First, I like the new blue scrollbars! So much easier to see and ads some pop to the overall look!
The release notes say this is a work in progress, but so far I like the progress in Biblical People! Nice job guys!
Thanks Joe for the screen short.
Ted
this is quite clever too, many questions wont make it to the forum because of this...
Ted, you are welcome. Here is one more that hopefully will persuade you to go Mac and never look back :-) Bible Word Study is coming along nicely.
Felipe, I agree the new wording of that message should help out.
Blessings
Never really understood the little graph on the top right. I have looked at the video - I still don't understand :-)
A bear of little Brain
It tells you the relative number of hits in each book of the bible. Hold you cursor over one of the bars.
Thank you kind Sir.
Now make me feel really silly and tell me that that hovering business worked in 1.2.2. :-)
But really...
Thanks for your help
Mike
Huh, mine crashes immediately every time I try to run Biblical People. Are you doing it from the tools menu?
Overall this alpha seems a little less stable than 8. Can still see progress which is great. Can't wait for it to get fleshed out a bit more so I can get out of Parallels.

Robert,
Have you run "Update resources" from the command bar yet? I had this problem when we were working on A9 because I didn't have all the correct resources for accessing Biblical People.
See Joe Miller's post here: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/8176/66988.aspx#66988 for how to access update resources.

I am also crashing when trying to open "Biblical People". I'll run an update resources and post back. I'll also give it another try early AM should I crash again to see if Joe's date suggestion could be my problem as well.
Really am loving what the Mac development team is doing. Keep up the great work.
Mark

I am definitely getting another download after doing that. It looks like the same size as I got yesterday. Will it need to index again? I do note the indexer was implemented with an advanced "under promise - over deliver" algorithm. LOL. It told me 25 hours at one point yesterday evening but was done when I woke up. I am not sure it completed correctly though. I will hit the logs this time if things aren't working. It is really good to see progress on each of these builds. It is almost an addiction checking for the updated alpha on Wed. or Thurs. Sort of a little mini-Christmas when it comes out.
Okay, good news. [:D] After running "Update Resources" and downloading an additional 1.3GB and going through 22 hrs of indexing.... actually it only took a little over an hour I am good to go with "Biblical People". Looking through the logs I also saw this which was encouraging:
2009-12-31 16:43:21.0241 9 Info UpdateManager Checking for resources with 'Unknown' status.
2009-12-31 16:43:21.0354 9 Info UpdateManager Resource 'DB:BIBLICAL-PEOPLE' is up to date.
2009-12-31 16:43:21.0363 9 Info UpdateManager Resource 'DB:BIBLICAL-PLACES' is up to date.
2009-12-31 16:43:21.0363 9 Info UpdateManager Resource 'DB:BIBLICAL-PLACES-MAPS' is up to date.
2009-12-31 16:43:21.0370 9 Info UpdateManager Resource 'DB:BIBLICAL-THINGS' is up to date.
The download added 13 new resources. Thanks for the advice on "Update Resources".

Note: I did not originate that abbreviation, but I do like to use it.
Confirmed.I can now see Biblical People. It is good to see these major UI pieces coming together. Can I request what I hope is a simple one? On the Windoze version of the Passage Guide clicking on the Bible reference verse in the top disclosure area (where you can enter comments and tags) launches your default Bible to that verse. On the Mac side it discloses the section. Having that jump would be nice if it is easy to do.
How far are your current builds ahead of the Alpha releases? Do you queue up releases for QA or is it just the next release that is being worked on?
At the moment of its release, the build shipped as Alpha 9 was less than an hour old. With the Mac alphas, we've been fairly aggressive about releasing features as rapidly as they are useful/testable. However, as the surface area of the app increases, the release process will necessarily include more extensive QA and regression testing prior to release. After the new year, I expect the pace of releases settle down to a roughly fortnightly schedule similar to the one we used during the Windows beta.

Help me understand what that means please? Im not real clear on this!

Letme translate: as the application is getting bigger and more complicated, testing (andquality assurance) takes longer. The releases should be about everytwo weeks after the year begins.
Got It! I know what fortnightly means, he was saying "that as the surface apps increase" I wasn't clear on that. And we've been getting the updates every 2 weeks haven't we???
That is my experience too. If your unit testing is super tight the QA process can be fast but my Mac programming experience left me underwhelmed by the testing facilities. Big applications have lots of inter-related systems and multiple paths to execute a given function. The law of unintended consequences plays out fiercely as they grow. What Logos is doing here is a pretty effective way of testing. Letting limited releases into the wild exposes the application to way more variety of use than any suite of internally written test cases or internal QA team.

Read "surface area" as the amount of application that is exposed to the user. There is surely a lot going on behind the scenes right now and probably a fair amount of semi-working and working code that is not hooked up for us to use. As more gets hooked up and the complicated interface elements get put together it takes more time to test and release.
We have gotten weekly releases quite a few times. I enjoy that and will miss it when it goes away.
Quality Assurance and testing.....isn't that what they have us for? [:D]
Hey Joe
Are you running a pc program on your mac? If you are which one

Joe, Thanks for the screen shots. I'm curious about the 'cover images' for the Net Bible and Word Biblical Commentary resources in this shot. Why are those showing up? I have zero 'cover images' for my resources. Thanks. Mark
I have no explanation Mark.
Hey Joe, would you be kind enough as to explain what the section in your pix "mytag Exegetical" is for? I do not understand what benefit or use this is for. I have also left you a thank you on the other thread for your timely intervention.
I just don't get this "my tag Exegetical" section. Thanks in advance for the explanation.
fortnightly
= twoweeks (Fortnight, English/British word)
I picked up on that and I was delighted to see an "international feel" to the forum!
Glad to see that Media Resources is now working in the Passage Guide [Y]
