How can I turn off the verse of the day image?
How can I turn off the advertising on the home screen? I paid a lot of money for Logos and don't want the any advertisements.
How come I have to go to the Home page every time I run the application?
I'd also like to know how to turn off the verse of the day image. Is there a way?
Currently, the verse of the day image cannot be turned off. I'm not sure if this will change in the future or not...I know some users have asked for this feature and there is an inquiry case open which asks if we want to add the ability to disable it, but for now it will always appear.
You can hide individual news posts by pressing the "Hide" button on each post. There isn't a way to disable them altogether. I think it's worth noting that not all of the news posts are advertisements...sometimes there will be blog posts with interviews with authors or tips on how to use certain features of the Logos software.
The home page loads every time you initially start the app. If you exit the app by pressing the "Home" button on your device, rather than pressing back repeatedly, when you resume the app, it will open right to where it was when you closed it, instead of the home page.
To its credit, the home page also offers another useful feature...it shows you a list of your "Daily Readings"...your current reading plans or devotionals. This lets you easily access your next readings right away when you open the app. In the future, we will be adding more items and features to the home page, making it more useful and hopefully making it something you want to see every time you start the app. [:)]
Well, if this evil-ish feature on Android 'slithers' over to iOS, then at least on my iOS's, Kindle's not going to have ANY competition.
I was going to put 'any competition on iOS'. But then I thought, why would I buy electronic and not be able to read on my iOS. So I expanded the Kindle-ness world to my PC too.
Goodness, Logos tries to be in your face.
I'm not quite sure what you mean Denise...as far as I know, iOS has the same news items as Android...although iOS may not have the "Hide" buttons yet.
Maybe I misunderstood this thread .... being forced onto the home page. And 'news items' is the slithering-talk for 'advertisements'.
Let's see. The final question of the OP. And the next to final answer from you.
I have maybe a hundred apps (paid). The single one (for which I have a $15k investment) can't seem to get it into their head how to be courtious.
And can't imagine a user(s) that doesn't share their theology.
So far, Logos iOS pops to the library (used to pop to the last read but that silently changed). I'm just saying if the Android feature slithers over, then Kindle will become my platform of choice (who knows how to be courtious and is a 'business').

I tried using the "Hide" button but it's quite difficult to be precise with a tablet and I often end up clicking the advert rather than Hide by mistake. This defeats the object. In any case, why should I have to hide these wretched things one-by-one? I buy when I choose to buy. I don't want to see an advert every time I open my Bible.
Please provide an option to bypass the home page and go straight to where one last left off, even if the app has been closed and the tablet rebooted.
I understand that the daily devotion/verse can't be turned off. Instead, is it possible to make the top portion of the screen larger so more of the bible is visible and the daily stuff doesn't take up so much room?

The next beta of the Android apps will allow many of the home page sections to be enabled and disabled by the user, including the Verse of the Day section.
Yea!
Any chance that there can be an option to just go to the "Read" section when it opens? I'll be honest - I NEVER read a single one of the Home Page items. Ever. This is exactly why - back in the day - I sold my Tivo. They insisted on adding ads to the home page. It's also why I use my Playstation 3 rather than my Xbox 360 - the Xbox opens to ads.
I know people are in the business of making money, but it really turns people off when its shoved down your throat every time you open the app. It really lets you know that you're nothing but a consumer.
I agree. especially on a phone where the 'hide' buttons are even smaller. Every time I go to the logos app I am reminded of Jesus cleansing the temple [:D] having to wade through screens full of ads that I never read. I figure that if I want a resource I'll go look for it.
Also I note this thread dates back to 2014. How is it that nothing has been done about it nearly 2 years later?

Hiding the Verse of the Day image (the original topic) has been supported for quite a while. The News section cannot be disabled, by design. If you want to hide individual News items, just tap the Hide link for each of them - they should not appear again. If there are screens full of ads that you have hidden but keep coming back, please let me know.
Hi Kevin. Thanks for the reply. I saw the original topic was about the verse of the day and that matter has been resolved. However the subject of this thread had become the ads on the home page. I did think about starting another thread but decided to use this one instead.
Hiding the ads individually has also been discussed above and the issues with that have also been highlighted by users but not addressed by Logos. The ads and the start up to home screen are inappropriate in a Bible app and should be optional. Others have mentioned how much money they have invested in this software, I haven't spent as much as some but feel that if most app developers will turn off ads for a couple of dollars then Logos should too. Kindle has managed to develop an app that shuts down properly and still opens to the last location being read. It's not like we have a lot of options when it comes to using our purchased books on other apps, is there?

Hi Kevin.
Thanks for the link. Seems this subject will not go away [:(] Would it be possible for faithlife to consider an option for those of us who have paid for books to opt out of the ads? Unfortunately leaving the app open in the background is not a viable option for most of us, especially us students with old slow phones.
All the above being said, I do want to encourage you by saying that other than the 'home-screen-gate' debate, both the app and the windows platform have been a great resource for me over the years. It has saved me hours of digging through hard copy books in the middle of the night. So thanks and keep up the good work. Blessings.
Scott.
