A Shameful Christmas Story . . .

Not very favorable to "Saint" Joseph!

Well, not to get into arguments but to encourage using 'Logos', the Matthew writer defines Joseph as 'righteous' .... not 'decent'. Decent sounds pretty modern.
Under the guidance of the law, Joseph was pretty far out on a legal limb. The curiousity was the Holy Spirit stepping in, placing the law as secondary, before Jesus' birth.

Thanks for that insight, Denise. "Righteous" is often used in a somewhat nebulous and relative manner applying to strugglers such Zecharias (Luke 1:6) and even Lot (2 Pet. 2:8).

Martin, you're digging yourself in deeper. If I remember right, the one who did indeed was born, used the word, saying he didn't come to save them. I'd assume he probably knew who they were (vs it being somewhat nebulous). And there might have been another writer who spent a considerable amount of text on being 'righteous'd' (granted another nebulous concept).
Have a good Christmas.

Most reading this section of the forum probably don't read the Verbum Blog but maybe just this one item? Ever ponder what is was like for Joseph and Mary looking for a place to stay?
Even the person that posted the blog, Alex Renn, expresses doubts as to if this was exactly as it happened. But I found it thought provoking and just a good story.

Alex is my esteemed brother--one of many friends I have at Verbum. I enjoy continual interaction with them and frequently shared prayer.
