EGW's Writings: Jump to book & page number?

Is there a way to quickly jump to a book and page number in EGW's writings in Logos? For example, if I am in class or listening to a sermon and the presenter/preacher says "this quote is from the second volume of the testimonies page 212." I want to be able to quickly type in Logos "2T 212" and have it jump to that quote.

I am very close to having the full functionality of the standalone EGW app in my Logos library. I can highlight EGW quotes, I can search all her writings quickly and easily with my "EGW Writings" collection I've created that works off of the tag "egw" etc.

But I have yet to figure out how to jump straight to a book and page number with Logos. Perhaps I'm missing out on how to do this? Has anyone else figured it out? Will this at least be a feature in the new EGW Lifeworks Edition coming out? Please let me know, thanks!

Right now if I search for a reference in my "EGW Writings" collection that I've created, it does kinda work only because it searches the scriptural index and topical index and then I can click to open the index that points to the book and page number I'm wanting and then I can load that book and page number from the index. But it seems like there should be a better way. After all, what if I am searching for a quote that is not listed in the topical or scriptural index? So, if I subtract the topical index and the scriptural index from me "EGW Writings" collection, then the workaround I mentioned no longer works. Thoughts?

Once we have EGW Lifeworks recompiled into the latest Logos technology, page searching will be easy.  I'm eager to see that happen, as we all are. No timeline yet but it's our top priority.

A work around would be to name each volume. Eg. Volume 3 of the testimonies give it a short cut called 3t.

To accomplish this select the resource information icon at the top right corner of the resource.

From the command bar you can type 3t and it will open up the right resource.

Thanks for your input, Martin! I am one of many at the Seminary alone who are excited about this happening and are eagerly awaiting the release of this! Keep up the good work! Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers and we are very thankful for everything that God has opened up the doors for you to do. I'm sure you will keep us posted! :)

Thanks for your feedback, Lynden. I've thought about this option too, but it only seems to work well for some books. For example, try typing "da" for Desire of Ages in your library or in the command box. I can't get Desire of Ages to pop up as an option at the top, even if I prioritize it in my library. It shows many other books first. Desire of Ages is #20 on the list for me.

Likewise if you type in SC for Steps to Christ, it is #22 on the list for me at least.

I suppose it's better than nothing, but still seems like it's not very quick because you have to scan the list and find the right entry, not knowing how far down it might be.

I still like your workaround better than the other one I mentioned because at least for some books it shows up as #1 or #2 on the list, and that saves time.

Also keyboard shortcuts save time. For example, it you're trying to get to 2T 212 quickly, you could use your keyboard to do this:

    1. Cmd + L (Open Library)
    2. Type "2t"
    3. Press down, then enter to open the book
    4. Press Cmd + G to go to the "Jump To" box
    5. Type "212" and press enter.

It's still quite the process, but if you memorize the shortcuts, it really can be done pretty fast.

I typed 2t in the command box.

da in the command box will present Daniel as the first option. The key is finding a unique combination that has not been used as yet.

Alright another crazy workaround to get the books to rank higher is to give it many tags. I tagged Desire of Ages with the tags: da, dada, ddaa, etc. and now when I search my library for "da" it shows up as rank #1.

This same process could be repeated for any other books that are not ranked #1 to begin with. Or yeah, as you just mentioned, you could come up with your own unique abbreviation for those books, but then you'd just have to remember what they are.

Thanks, never thought of that. Please share in the Adventist Faithlife Group.

Timothy. It works the same for me when I type DA for "The Desire of Ages" (and other books) but when it doesn't show up as one of the top few I backspace and begin typing the title of the Book "Desire...." until It shows up at or near the top of the list. All the Testimonies work normally by typing 3t etc...
