... a new Community Pricing title on St. Nicholas has come to town!

This classic work gives an overview not only of the legends and myths surrounding "Santa Claus" (and other related figures), but also the story behind the real bishop named Nicholas in the city of Myra, ca. fourth century A.D.

Check it out.

    I've placed my bid. [Y]

Using adventure and community to challenge young people to continually say "yes" to God

Nice, but could you please plan ahead a bit better when it comes to seasonal books: posting Lenten ones in early autumn, Easter ones in late autumn, and Christmas ones between Easter and summer? That way we have a better chance of actually getting them in time, rather than just after we needed them.

Also, could you please set your links not to open in a new tab.

EDIT: How timely: I just got this in my e-mail[:)]

Is there some rule against this? I like links to open in new tabs and I usually set them up this way in my own posts.

It's a nuisance for those of us who have to increase the font size in every new tab before we can read it. Instead of Click > read > go back I get Click > move over to the new tab > increase font size two steps > read > close the new tab > hope I'm taken back to the right tab and not another one. Plus I currently don't have room for any more tabs, so they just show as a >>, which makes it even more of a nuisance to find and open them.

Also, when I do want a new tab, it is very easy to hold down Cmd while I click, but there is no way that I know of to change it in the opposite direction, so one option preserves the reader's ability to choose for himself, while the other forces the poster's choice on him.

There was a thread about this at some point. At first several people wanted new tabs, but at the end the majority (a fairly large majority if I recall correctly) was against it.

What info can we learn more from this book that is not on the internet?

Thanks for the explanation; had no inkling it was inconvenient for others. I'll post my links differently from now on.

Was discussing with my grand-kids what their religion teacher had said about St. Nicholas.

I reminded them that St. Nicholas was into giving while Santa Claus was into getting.

    Bid has been placed.

??? Santa Claus gets milk and cookies. I am genuinely curious what you mean.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Yes, Santa Claus gets milk and cookies BUT only because he is giving us something worth more then the milk and cookies.

Yes, Santa Claus gives but we are only interested in him because he gives to us.

St. Nicholas gives to those that are in need, who might sometimes be us, but the key words are 'in need'.

Santa Claus encourages us to give our wife a BIG TV set - so we can watch the games.

St. Nicholas encourages us to insure that the family down the street has food all year not just the Thanksgiving Basket from Church.

Thanks David. I guess I have a warped view because my elder sister didn't think I should ever believe in Santa Claus and in our small community, every Santa Claus was my Uncle Doc [:)]

So I guess it would be wrong to put a carrot and some sugar in my shoe*, place it in front of my desktop and hope for a Logos freebie next week? [;)]

    [Y]

In secondary school we read two of the legends in Latin (at least partially). Our Latin teacher also taught us translations of traditional Dutch Sinterklaas songs:

    [quote]

    [quote]

    Luna lucet per arbores

    Iam clamorem mittite

    Venit vesper ille bonus

    Nicolae vesper est

    Quaeque palpitant corda

    Cui sit crustum, cui virga.

Can't you set the default zoom to something large enough that you don't need to do that every time? I have mine (Chrome) set to 125%.

I also prefer links to open in a new window, so I can check the new tab with the instructions, or information (if any) on the former.

    I'm in, also.

If this addresses Nicholas at Nicaea, perhaps it could be a source on Nick punching out Arius. Ho-Ho-Ho
