How can I turn off Verse of the day image?
How can I turn off the verse of the day image?
How can I turn off the advertising on the home screen? I paid a lot of money for Logos and don't want the any advertisements.
How come I have to go to the Home page every time I run the application?

I'd also like to know how to turn off the verse of the day image. Is there a way?

How can I turn off the verse of the day image?
Currently, the verse of the day image cannot be turned off. I'm not sure if this will change in the future or not...I know some users have asked for this feature and there is an inquiry case open which asks if we want to add the ability to disable it, but for now it will always appear.

You can hide individual news posts by pressing the "Hide" button on each post. There isn't a way to disable them altogether. I think it's worth noting that not all of the news posts are advertisements...sometimes there will be blog posts with interviews with authors or tips on how to use certain features of the Logos software.
How come I have to go to the Home page every time I run the application?
The home page loads every time you initially start the app. If you exit the app by pressing the "Home" button on your device, rather than pressing back repeatedly, when you resume the app, it will open right to where it was when you closed it, instead of the home page.
To its credit, the home page also offers another useful feature...it shows you a list of your "Daily Readings"...your current reading plans or devotionals. This lets you easily access your next readings right away when you open the app. In the future, we will be adding more items and features to the home page, making it more useful and hopefully making it something you want to see every time you start the app. [:)]

Well, if this evil-ish feature on Android 'slithers' over to iOS, then at least on my iOS's, Kindle's not going to have ANY competition.
I was going to put 'any competition on iOS'. But then I thought, why would I buy electronic and not be able to read on my iOS. So I expanded the Kindle-ness world to my PC too.
Goodness, Logos tries to be in your face.

I'm not quite sure what you mean Denise...as far as I know, iOS has the same news items as Android...although iOS may not have the "Hide" buttons yet.

Maybe I misunderstood this thread .... being forced onto the home page. And 'news items' is the slithering-talk for 'advertisements'.
Let's see. The final question of the OP. And the next to final answer from you.
I have maybe a hundred apps (paid). The single one (for which I have a $15k investment) can't seem to get it into their head how to be courtious.
And can't imagine a user(s) that doesn't share their theology.
So far, Logos iOS pops to the library (used to pop to the last read but that silently changed). I'm just saying if the Android feature slithers over, then Kindle will become my platform of choice (who knows how to be courtious and is a 'business').

being forced onto the home page
Hi Denise,
As Drew mentioned, if you are done using the Logos app just press the Home button on your device (whether Android or iOS) and the next time you use the app it will open at the same place. http://screencast.com/t/lpkANqP1ms8

Kevin ... no offense but yes, Drew mentioned that. And no, I don't keep Logos's (or any of my other apps) sitting there using the Home button. Well behaved apps don't require it.
And no, I don't have any paid apps that insist on dumping me into the Home page with advertisements or as you guys call them 'news items'. And I don't need your verse of the day either (which isn't to say I don't read a verse of the day).
I'm just saying a forced home page on iOS will mean no purchasing from Logos period. I'm personally tired of in-your-face behavior that showed up in 2009 on L4, and now appears to be slithering toward the mobile platforms. My recommendation in 2009 to Logos, and my recommendation now is to move Logos up to the next level by learning to respect the customer. The phrase 'well, some users like' means create an option. Wasn't that easy?

Best practice is not to leave apps running in the background which this solution is suggesting. Fine if i'm coming back to it in a few minutes, but say a couple of hours later, and in between I am going to use a whole bunch of other apps, then I am going to shut down completely the app and not leave it running in he background. And when I relaunch it I want to come back to where I left it more often than not. The Logos desktop program to borrow from Denise is well behaved. The mobile app needs to learn the same and give the user the choice of opening to home page, library or to last session.

Just to correct one of my statements, iOS on iPhone/iPod initializes where you last left off (inside the resource). iPad initializes in the library. And I guess Android initializes on the Home Page.
Looks like either the coding isn't consistent or the design. In any event, Kindle and all my other readers match 'reading' (returning you to the exact position you left it). If I remember right, Logos used to be a 'book' company for 'reading'. Amazon's still a 'book' company, thank goodness.

Hello All,
I really enjoy the option upon logon in windows to have logos return to my last layout instead of the home page, and I've been unsuccessful in researching on how to get my new android device to do this. Am I correct in reading here that that is not an option for the android? I notice that if I press "home" on my android as suggested here that the current layout is only retained as long as I keep logos open, but once I close logos and later reopen it, my previous layout is lost!!! Am I stuck with this situation?

I've got to agree with the "News Feed" there is so much advertising in it as choke out any "News" among the thorns

I tried using the "Hide" button but it's quite difficult to be precise with a tablet and I often end up clicking the advert rather than Hide by mistake. This defeats the object. In any case, why should I have to hide these wretched things one-by-one? I buy when I choose to buy. I don't want to see an advert every time I open my Bible.
Please provide an option to bypass the home page and go straight to where one last left off, even if the app has been closed and the tablet rebooted.

Agreed.
Drew/Kevin, Android and other developers et al...
As another developer of business apps, having features is nice, but the constant barrage of sales ads and stuff chokes any news and becomes burdensome. I have setup my profie to get most - if not all - via e-mail and to have it coing in in multiple areas is just plain rude of Logos. If folk want to see the ads then let them set their profile to have it e-mailed. Otherwise don't burden us with the ads. I consider it nothing more than spamming and to be frank has not caused me to purchase one additional resource.
As for apps behaving correctly...when an app is done being used it should politely close. I know you can create a way to save the spot some one was at, but it shouldn't remain in memory taking up resources. Portable devices are requiring more and more resources and developers need to understand that when we are done with an app, it needs to close cleanly.
Thanks for listening.

Oh really? I didn't realize that.
sincerely,
Every news website that you go to just read the story/article.0 -
Willie, the point is data download levels...if you have an unlimited plan for data, I say go for it...but many people don't whether at home or on the road. Companies are putting more limits or charging for when you go over or worse yet throttle you back.
You may not like the word - barrage - but when it interfere's by creating more noise and makes getting to the meat harder it is annoying.
As for news...I use DRUDGE and it let's me pick an choose. Not as much noise there.
Peace

K, just my sense of humor.
But what I was thinking is: Logos could offer VOTD as it is today for those who wish for credit/coupons/promos.. disable (un-enable) for the rest. Just split the loaf in two.

I understand that the daily devotion/verse can't be turned off. Instead, is it possible to make the top portion of the screen larger so more of the bible is visible and the daily stuff doesn't take up so much room?

The next beta of the Android apps will allow many of the home page sections to be enabled and disabled by the user, including the Verse of the Day section.

Any chance that there can be an option to just go to the "Read" section when it opens? I'll be honest - I NEVER read a single one of the Home Page items. Ever. This is exactly why - back in the day - I sold my Tivo. They insisted on adding ads to the home page. It's also why I use my Playstation 3 rather than my Xbox 360 - the Xbox opens to ads.
I know people are in the business of making money, but it really turns people off when its shoved down your throat every time you open the app. It really lets you know that you're nothing but a consumer.

I'm over on the iOS side, and it bears repeating; the iPod/iPhone version opens on the last book read. The iPad opens on the library sorted most recent. And presumably the Android opens on the home page. I really have a suspicion I'm going to end up with Libronix (I was hoping to replace it with Bible! etc).
But I agree with Harp (as usual). Amateur marketers rub the faces of consumers in the raw message, thinking somehow maybe they can sell something. The random phone calls might make sense; 999 angry people that won't buy ever, vs 1 that did. I feel sorry for the non-profits that use random phone calls; they create a legion of non-givers.
But I do wish Logos would hire a real marketer (vs what appears to be coders turned maybe-someone-will-buy-something-this-time). They have a HUGE library of nifty book products, a HUGE bank of potential customers married to their library. And a HUGE vacume of cross-coding that would allow matching the two. And so we get the March Madness of white old men playing basketball (or trying anyway). And mobiles that ignore the obvious. Even Libronix had a better approach than the 2009 re-think.
Of course there's the abysmal lack of Logos appreciation that some denominations really cringe at verses displayed the way Logos likes to on the home page. Or that forced verses might interupt what some wish to do - concentrate on a specific theme, etc.
Logos really doesn't know its market. Or how to communicate.

Just checking if you had seen Drew's post earlier in this thread - http://community.logos.com/forums/p/80416/563301.aspx#563301 - where he says:

Which presumes one doesn't unload the app (which I always do since Logos won't let you turn off the app internet connect ... cellular management).

I agree. especially on a phone where the 'hide' buttons are even smaller. Every time I go to the logos app I am reminded of Jesus cleansing the temple [:D] having to wade through screens full of ads that I never read. I figure that if I want a resource I'll go look for it.
Also I note this thread dates back to 2014. How is it that nothing has been done about it nearly 2 years later?

Hiding the Verse of the Day image (the original topic) has been supported for quite a while. The News section cannot be disabled, by design. If you want to hide individual News items, just tap the Hide link for each of them - they should not appear again. If there are screens full of ads that you have hidden but keep coming back, please let me know.

Hi Kevin. Thanks for the reply. I saw the original topic was about the verse of the day and that matter has been resolved. However the subject of this thread had become the ads on the home page. I did think about starting another thread but decided to use this one instead.
Hiding the ads individually has also been discussed above and the issues with that have also been highlighted by users but not addressed by Logos. The ads and the start up to home screen are inappropriate in a Bible app and should be optional. Others have mentioned how much money they have invested in this software, I haven't spent as much as some but feel that if most app developers will turn off ads for a couple of dollars then Logos should too. Kindle has managed to develop an app that shuts down properly and still opens to the last location being read. It's not like we have a lot of options when it comes to using our purchased books on other apps, is there?

Hi Kevin.
Thanks for the link. Seems this subject will not go away [:(] Would it be possible for faithlife to consider an option for those of us who have paid for books to opt out of the ads? Unfortunately leaving the app open in the background is not a viable option for most of us, especially us students with old slow phones.
All the above being said, I do want to encourage you by saying that other than the 'home-screen-gate' debate, both the app and the windows platform have been a great resource for me over the years. It has saved me hours of digging through hard copy books in the middle of the night. So thanks and keep up the good work. Blessings.
Scott.

The answer to your question has already been stated in the link I posted.
