Vyrso Premium Pricing for What Advantage? What is your limit?

A title which recently featured in a Vyrso Voice interview with the author is apparently being offered by Vyrso at the great price of 11.99. Another ebook retailer is offering it for 3.99. Given the absence of tagging is the premium price being charged by Vyrso worth simply being able to include the book in my Logos searches? I don't see bible reference lookup as that great an advantage as this is often hit and miss with Vyrso books despite the marketing claims.

How much extra are you willing to pay for a Vyrso book before the price differential becomes a case of you will purchase the resource from somewhere else instead of Vyrso?

Oddly I'm ending up buying more and more Kindle where I don't need it in regular study. I'd say the price differential in those cases would be $10 (ie if the difference is only $9, I'd go Logos ... $30/Logos $20/Kindle > Kindle).

i agree Denise Logos books are a different story and the price differential there for me I would allow a lot more room than a Vyrso book - genre of Vyrso book I expect also plays a part to some extent I would think. I don't expect Vyrso to match every price large retailers offer give they no doubt have a much larger customer base - but at the same time with price differential I pointed out in this post it's hard to get people to switch to purchasing Vysro resources. I know there is no easy answer too some of these issues. Thankful for the regular free books David Cook allows Vyrso to offer us.

For me, this depends greatly on the book and on who the "other retailer" is. If the book was "theology" in the widest sense, and I want to have it, I'd be happy to pay the $8 premium to see it in my Logos environment. My experience with bible reference lookup is great (save commentary-style books) and I'd want it to come up in searches. Plus: comfortable highlights and notes. Thus, Vyrso would be the way even if it was more expensive. Note that doing a full conversion of another format into a PB including footnotes etc is usually not worth the time effort.

If the book was e.g. self-help or inspirational reading, my willingness to pay more for Vyrso drops a bit (but I'm no pastor, so counseling books etc are not a research target for me). Here the book format / other retailer question sets in: For me, books in ePub format are a pain. Adobe Digital Editions is only a set of rudimentary features, and the ePub reader software available for Kindle fire is only slightly better (plus the hassle of transferring). I sometimes pick up free David C. Cook books in ePub format, but I actually dislike reading them. PDFs aren't better. On the other hand, Kindle format of course plays nicely on the Fire. But it still is geared mostly to recreational reading. Thus, for Christian Living types of books running Vyrso or any other Logos app on the Fire is worthwile: Kindle format has no bible verse lookup, footnotes are hit and miss, four colours for highlights that all turn out yellow in Kindle for PC, a frugal note feature and no copy-paste for German customers of Amazon. This might still translate into a say up to $4-5 premium for non-fiction books.

I admit I do read fiction, and sometimes I pay (a little) for it. Given what I wrote above, Vyrso and Kindle are at par, and I'd probably not pay a premium for Vyrso over Amazon - some cents maybe in loyalty to Logos. But this may go the other way round also, when I check out a more convenient look-into and some user reviews on Amazon. I'd pay a premium for either of these over ePub, though.

It depends on whether or not I want to access the resource in Logos/Verbum. If I don't need access, then there is no reason to pay any differential unless I want to claim payment for the time required to research prices.

most of the time when Vyrso has a sale or free titles - Amazon runs the same sale (for example, recently Beth Moore books were free on both), since it is a publisher deal. What I do is buy them in both - the time it takes to check and buy is even quicker than the new "send it to Kindle" feature in Logos!

MOST Vyrso books are very comparable in price. Vyrso sometimes beats Kindle. Sometimes by a lot... But the opposite is more likely to be true. Amazon uses "lost leaders" frequently. The "daily deal" books appear the next day under "top sellers," at more "premium" prices.

To me the issue isn't "where is that book," but rather the desire to serendipitously find things in searches, which only happens with a unified search library. Having books in several formats is fine if you always know exactly which book you want. I don't, and I depend upon my "personal search assistant" (Logos).

Too bad. I already purchased it at Amazon. You might want to get on Monergism's mailing list. They do a good job of listing all the Christian Kindle books that are on sale. Crossway also sends out an email every week letting people know what their weekly specials are. Ideally the your publishing partners should be doing this. I don't know how you expect Vyrso to remain competitive if you can't price match Amazon. The only thing the justifies a higher cost for a Vyrso book is the fact that bible references are linked to a bible. (I have to admit that this is a very nice feature and I really miss it when I read a book on my Kindle.)

Don't you guys get it? You DON'T get the books you want (because they are not in Logos) and you get books that you DON'T want (when purchasing a bundle when you want something specific - maybe even 1 title).

I don't know how you expect Vyrso to remain competitive if you can't price match Amazon.

No one consistently beats or price matches Amazon.
Vyrso is typically competitive with Amazon on most items.
Publishers often offer specials to some retailers and not others. (Apple & Nook have this title at full price right now.)

The only thing the justifies a higher cost for a Vyrso book is the fact that bible references are linked to a bible.

That is a nice feature... but it isn't the "only" thing. In fact, I don't think it is the most important thing. The single reason I want the Vyrso edition rather than Kindle is because I want the book in my research library. When I do a search on a word, 100% of my Vyrso resources (with that word) return hits and exactly 0% of my Kindle ones do. [;)]

Agreed Alabama, which is why I think there is some wiggle room in paying a little extra for Vyrso over Kindle, but how much do you a wiggle was the point of this post. The fact that Brian was able to get us a better deal on this resource was a bonus much appreciated.

If I needed the resource, I would consider the price differential and the difficulty of trying to convert the resource to my satisfaction. I would also consider if I needed the book on mobile. I have largely stopped buying books on kindle, unless they were free. The primary exceptions: 1) very expensive logos editions for a few bucks on a daily sale 2) books not available in logos/Vyrso and 3) fiction.
