Of course not, I was blowing steam. However, if they did not fix the problem, I would have stopped purchasing Logos software.

The problem pertained to a RAM issue, and I plan to upgrade the RAM to about a gig, which should speed up the program. My next computer needs a separate video card, which should also help speed up the machine. It is amazing how slow a computer gets after one year.

The moral of all this is, as the Logos technology gets more sophisticated, you must have your machine upgraded as well. I have a 1.3 processor, but Logos functions better with 1.7 processor--a problem I plan to solve with my tax refund.

BTW, the concept of a Logos 6 that does not require indexing at all is quite appealing.

Keeping all other programs closed seemed to help solve the issue. But Logos is still a memory hog on the system as a whole, much like Photo-shop and other programs that tax the memory.

One last note, do not install updates until you go home; it will save on a lot of time--that was great advice.

Even 1 gig is too little for many modern applications to work effectively.

One online specification seems to indicate that your machine PQQ14U-005003 should come pre-configured with 6 gigabytes of memory. At any rate, I can't think of any desktops sold in the last two years with only 1 gig of pre-installed memory.

Perhaps you do have much more memory, but you need to re-seat your memory sticks.

Or maybe you need to clear up some misunderstanding on your end? Toshiba PQQ14U-005003? HP Desktop?

Do you mean to tell us you had less than a gig of RAM and a 1.3 GHz processor? Any of us on the forum could have told you the exact same thing had you posted specific machine specs rather than "it is a fast machine and not some old clunker." We are genuinely here to help our fellow users, and to be frank I'm pretty frustrated that you continued to rant and rave about how the problems are Logos' fault all while refusing to accept our help by providing specifics. Contrary to popular opinion, some of us know what we're talking about.

But Logos is still a memory hog on the system as a whole, much like Photo-shop and other programs that tax the memory.

I made this exact point yesterday. To use a powerful program like Logos and expect it to take up the same computing power as Minesweeper is unreasonable. Logos is more comparable to Photoshop, and like Photoshop it takes a reasonably powerful computer to run it well. Yes, they could reduce its power in order to run better on older machines, but that's a bad decision for professional software because it punishes users who have invested in fast computers and expect commensurate performance benefits.

I'll add one more thing. Logos has published system requirements. Under no circumstances should it be expected to run with less than 1 GB of RAM—the published minimum is 2! There's no conspiracy here.

not all of us are computer savvy, I had no idea how primitive this new computer was--I bought it only a year ago!

Kudos to the members who know better.

That's an understandable and common problem, I don't blame you for not knowing. It's why we asked for specifics.

Another option is changing Logos program settings to turn off automatic downloads.

    Keep Smiling Smile

I've been running this way for ages, and I love the flexibility of choosing when (or if) I download an update.  although indexing doesn't take a great deal of time on this machine, my cloud based backup (CrashPlan) detects the rebuilt index and wants to upload it within a few minutes of the indexing completion.   Hence, I always kick off an update (including resource downloads, unless my Instant Gratification button has been pushed) at bed time, and let her download, reindex, and backup while I'm asleep.

I thought it was a good moment to revive this thread - as I was enjoying using the web app;) Feels like they delivered on this request as the web app is getting more and more polished!
