Text Comparison No 'Show Comparison' icons

I have Logos 4, and in the Text Comparison window I don't have the A icons to select the Show Differences function, which highlights variations between Bible versions. In the tutorial video it is displayed, and used, but I don't have it. I have circled the A icons I am talking about. Any ideas? Thanks.

Can you show a screenshot of what yours looks like? What bibles are you trying to compare?

And any reason you haven't upgraded to Logos 5?

What difference does it make which Bibles I am comparing? In the Video Tutorial that came with my purchase there is a Show Differences presentation, but I don't have that function.

To answer your question as to why I haven't upgraded to Logos 5, I don't think I need any more than what I've got - hundreds more dollars for not much gain really.

Sorry. I was grasping at straws there. I didn't realize that Show Differences is only available in higher packages, as pointed out in the thread Graham linked to.

To answer your question as to why I haven't upgraded to Logos 5, I don't think I need any more than what I've got - hundreds more dollars for not much gain really.

You can upgrade to the Logos 5 engine for free. They only charge for resources and databases, so if you don't want any more of those, you just go directly to the Logos 5 install page and install it from there, and you'll get some new features and bug fixes, but none of the new databases or resources. Logos 4 is no longer getting bug-fix releases, so if you want to stay current with the bug fixes, you will need to upgrade to Logos 5.

So I really need to get the Logos 5 engine then? Will that mean I continue to get bug fixes for Logos 4? Or will that mean I 'have' Logos 5, but without any more resources?

Upgrading to Logos 5 effectively replaces your Logos 4 installation.

Logos 5 is the upgrade to Logos 4. You will "have" Logos 5, then. Here's a video about what's new in Logos 5, made by Mark Barnes (not a Logos employee, but a volunteer MVP on the forums; he makes excellent videos!):

Logos 4.6c SR-7 was the final Logos 4 update, so there will be no more bugfixes to Logos 4 beyond that. If you have upgraded to that then you've got the most out of your Logos 4 installation that you'll ever get.

If you upgrade to Logos 5, it will replace Logos 4. You will still keep all your same resources no matter what, but unless you buy more (via a base package upgrade) you will have no new ones and none of the new datasets. A few of the new features won't be available without the new datasets because they require those datasets in order to function (. But you'll still be able to take advantage of other new functionality and more stability, and speed improvements, that have been done between Logos 4 and Logos 5.

If you do want the new datasets to be able to use new features like "Bible Facts: Events" and "Timeline" but don't want to upgrade your base package, they have something call the Logos 5 Core Datasets which has no resources but includes the basic datasets; you can buy it for $79.95. And then there's also the Minimal Crossgrade which has all the new datasets and a very few new resources that are made to take especial advantage of new features in Logos 5. But again, neither of these is required if you just want to upgrade to the new free engine.

Thanks for you help Rosie. This is so confusing to me.

I stopped Mark's video near the start when he said "You need Gold or above for everything that's new." I have Leaders Library, so does that mean the Logos 5 free engine won't work for me? I didn't want to keep watching his video and fill my head with stuff not relevant to me, and get even more confused.

And Logos 5 Core Datasets?? Is that another one of their secrets? I might have bought that. I just don't want any more books, so I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars.

If you'll make a habit of checking the forums once or twice a week, you'll learn a lot about Logos just from browsing. Software users in general tend to be very eager to help others. But when you add the love for Christ and His people the effect is amplified.

Logos 5 free will work for you provided you have Windows Vista, 7, 8 (or higher) --> it will not work on Windows XP. You will have, and continue to enjoy, all the features and resources of your Logos 4. So install it from https://www.logos.com/support/logos5/windows/install and you will even find some extras. Then come back and ask more questions.
