Where is my Oldest Resource? NIV Anglicised 1984

These smileys don't even begin to describe my feelings after the latest "Update" to SR-2. My oldest resource has vanished from my library! I have had it since Logos 1.6 in 1993!

Please restore my NIV Anglicised 1984 edition immediately!

"NIV Anglicised" finds it in my library after the update, but I do not have the 2011 version so maybe that is causing the issue for you.

My tuppence worth on this is that somehow the resource was corrupted on installation and relaunch of SR-2. I say this because just minutes prior to SR-2 being automatically installed I was actually using NIV Anglicised 1984 within my layout. After SR-2 installed the resource was gone. It was partially restored by following Bradley's suggestion, but it would be so reassuring to have the NIV Anglicised 1984 completely restored.

At the moment it is like a print book with its cover ripped off and the first few pages missing – you never know when the book itself may fall apart!

It looks as though it's something unique to your environment. I normally use the 2011 NIV and only normally use the Anglicised version for producing slides so wouldn't have been in the situation where it was open at the time of doing the upgrade. I suspect one of the other .db files has probably got corrupted, but am not knowledgeable enough to know which one it's likely to be.

The problem looks very much as if it's been caused by a faulty metadata update. Hiding, restarting, unhiding, and restarting again should refresh the metadata.

Edit: I tried again. This time I hid both NIV Anglicised versions (2011 and the anonymous one, presumably 1984). Closed Logos and Restarted. Unhid anonymous version. Then I Closed and restarted Logos. Anonymous version reappeared still anonymous. Then I unhid 2011 version. Closed Logos and restarted. This time when program opened it downloaded 2011 version! THIS HAD NOT SHOWN WITH ANONYMOUS VERSION!

This leads me to suspect that the metadata corruption, if that is what it is, stops the resource from being dumped and hence unhiding does not force a download on restart. Another thing that tends to reinforce this conclusion is that MyTags are still visible after an unhide.

Edit again:

Tried hiding resource. After restarting and checking Library and Hidden resources, I find that there is an unnamed resource ghosting in the Library panel!

How can I recover this situation, so a hidden resources is physically removed from the library, so that it can be subsequently redownloaded.

Please help.

Alan - the filename is ANIV.logos4. You could try renaming it to something like ANIV.logos4.old (with Logos not running) then try restarting and do an Update Now or Update Resources if necessary. I did that once before with a resource where I was having problems. If it doesn't work you could rename it back again. But make sure you rename or move it, don't delete it.

Thanks for your advice, which I attempted to follow.

When I opened up the resources folder I could not find ANIV.logos4. However, I did find two files ANIV.LIX and ANIV.LSF which I renamed with the suffix old, as you suggested.
On opening Logos the resources were still discovered and so I closed Logos and physically moved the two renamed files to my desktop
I then opened Logos which then downloaded a 6.1MB update.
Upon restarting Logos I found that the NIV Anglicised had been downloaded but it was still anonymous and without its cover.
I closed Logos and examined the Logos4 resources folder and discovered not ANIV.logos4 as I expected but fresh copies of ANIV.LIX and ANIV.LSF. [:O]

Is there another file in another folder which I need to disable in some way (by renaming and/or moving) so that ANIV.logos4 is downloaded?

I would really like to get this resource sorted, for as well as being my oldest resource, it is the Bible that I use for citations and calls to worship in my sermons and the one that I use to compare other translations with.

If think if you delete metadata.db in the Data/{random}/Updates folder, then it will force a fresh metadata update.

If the metadata is entirely corrupted, that might not work. If if doesn't, delete catalog.db in the LibraryCatalog folder, and metadata.db. Rebuilding your catalog takes several minutes on restart.

Look in your .../ResourceManager/Downloaded folder, but also check if the files reside elsewhere on your drive.

Alan, the LbxBooks FTP repository contains an ANIV.lbxlls file (ftp://ftp.logos.com/LbxBooks/ANIV.lbxlls). I would try removing the ANIV from your library again then download this file and scan it into your library. If the lbxlls file scans in correctly maybe then the resource will update to the Logos4 file.

I saw Bradley Grainger responded to this thread. Apart from that have you contacted Faithlife for support on this?

I hesitate to suggest that the ANIV.Logos4 file could be sent to you by someone.

OT: What vintage MacBook Air do you have? I am considering Mavericks or Yosemite and have been warned that my hardware will underperform.

I tend to agree and watched the thread develop along those lines.

It seemed odd to me though that Alan had the older lls lsf and lix files, odder still that these files are hosted for download to Logos 6.

When I moved to Logos 4 from Libronix I had about two dozen resources for which the lbxlls file type was not publicly available (i.e. they were\are not available for ftp from Logos\Faithlife). When I installed Logos 4 these newer lbxlls files were, mostly, downloaded by default. The ANIV existed as an lbxlls file before Logos 4 was released - I have the ANIV Libronix CD. [*-)]

I would have suggested scanning in the ANIV.Logos4 file directly but that file is not publicly available.

I looked for ANIV to no avail. It is not on my hard drive.

The old ANIV.lix and ANIV.lsf both reappeared after unhiding the resource. But without appearing to download! Where are they coming from?

ANIV thinks it is a monograph and not a Bible. That means that it does not work with CBV and so I can't copy and paste Bible verses for sermons or calls to worship (which I almost always get from Psalms).

I wish I could properly recover the resource. Ah well! It's Saturday evening here now, so it will have to wait until Monday afternoon, when Logos in Bellingham wake up.

The ANIV existed as an lbxlls file before Logos 4 was released - I have the ANIV Libronix CD.

I got it on Logos 1.6, whose disks have long since vanished. I still have my Logos 2 CD and all my Libronix CDs though.

Alan, I called Faithlife and reported your difficulty, referencing this thread.

I also checked my Logos installation and verified that the meta data you are missing - cover image and extra bibliographic information i.e. summary description and citation style - is not available for any resource dependent on the old lsf and lix file pair. This metadata was first included in the Libronix lbxlls files.

It is very odd that you are downloading the old file pair when performing a resource update.

Sorry, I was away yesterday. Trying this morning. There is no difference, ANIV.logos4 does not scan in. I've tried deleting the metadata.db, the catalog.db, even resource manager.db but to no avail. Hiding/Unhiding only restores the coverless, info-less, NIV 84 Anglicised as a Monograph.

Finally success! I dragged the resource's lsf and lix files to the Trash, dragged ANIV.logos4 into Resources folder in Finder, deleted metadata.db and catalog.db and restarted. Went and shaved, came back – and there it was

It's happened again! Blank resource has reappeared. So, here is what I did:

Closed Logos
Checked the Resources folder to find that ANIV.logos4 had disappeared to be replaced by ANIV.lix and ANIV.lsf.
Dragged .lix and .lsf to the Trash and dragged ANIV.logos4 into Resources folder.
Deleted metadata.db and catalog.db and resource manager.db from there folders.
Relaunched Logos.
After an age (presumably rebuilding the deleted .db files) it loaded.
Blank resource (monograph) again!
Closed Logos.
Checked the Resources folder to find that ANIV.logos4 had disappeared to be replaced by ANIV.lix and ANIV.lsf.

How can this happen? How can it be permanently fixed?

Thanks for the suggestion, Dominic. Doubt it because my MBA upgrade perfectly and it, of course, has the NIV Anglicised 84 in the Library. Incidentally, it is ANIV.logos4. Time machine runs on that machine also. It hasn't tried to change it!

Logos 6 doesn't download LSF or LIX files, so it must be finding them somewhere else on your machine. Find them and delete them.

The old version of the resource is being discovered and copied from /Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS/Resources/. If you delete it from there it will no longer return to your library after rediscovering the .logos4 version of the file. Based on your screen shot and logs, the older version of the resource keeps replacing the .logos4 version because the old version reports that it was last (will be [;)]) updated in the year 2349, quite a few centuries after the .logos4 version was updated in 2013.

I deleted the folder and tried again. From somewhere it imported the old .lix and .lsf version again!

Scan Optical Media doesn't seem to work. It won't detect or download ANIV.logos4. Perhaps that is because, when I open Logos it imports the ANIV.lix and ANIV.lsf from somewhere.

If you delete the file and let the indexer update resources again, look for a line in the Indexer.log that references ANIV.LSF that will indicate where the file is being scanned from. Look for something similar to this line from the previous logs that you sent tech support:

12/10/2014 15:04:40 | INFO | 7 | ResourceManager | Found new/updated resource 'LLS:1.0.11' version 2349-03-21T00:00:07Z at '/Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS/Resources/ANIV.LSF'.

I did as you suggested and found the following lines in the Indexer:

As you can see from the screenshot the folder '/Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS/Resources/' does not exist on this computer.

I deleted it earlier today! Yet somehow it is still being found! Deleted the ANIV.lix and ANIV.lsf yet again.

I'll try restarting the computer.

Your screenshot shows ~/Library/Application Support, the logs are referring to /Library/Application Support/Libronix DLS/Resources/, which are not the same folders. If you delete the Libronix DLS folder out or /Library/Application Support, it should fix your issue.

Alan, it's your root folder. Click on Macintosh HD in the finder, and you should see folders like—Applications, Library, System, and Users. Click on the Library and navigate to the folder.
