My Songs Magic Disappearing Trick

I have been having a problem over the last month or so and I could really use some help...I will try to explain the scenario as well as possible...

I have a presentation open from the last week, and all I am doing is beginning to update the slides and songs. I get to where I am putting in new songs, and that is where my problem happens:

Lets say I currently have the song: Jesus Messiah. I always (and have done this always) just click the title box (not the very top one in the main window, but the one above where the song lyrics are, and after I highlight that, I delete the title, and then type in my new song, for example I would type in Before the Throne. As always, the search dialogue box pops up below it, and it shows a list of "My Songs" that I have previously formatted and used. And all I normally do is then click Before the Throne, and then everything updates to the new song and refreshes...

Now the problem is, sometimes, when I go ahead and click on the song I want (in this example Before the Throne), it will actually just replace the title, and then the entire song stays as Jesus Messiah (the one I was trying to replace). Then the huge issue for me is, now the song "Jesus Messiah" has been changed to the title "Before the Throne" in my songs, and then Before the Throne is LOST! So then I have to go to my Song Select list and completely reformat a new Before the Throne. This has caused me a lot of grief, and I am curious if I am doing something wrong, or if there is a glitch. Can you help? This has been happening to me probably once every 10-15 songs I am replacing...

Thanks for the detailed report, I believe I understand what is happening. It sounds like calls to retrieve lyrics from your song database are failing periodically. When they fail the title gets set but not the lyrics. Each time the song is edited we start a five second countdown to an automatic save of the lyrics to the server. The problem is if the save occurs with the incorrect lyrics like you mentioned.

If you experience this again I'd love to see the log files from that session. I'm curious why you're repeatedly getting failed calls to retrieve a song. Do you normally have a stable internet connection? Are other calls failing? The logs are located here

Mac:

/Users/[username]/(~Library)/Application Support/Proclaim/Logging/
The Library folder might be hidden. If so, hit CMD+Shift+G and enter "~/library" into the box.

Windows:

%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\Proclaim Log Files\

A temporary workaround to avoid saving the incorrect lyrics would be to change the title immediately after you notice the failure in lyrics retrieval. In the case you mentioned you have 5 seconds to change "Before the Throne" to something like "Before the Throne remove me". Obviously this is not ideal and we'll work on getting a better solution out there soon. We'll probably avoid setting the title if the lyrics call fails.

The problem came on this one when I had Revelation Song, and then was trying to overwrite it and put in Christ is Risen. I did just like I explained in the previous post, the title changed to Christ is Risen, but all the lyrics stayed on Revelation Song. So now I lost the Christ Is Risen that I had formatted and had to reformat a new one. Hope you can figure it out. Thanks.

Just to give you an update, we are working on ways to prevent this and these changes should ship in the future. These changes will prevent overwriting a user's song if the call to get the lyrics fails.

Please please please fix this. This is becoming a gigantic problem for me. I needed to change a song during a service Wednesday, and I tried to, and it overwrote the one I needed and had to completely re-enter the song again. And it just happened again to a song that included a bunch of Scripture references I had included and now lost it all...

I tried to change the title back literally immediately just as the original support guy told me, and it did not work...lost it.

Not fixed...just did it again.

Not only that, but I was told that if you changed the title back to the original before it "saved" it would not do it....didn't happen. I did it WELL under the 7 seconds. I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to lose a song I have formatted and added Scripture to, and have to redo it.

PLEASE continue to help solve this, and thank you so much for your help and time put in to fix this far. Attached is my log file.. It happened with Lord Will Provide, I tried to change it to God of This City. 53148.Proclaim.log

Not fixed...just did it again.

Let me explain what the current expected behavior should be, with the recent change.

When I enter a song title into the entry helper and select one of my songs, if the call to retrieve the lyrics fails the song title will not be changed (will remain 'amazing' rather than 'Amazing Grace'). Therefore if the song is uploaded is should not overwrite the song you tried to select.

Is this not what you're experiencing?

Yes, that is what I just experienced, so it seems the fix should work. But in my last thread, it did not do this, and I am 99% sure it was after the update, but it doesn't matter now, because this should work. Thank you so very very much for helping get this resolved. It has been a huge burden. I appreciate it.
