Installing Libronix on a Flash drive
Text of recent changes are in this colour
It is possible to run Libronix from a flash drive, but the
installation is a little tedious due to the many installation files
(.msi) that are required. When I performed this in January the installation of 3.0e worked only on Windows XP but it ran on both XP and Vista. It is possible that the applications will now install on Vista/Win7.
Download Ceedo from http://www.ceedo.com/products/ceedo-personal.html
and insert your flash drive U: (>= 8 GB recommended). During installation
Ceedo may download the Argo Installer but you can do it from http://www.ceedoready.com/addons/eng/argo/index.php. Note: ensure your flash drive has the same drive letter on each computer so that your resource paths will always be valid.
Make
sure that no other version of Libronix is running! From the Ceedo easy-access menu select Add-ons and use the Argo Application Installer to install
several files from your Libronix v3 installation disc (or from a copy on your
hard drive):-
A. DLSSetup.exe in \Setup\Installs
B.
Setup.exe
This will display the familiar Libronix Update window. Make your
selections and hit Update. It will eventually fail, but don't
worry! Execute Setup.exe again. You should see a list of resources and
required System Components. Write down all the Components and cancel the
Update window.
C. Install the msi files from \Setup\Installs (using
Argo):-
- BatchUpdate
- LibronixDigitalLibrarySystem
LibronixDLSApplication- LibronixDLSShortcuts
- ComonSystemFiles
- BibleDataTypeSystemFiles
- <LLS, Oeb, & PDF>ResourceDriver,
Z3950Library - SentenceDiagramming, GraphicalQueryEditor,
ClauseVisualizer (depending on your licence).
D. Install other msi files that you
need e.g. VideoResourceDriver, SESB, LogosSmartTags
E. Store your resources on the flash drive in \Ceedo\Program Files\Libronix
DLS\Resources.
F. Start LDLS from the All Programs Menu and restore your
licences. LDLS will discover any resources on your hard drive but you could temporarily hide/Recycle them. If necessary, change Resource Paths.
G. Copy your User Files to U:\My Documents\Libronix DLS and Preferences to
U:\Ceedo\User\Application Data\Libronix DLS.
H. Some Addins may not be
installed so copy them from \Setup\LDLS\Addins to U:\Ceedo\Program Files\Libronix
DLS\Common\LDLS\Addins. Same thing with their data
sets (search \Setup for names like People, Pronunciations, Timelines).
Steps F (licences), G and H are error prone but you could use Libronix Backup and Restore http://community.logos.com/forums/t/285.aspx:-
- Backup your current installation to F:\logosbackup (for
example) - Manually copy the contents of
F:\logosbackup\Prefs to U:\Ceedo\User\Application Data\Libronix DLS and then temporarily rename the \Prefs folder - Manually copy the contents of F:\logosbackup\Licences to U:\Ceedo\Common\Application Data\Libronix DLS\Library\Licenses and then temporarily rename the \Licences folder
- Run RestoreLibronix e.g. RestoreLibronix F:\logosbackup "U:\Ceedo\Program Files\Libronix
DLS" -u "U:\My Documents\Libronix DLS" (this copies missing items from Step H as well as User Files)

Yes Dave....thank you.
Now the real test will be running it from my work computer.
When I winged it, it worked on my lap top but not on my work computer.

David,
I took it to my work PC that runs XP and no dice.
From the stick it would just hang on the splash screen.
I took the contents of the stick and put it on my desktop and ran it from there and it would load a quick splash screen and then never launch logos.
I've tried the recommended steps from the knowledgebase to fix it but nothing worked.
Anyone got any ideas?

I need to know exactly what you put on the stick. It does not help to say that you "winged it" ....

No..you misunderstand; I had winged it before.

What version of Libronix did you install?
Did you first run Ceedo on the computer (Start Ceedo from Autorun menu or StartCeedo.exe on the stick) and start Libronix from its Easy Menu?

Dave,
I'm trying to install 3.0E from the disk I received recently.'I started Ceedo from the "Ceedo.exe" on the stick itself...ran Ceedo. Used the "Argo" installer to install.
When I tried to start libronix it was from the Ceedo menu that sits at the top of my monitor.

Dave,
UPDATE:
I reinstalled on my stick per your instructions. Here is the situation:
1.) On my laptop (the machine where I installed to Ceedo) everything works fine.
2.) On my desktop and another employee's desktop the splash screen comes up and disappears and Logos never comes up. I did the knowledge base steps of registering the DLL and also the ACT bar.ocx thingy and it's still the same.
The only thing that I can think of is that the commonality on the work desktop and the other employee's desktop is that they are not "admins" and on my personal laptop; I am an admin. (although Ceedo specifically states no admin rights necessary)

Ceedo may do its own registering when it starts. For instance it has its own copy of MSXML4.dll, but it may not hurt to try:
regsvr32 U:\Ceedo\Windows\System32\MSXML4.dll
as well as:
regsvr32 U:\Ceedo\Program Files\Libronix DLS\System\ActBar2.ocx
It also may not hurt to try Solution 4 at http://www.logos.com/support/article/343

It worked OK on my non-Admin account in Win XP. Ceedo also allowed Admin-only tasks to be performed (Libronix Update, change Resource Paths), presumably preserving the rights of the Admin account in which it was installed.

Dave,
I guess I should have specified that I did all of those things up to #5 (the reinstall)
still nothing.
Could it be something weird like "NET framework" version to low?
I should clarify; the splash screen stays and Ceedo and LDLS locks up so hard I have to restart

It has nothing to do with .NET Framework - I cannot see any dependency for Ceedo and there is none for Libronix, which requires Internet Explorer. Ceedo seems to package its applications such that unique dll's only are stored on the device - it uses the host resources for the most part. If an application requires .NET then it will have to be installed by Argo!
======
If the splash screen stays have you tried Delete Temporary Internet files: @ http://www.logos.com/support/article/421?
I just tried my USB stick on an unknown XP computer and Libronix ran successfully. I wonder if you should try 3.0f.

John,
Here is the situation at this point:
1) I did a fresh install of Ceedo and Logos.
2.) I could NOT update to 3.0F; it hung at 0% so I just copied the updated file from my current C drive install of Logos into my Ceedo (resourceautoupdate) or whatever it was called and that updated me to F.
3.) I deleted temp internet files
4.) renamed prefs
5.) reg the DLL from the knowlede base article
6.) registered the OCX toolbar thingy from that same article.
still hangs at the splash screen. (One thing to note: when it hangs, it doesn't hang the whole PC....just Ceedo)
any other good ideas?

When installing with Argo do you see an orange border around each window (e.g. Libronix Update and each .msi) which indicates it is being built by Ceedo?
In \Ceedo\Program Files\Libronix DLS\Common\Components do you see all of the following *.lbxdat files:-
- BatchUpdate
- BibleDataTypeSystemFiles
- ComonSystemFiles
- GraphicalQueryEditor
- LibronixDigitalLibrarySystem
LibronixDLSApplication- LibronixDLSShortcuts
- LibronixUpdate
- LLSResourceDriver
- OebResourceDriver
- Z3950Library

Dave,
I converted the drive to NTFS. Then I uninstalled Libronix and reinstalled per your instructions, making sure everything was orange bordered.
I went through the steps with the dll and the ocx and the prefs because I'm getting the disappearing splash screen and the app doesn't start.
It will only run on my laptop where it was installed.

Dave,
I uninstalled Libronix.
converted the drive to NTFS
Reinstalled Libronix
did all of the fix it steps from the web page to fix "disappearing splash screen"
No improvement. Same on my work PC and on another unrelated PC.
It only launches on my laptop.

Seems I'm the only one to get this working consistently. My 1 GB mini-installation even works on my wife's memory-and-processor-challenged computer (512 MB on 650 MHz Athlon) as well as a friend's unknown computer I referred to earlier.

How about you mail me a new 4 GB USB drive and I'll send you mine!
If you have a web site with storage I'll upload the root Ceedo folder 315 MB - you just have to add resources + use your own User Files in \My Documents.

dave,
I signed up for free storage at http://www.debhoelai.com/ where you get 10GB free.
please email me at: rpavich at gmail dot com for the llogin credentials so you can upload the Ceedo root folder.
Also, if that doesn't work I'm serious about swapping thumb drives...I'd do it at this point...

Dave,
Arggg!!!
I appreciate all your help but it's still not working!
I used your stick files, ran it on my lap top, then created a limited user account and ran it on my lap top...everything still ok....
But on my work computer?
the splash screen comes up...then disappears and no logos...the executables are running...but nothing comes up.
I guess this is the end unless you or someone else has a good idea....

Dave,
I got on the Ceedo forum and asked if there were any good tips anyone had to help and they had one that seemed everyone agreed that it was a good idea.
Basically it's this:
You need to create an unhooked shortcut for the app in order to
get it to run.
To create an unhooked shortcut for the app, first delete the existing
shortcut for the application open Argo from the easy-access menu.
Select the option to add a shortcut to an existing file.
Click the Browse button and navigate to [Ceedo drive]:\Ceedo\Program
Files\[application name]. and then double-click on the executable file
for the application.
Follow the Argo shortcut creation wizard through, selecting or creating
a folder for the shortcut in the All Programs menu, and on the last
screen (the one that has the finish button on it), click on the
Advanced button.
Select the NH-Mode radio button and click OK, and then click Finish.
The app should run.Robert Pavich

Hi dave
I followed you intructions to the letter. I get Libronix to launch but it does not find any resources from any folder I point it to. I tried in the default location as well as others on the removable disk.
I also could not get restore to work because it said that permissions were invalid, so I manually copied the backup to the correct folders. I used the permission script, but this made no difference.
Any ideas?

Does the same thing work with Logos 4?
And will it be still useful since the Logos 4 has the Sync. function already?
Also, will it make the program too slow?
Thanks.
