marks from PC magazine. And from what I see it is user friendly and very useful. It syncs to your other devices that have it on it and you can share and collaborate with others even if they don't have Dropbox downloaded on their device. Looks like a winner.
Wow, Justin! That's a lot of free storage! I'm going to have to investigate soonest! Thank you!

Yes,
Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.

I also use dropbox currently. By signing up through another member you (and I) will receive an extra 500mb of space. My signup linkI currently have about 9.9gb, and would love to hit 20gb. Once you reach 20gb I think you are at the max you can have free...But it still works really well and 20gb is not shabby. Its certainly more than I need for my PBB's
Edit: I DO indeed thank you for posting! I've learned something important from you! Now I can sign up my Pastor and some of my family and pick up a few "free" benefits ....
.... "wise as serpents and harmless as doves," eh???!!! *smile*
Milford,
Are you aware if you take the tour and compete the 7 or 8 steps you get an extra 250MB ?

Sorry, I've already just signed up and am using it already, along with my free SkyDrive! I truly regret that you won't benefit, being completely unaware that I could "boost" a brother or a sister, I moved into action. Peace and Joy to you Always! *smile* Edit: I DO indeed thank you for posting! I've learned something important from you!
