Vyrso as a desktop application

Is there any thought of releasing Vyrso as a PC/Mac application?

At the moment it seems that it's going to be a mobile/web app, but I'd love to see a desktop app as well. At the moment I mainly use Logos as a glorified eReader, and having a simpler, and therefore (hopefully?) faster program for just reading would be tremendous.

Do you know about the Logos Reading View, invoked by hitting F-11? I can't imagine a Vyrso PC-App to do anything else, so basically you have it already on your machine - and the perceived slowliness of Logos shouldn't intrude on the "just reading" experience.

All well and good if you have a reliable connection and or don't have limits on how much data you can download. (I would rather download the titles and read them later).

I see this as an advantage for folks who don't want to or can't pay for the Logos software, but still wish to buy Vyrso or Logos books. Logos could even offer a couple of free resources (a bible) to get people to download. All of the major ebook players (other than LOGOS) do this now.

Well, but the Logos engine is free (see http://www.logos.com/4ways ) and there are a number of free resources from Logos as well as other third parties (see http://wiki.logos.com/Free_Logos_Books ) , including bibles. Thus people can buy and read Vyrso books on their PCs and just pay these books and nothing more, if they so wish.

I would also jump up and down for a desktop version...

1) Not everyone feels comfortable reading books logos "online". [This point is independent of connection speed.] This may seem like a duh factor ("don't us biblia.com then!"), but for those who could benefit from the other two points, it is relevent.

2) "Reading mode" does not help the startup time required to open the program. [That is key for me... using a small/slow netbook-tablet... if it had faster startup time, I would use it more one the go, like an ebook reader].

3) Logos cannot be run effectively on Linux via "wine", potentially Vyros could [PLEASE MAKE THAT THE CASE]!?!? If so, then the offline library could be accessed both by full-flegged linux users & by those who use an "instant boot" version of linux along side their prefferred OS.

When you say that everyone else is doing this, do you mean having a desktop app? Unfortunately, Apple's iBookstore is an exception to your statement. Of course, as has been mentioned, users can download the free engine for Logos4 and read their Vyrso books. I agree that a dedicated eReader app would be a nice touch though.

I think I could see the advantage of a separate desktop app, even if I have Logos installed on my computer. If I know that all I want to do is read a book and maybe see references in a pop-up I would open the Vyrso program. It could be very light weight and speed.

I read through this thread and I agree with the above. here's my take:

Biblia is a website. requires internet connection. also does not save location/settings.

Logos4 is the awesome for getting down to business, but it is too much for a reader app. more on this in a bit...

I have tried a plethora of "pad" devices, and all had too many challenges for my take. I wanted a tablet PC, not a tablet applet device.

it is the AWESOME best of both worlds. here's the catch; everyone's so concentrating on the applets that the applications that run on real computers are getting fewer and farther between.

Logos4 as an example works great on my tablet, and i just absolutely love it. with one minor inconvenience. it does not support the same touch-strokes that IE does in manipulating pages (up/down, back/forward). I have to use a pointing device - a mouse or the pen-pointer in my case. When I run the Kindle on my tablet, it works like i think a reader should, buttons large enough to touch, and seems to be made for this kind of device. While Logos4 seems to assume "mouse" interface.

anyway those minor complaints for the Logos4 forums. for here, it is my opinion that a PC reader would be a great way to interface if I want to just read. take my tablet to bed with me and cuddle up with a nice multi-volume set of someone's systematic theology as example. but cant; biblia.com wont save where I was and i have lost my place many times trying. and I cant use the pen to scroll through a book (no page turning option at all).

I am not sure why you are having this problem. I just opened a vyrso book and it opened where I had left off. They are billing Biblia.com as a "beta" release, so perhaps that is one of the issues.

I was skeptical of the idea when I saw the thread, but having read through peoples thoughts, its a reasonable idea to a least consider. Big thing for me would be it would need to share the resource directory of Logos 4, I wouldn't want to download stuff twice on my computer, and ideally, it would include filtering by tags in library browser.

A Vyrso desktop app could be a really good idea. But since the Mac and PC don't have feature parity yet and now they just came out with Proclaim, I think it will be awhile before Logos will attempt something like this. They have major updates to the current desktop and mobile apps to allows annotation syncing, at this time we still don't have notes and highlighting because they are trying to get it to sync through all platforms and OS, that's a challenging project without adding another application (on two different OS), doing it would possibly make the current syncing projects more complicated. I think creating a new application just for Vyrso will be a ways off. I just don't see Logos adding yet another two (1 PC and 1 Mac) applications at this time. With updates to the current apps being worked on, there might not even be enough programmers at Logos to start working on a Vyrso desktop app. But I could be wrong, especially if they are able to add more programmers.

Agreed. Logos is way to awkward to navigate. Tasks that should be easy are not intuitive or simple. I use it as a last resort and it's my only bible software.

I agree that Logos can be a challenge to use, but it is powerful software. If you need assistance in learning how to use it, please let us know. Feel free to start a new thread if you can't find the answers you are looking for.

In the meantime, I assume that you are looking for a way to read your Vyrso books on either your Mac or PC. You can do so using Biblia.com. You will just need to enter your username & password, and your resources will be available to you there.

Amazon get it right -- Logos get it wrong.

The Kindle app runs on many platforms yet for me, right now, to read my Logos books would require me to install an enormous app and clutter my small solid-state hard drive.

What we really need is something small, fast and simple that people actually enjoy using, like the Kindle apps. A lightweight Logos app (or Vyrso Mac/PC app) would be really good.

Unfortunately Logos are so backward.... I wish it was not so and I wish they would change.

Biblia does save last location. I have since verified.
ALSO, there is a "metro" app for vyrso and Logos Bible! for Windows 8 users that is just a "reader" app.

Just so my voice is heard...I do not see a need for any other stand-alone reader app on the desktop. For reader only function, only open one resource and only use the tools you want. I use Logos almost everyday on my MacBook Pro as a "glorified ebook reader"...and love it.

The problem was lack of space. You can't open one resource unless you first download all of them, and as people switch from large HD's to small SSD's, that becomes more and more of a problem.

His post was from 4 years ago, and his info may no longer be valid. My (limited) understanding is that he was referring to an app in the Windows Store (Metro referring to a windows app store app). I did a quick look and only found Faithlife Bible Screen Verse of the Day as a current app.

Also note: Logos has dropped the name "Vyrso" and has rebranded as Faithlife Ebooks.
