A Wonderful Commentary on the Sermon on the Mount!
Before posting I have tried to adopt the habit of doing a search to see if I am duplicating someone's past effort. There are two threads that mention this work and both references are authored by Paul Newsome MVP. The first was a suggestion way back in 2010 (a very productive year for insightful posts). http://community.logos.com/forums/p/24463/181815.aspx#181815 and more recently this year: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/24463/570865.aspx#570865 I support his shout outs, however, I would like to laser in on one title which I believe warrants particular attention.
Charles Quarles' Sermon on the Mount: Restoring Christ's Message to the Modern Church, available in Vyrso format https://vyrso.com/product/39517/sermon-on-the-mount-restoring-christs-message-to-the-modern-church
This is a well done coverage of the beloved and sublime sermon of our Savior. It reviews theological perspectives of giants like Augustine, Calvin, and Luther just to name a few of my favorites. Pastors and leaders will find this a welcome bridge between works like Betz's work found in the Hermeneia commentaries and works that look to emphasize application.
I was impressed by Quarles' grasp of the subject matter and his view towards presenting it to an audience hungry to understand how it applies to how we walk out our Christian lives today.
I could go on with plaudits. But, I won't waste time you could be reading this wonderful yet brief commentary on our Lord's most important extended message to His disciples.
I think you are going to enjoy this one.
Meanwhile, Jesus kept on growing wiser and more mature, and in favor with God and his fellow man.

Peace and Every Blessing, Beloved! *smile* Thank you for a lovely and very-captivating review! Because you got my attention -- AND -- Because it looks like an excellent book which would complement my library --
............. I intend to purchase "said" book soonest! *smile*
Right now I'm waiting for the Canadian Dollar to gain a little strength again over International Currency. We've been pretty weak for the last few months....
Kindest personal greetings! *smile*

Hi Milford,
Hope winter is receding where you are as this may lead to some improvement in the Canadian market and strength of its currency.
The commentary is part of a series and though I have not read any of the others (which I do intend when my disposable income increases) I believe it is the best of the lot. [:)]

Hi Beloved! *smile* Yes, it looks like a good series! Price wise - when Logos makes a Logos book out of a Vyrso book, those who bought the Vyrso book "inherit" a free upgrade to the Logos Volume. With the better "tagging" and Everything!
To me this looks like such a series .... so buying soon will likely be of benefit ...
Winter here is really hanging in there here in Eastern Canada! Unfortunately!
Something about an "Artic Vortex" hanging over us! *smile* My wife is going down to visit my daughter who lives on Grand Cayman for a few days, so at least one of us will be warm ... *smile*
However, fortunately I hear California got some rain .. Praise God, eh?!

Beloved!
I am so excited that you too have discovered this series and book!
I am currently being humbled in my reading of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Discipleship where he devotes multiple chapters to Matthew ch 5-7 with devotional commentary. We should add these to the Sermon on the Mount reading list along with other relevant material we find.

Agreed. Coming from someone who was martyred for his faith, humbling is a certain assessment.
Milford, I have my sights set on https://vyrso.com/product/39288/future-israel-why-christian-anti-judaism-must-be-challenged followed closely by https://vyrso.com/product/39691/the-ten-commandments as for weather no complaints from a Virginian.
