Installing Libronix on a Flash drive

Text of recent changes are in this colour

It is possible to run Libronix from a flash drive, but the
installation is a little tedious due to the many installation files
(.msi) that are required. When I performed this in January the installation of 3.0e worked only on Windows XP but it ran on both XP and Vista. It is possible that the applications will now install on Vista/Win7.

Download Ceedo from http://www.ceedo.com/products/ceedo-personal.html
and insert your flash drive U: (>= 8 GB recommended). During installation
Ceedo may download the Argo Installer but you can do it from http://www.ceedoready.com/addons/eng/argo/index.php. Note: ensure your flash drive has the same drive letter on each computer so that your resource paths will always be valid.

Make
sure that no other version of Libronix is running! From the Ceedo easy-access menu select Add-ons and use the Argo Application Installer to install
several files from your Libronix v3 installation disc (or from a copy on your
hard drive):-

A. DLSSetup.exe in \Setup\Installs

B.
Setup.exe
This will display the familiar Libronix Update window. Make your
selections and hit Update. It will eventually fail, but don't
worry! Execute Setup.exe again. You should see a list of  resources and
required System Components. Write down all the Components and cancel the
Update window.

C. Install the msi files from \Setup\Installs (using
Argo):-

  1. BatchUpdate
  2. LibronixDigitalLibrarySystem

  3. LibronixDLSApplication
  4. LibronixDLSShortcuts
  5. ComonSystemFiles
  6. BibleDataTypeSystemFiles
  7. <LLS, Oeb, & PDF>ResourceDriver,
    Z3950Library
  8. SentenceDiagramming, GraphicalQueryEditor,
    ClauseVisualizer (depending on your licence).

D. Install other msi files that you
need e.g. VideoResourceDriver, SESB, LogosSmartTags

E. Store your resources on the flash drive in \Ceedo\Program Files\Libronix
DLS\Resources.

F. Start LDLS from the All Programs Menu and restore your
licences. LDLS will discover any resources on your hard drive but you could temporarily hide/Recycle them. If necessary, change Resource Paths.

G. Copy your User Files to U:\My Documents\Libronix DLS and Preferences to
U:\Ceedo\User\Application Data\Libronix DLS.

H. Some Addins may not be
installed so copy them from \Setup\LDLS\Addins to U:\Ceedo\Program Files\Libronix
DLS\Common\LDLS\Addins. Same thing with their data
sets (search \Setup for names like People, Pronunciations, Timelines).

Steps F (licences), G and H are error prone but you could use Libronix Backup and Restore http://community.logos.com/forums/t/285.aspx:-

  • Backup your current installation to F:\logosbackup (for
    example)
  • Manually copy the contents of
F:\logosbackup\Prefs to U:\Ceedo\User\Application Data\Libronix DLS and then temporarily rename the \Prefs folder
  • Manually copy the contents of F:\logosbackup\Licences to U:\Ceedo\Common\Application Data\Libronix DLS\Library\Licenses and then temporarily rename the \Licences folder
  • Run RestoreLibronix e.g. RestoreLibronix F:\logosbackup "U:\Ceedo\Program Files\Libronix
DLS" -u "U:\My Documents\Libronix DLS" (this copies missing items from Step H as well as User Files)

    Thanks Dave

    Yes Dave....thank you.

Now the real test will be running it from my work computer.

When I winged it, it worked on my lap top but not on my work computer.

    David,

I took it to my work PC that runs XP and no dice.

From the stick it would just hang on the splash screen.

I took the contents of the stick and put it on my desktop and ran it from there and it would load a quick splash screen and then never launch logos.

I've tried the recommended steps from the knowledgebase to fix it but nothing worked.

    Anyone got any ideas?

I need to know exactly what you put on the stick. It does not help to say that you  "winged it" ....

    Dave,

No..you misunderstand; I had winged it before.

NOW I followed your above directions to a T....and the result is what I said in the second post.

    sorry for the confusion.

What version of Libronix did you install?

Did you first run Ceedo on the computer (Start Ceedo from Autorun menu or StartCeedo.exe on the stick) and start Libronix from its Easy Menu?

    Dave,
I'm trying to install 3.0E from the disk I received recently.'

I started Ceedo from the "Ceedo.exe" on the stick itself...ran Ceedo. Used the "Argo" installer to install.

When I tried to start libronix it was from the Ceedo menu that sits at the top of my monitor.

    Dave,

    UPDATE:

I reinstalled on my stick per your instructions. Here is the situation:

1.) On my laptop (the machine where I installed to Ceedo) everything works fine.

2.) On my desktop and another employee's desktop the splash screen comes up and disappears and Logos never comes up. I did the knowledge base steps of registering the DLL and also the ACT bar.ocx thingy and it's still the same.

The only thing that I can think of is that the commonality on the work desktop and the other employee's desktop is that they are not "admins" and on my personal laptop; I am an admin. (although Ceedo specifically states no admin rights necessary)

    Hi dave

I followed you intructions to the letter. I get Libronix to launch but it does not find any resources from any folder I point it to. I tried in the default location as well as others on the removable disk.

I also could not get restore to work because it said that permissions were invalid, so I manually copied the backup to the correct folders. I used the permission script, but this made no difference.

    Any ideas?

Does the same thing work with Logos 4?

And will it be still useful since the Logos 4 has the Sync. function already?

Also, will it make the program too slow?

    Thanks.
