Before posting I have tried to adopt the habit of doing a search to see if I am duplicating someone's past effort. There are two threads that mention this work and both references are authored by Paul Newsome MVP. The first was a suggestion way back in 2010 (a very productive year for insightful posts). http://community.logos.com/forums/p/24463/181815.aspx#181815 and more recently this year: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/24463/570865.aspx#570865 I support his shout outs, however, I would like to laser in on one title which I believe warrants particular attention.
Charles Quarles' Sermon on the Mount: Restoring Christ's Message to the Modern Church, available in Vyrso format https://vyrso.com/product/39517/sermon-on-the-mount-restoring-christs-message-to-the-modern-church
This is a well done coverage of the beloved and sublime sermon of our Savior. It reviews theological perspectives of giants like Augustine, Calvin, and Luther just to name a few of my favorites. Pastors and leaders will find this a welcome bridge between works like Betz's work found in the Hermeneia commentaries and works that look to emphasize application.
I was impressed by Quarles' grasp of the subject matter and his view towards presenting it to an audience hungry to understand how it applies to how we walk out our Christian lives today.
I could go on with plaudits. But, I won't waste time you could be reading this wonderful yet brief commentary on our Lord's most important extended message to His disciples.
I think you are going to enjoy this one.
