Requesting user feedback: Send to Kindle feature

I may have missed it, but I would welcome this especially if it allowed me to just "export in kindle format" and not necessarily require me plugging my kindle in. I can email books to my kindle.
I use the kindle reader on my iPad and on my desktop frequently and I'd love to be able to read there. My old iPad is really slow when running the verbum app and I'd love to be able to use the kindle reader on it instead when I'm simply reading through something like a Robert E. Brown text.

I would be much more willing to buy Logos titles if I could export them to my Kindle. I don't like being restricted to a single platform.

Welcome to the forums Michael! [:)]
Although this feature would be very nice (I hope it comes!), I wanted to point out that you can already export to Kindle. Mark Barnes wrote an excellent guide found HERE.

Amazon has "print to kindle" function that can be used to export to kindle rather conveniently.
The installation file for PC is here http://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle/pc
For Macs http://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle/mac
Although the printer appears in the list from the print/export dialog in Logos, I was not able to send directly to kindle from there. What worked for me was the 2 steps method: (1) From the Logos print/export pane: save as file (doc, docx and rtf are supported). (2) Right click on the saved file and click on "send to kindle". In the dialog that appears, pick the device where you want it sent (if you have more than one). Done.
Obviously this works too for other documents on the pc/mac (unconverted pbb files).
I have not had the chance to test extensively. If someone finds a way to print directly from the Logos print/export, I'm sure many would like to know.

Almost 1.5 years after this thread started, it is here!
5.3 Beta 3 has the feature. I have tried it, but my Kindle is home so I have yet so see the results.
Thanks Logos! My most-requested feature is now a reality.

The results are perfect IMHO. I am now able to take some of the more casual books along for a read.

I'm not on beta, but am excited about this soon being available to the rest of us!!

If you make highlights on a kindle do they show up back in Logos or vice versa?

No, the personal archive documents will sync across Kindles and Kindle apps but not across to Logos and back.

As David said, No. However you can access your highlights at https://kindle.amazon.com/your_highlights and manually recreate them if you feel the need.Stephen Steele said:If you make highlights on a kindle do they show up back in Logos or vice versa?

What wonderful news! Thanks, Logos. This is excellent.

You can also access your Kindle highlights by plugging in and navigating to \documents\My Clippings.txt
That file contains all your highlights.

This is actually better! I can export my highlights to Evernote from here! With Logos highlights, I'm only able to view the truncated highlight.
What about Scripture hyperlinks??

Yes, Scripture hyperlinks are there. when you click on the scripture, it will take you to the scripture. Same thing with footnotes.
Strange thing is that the table of contents is not hyper-linked, but if you go to the very beginning of the book, after the book cover you'll see another table of contents which is hyper-linked.

How soon will this be available for the general public?!?!?

Great! Thanks David. I'm hopeful they will straighten out the rest of the hyperlinking.

Now, if you don't mind switching to the Beta channel. I have been using 5.3 since Beta 1 with zero issues.
Otherwise, who knows? I would guess 3-8 weeks. But I have no idea, really.

I would assume not long. It needs a good testing, that's what this beta period is for. Once it is confirmed that the feature isn't broken or breaking something else it will be released in the next "gold" release.

This probably has to do with the way Amazon accepts the files. I know with a lot of personal documents for Kindle, even ones I create myself, I end up with 2 TOC after the conversion. I don't think that is on the Logos side of things.

You should report this as a bug in the beta forum (if you haven't already). The table of contents in the books I have tested have worked perfectly... as has everything else. [:)]
Also, note that the Table of Contents that should be hyperlinked is the one that you go to when you select Go To - Table of Contents. If you manually navigate to other tables of contents in the book, it could be they won't be hyperlinked.

Yes, as I understand it the TOC that is part of the book in Logos is converted to text. But the send to kindle process generates a TOC based upon headings for the book.
This is, I think, built upon the same technology as Amazon's own "Send to Kindle" app.

Yes that is an Amazon function, you are correct.

Is there still a 100 page limit? If so, is there a work around for those really long books?
0 -
There's a file size limit (imposed by Amazon), so resources with hundreds of photos are off limits. But I've sent very large books to my Kindle (the whole bible, for example).
This is my personal Faithlife account. On 1 March 2022, I started working for Faithlife, and have a new 'official' user account. Posts on this account shouldn't be taken as official Faithlife views!

I have done that as well with the previous method of exporting to a word document and emailing it to my kindle. With that method I could just do 100 pages at a time and add them to the end of the document. However, with sending directly to the kindle it still seems to limit it to 100 pages and I can't just keep adding. Even setting the paper to A2 I can't get an entire 1200 page book to fit within this limit.

Eric,
You are describing something different.
You are describing using Amazon's "send to kindle" printer driver alongside the print/export function of Logos.
This is completely separate now. And to clarify: it is only in beta at the moment, so this will not work if you are not in beta.
Please revisit the release notes posted at the first post in this thread for using the beta send to kindle feature by way of the Library and the info panel.

There is a 50MB per file upload limit imposed by Amazon.
Question: What about this?
"You may not use the Service to send infringing, unauthorized, or otherwise illegal content."
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201124320
Would sending an entire book be considered "infringing content" by Amazon?

Not according the contracts which Logos has to work out with the publishers.

I am looking at it from Amazon's perspective. Does Amazon know about this and approve?
My point is Amazon would have no idea what contracts have been negotiated with Logos. They may see it as a competitor using their servers to store books that weren't bought from Amazon. Or a user storing "infringing works" on their servers. I would not want Amazon to shut down my account because of this.
From their Terms and Conditions:
"We may discontinue the Service or your participation in the Service at any time in our sole discretion. The permission we grant you to use the Service automatically terminates if you do not comply with these Terms."

Thank you TCBlack. I missed that part about looking in the info section of the book.

I absolutely would be thrilled... it would make Logos much more appealing to myself and many others. Syncing annotations would be nice, but even getting logos books downlaoded and readable on kindle would be amazing. Please develop this compatibility!!!

I genuinely am shocked by this information that the "send to Kindle" feature is up and running on the beta version of Logos 5. I'm thrilled as well. [:D]
Call me crazy, but how can I tell if I'm running beta or not?

If you are asking the question, you are not running beta. [;)]
There is a FORUM for beta users. The beta is open to the public... but note: Beta testing isnt for users who want the newest features first. It is for people who want to help out and provide feedback. It means having your computer crash at times. It means having to reinstall at times. You should not beta test on your only installation... especially if you depend upon it for work.

That being said, I have been running 5.3 since Beta 1 with not one crash or problem.
Your mileage my vary, but this has been a very easy Beta.

BTW, is there any chance that this feature gets enabled quietly as a part of the big update that is coming in two weekends (10/26)? Got the email about that yesterday.

The "big update" is completely related to RESOURCE updates, rather than a SOFTWARE update. I have no idea when the current beta will be released to the "stable" channel, but "release candidates" will need to come first. It is possible the two might happen near the same time, but I don't think so.

The other guys gave you the appropriate links, but let me add just a little. Beta testing isn't for people who just want the "newest features first." Beta testers may, from time to time, have major issues. You may need to completely reinstall your software. You should be willing to learn how to get logs and create bug reports.
I beta test, but I am not using Logos professionally at the moment. If you NEED Logos, you should make sure you have another installation on "stable channel" in case something goes wrong with your beta one. Some users (including myself), wait until middle or later builds and read through the beta forum to keep up to date with "how things are going." This is a good strategy to minimize major problems, but there are no guarantees. With that said, beta testing can also be really fun. [:)]
