Resources repeatedly downloading

I (as others have reported) now have Logos (4a SR-2) re-downloading resources every time I start it up. I think it is confused about some Journals that I just loaded last week (can't tell that they have already been loaded ?). Here are two sets of log files, of two sessions, one run after the other.

It appears you have the resources but the dowload manager isn't sure!

Close L4 and the Indexer.

Delete:

any resources in C:\Users\Jeff\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\sujgsm0j.w3o\ResourceManager\Downloaded
...\Logos4\Data\sujgsm0j.w3o\DownloadManager\DownloadManager.db
...\Logos4\Data\sujgsm0j.w3o\UpdateManager\Updates.db
any resources in ...\Logos4\Data\sujgsm0j.w3o\UpdateManager\Resources

Start L4.

Thanks Dave. I did this, and it went through a couple of cycles (checking for resources - downloading resources - restart) until I think it ended up in the same endless loop as before. I have automatic updates disabled now, but I won't be able to get normal updates without getting this set of resources over again every time. I'll add some log files that I kept copying after every step I did.

It may have something to do with log messages like this:

But when it seems totally stuck, it also logs different messages about those same Journals like :

I like "has been Failed" (it makes it look translated)

Since it's late, I think I'll try the deletes again, set the program to automatic updates, then let it run all night and see what happens.

Anyway, is there anything else to try?

I tried this again today. WIth automatic updates disabled, I

(1) Delete files as specified (only .db files were there)

(2) Start Logos - it says its looking for updates

(3) Indexer says to restart Logos to install updates

(4) Exit Logos (indexer still up)

(5) Saved log file:

8420.Logs 20100102 1528.zip

(6) Restart Logos (takes a while, and indexer says its downloading 200MB or so)

(7) Copied final log files (Logos still running)

3554.Logs 20100102 1539.zip

Would it be worth deleting that resource (Bib. Sac. Journal volumes 1-90)?

Hi Jeffrey, I noticed this with my updates also. Logos downloader is also downloading my bibliotheca sacra vol 1-90 even though I already have them in my library. It has not finished yet because my download is roughly 2.1gb and I'm on a very slow connection at the moment (probably for the next few weeks also).

I already said in another thread that even though it hasn't finished yet I already know that I'm heading for some problems here with the journals because the ones that I have at the moment are newer then the ones that are being downloaded. My thought about this is that the new ones will probably not be replaced by the downloaded ones and will go into a loop.

I have the new journals in my L3 and L4 folders. So if I delete them I will have to delete them from both folders otherwise the next time I start a "scan" it will grab them back from the L3 folder.

If you have L3 also with those journals you will probably have to move them out from both L3 and L4 if you want to fix your problem. I can't guarantee it will work because I haven't tried it yet. It's only my preparation theory for what will be coming to me in the next few days after the downloads finish.

I'd like you to:

rename .Logos4\Data\sujgsm0j.w3o\ResourceManager\ResourceManager.db (you will lose Hidden Resources, hence rename)
delete ...Logos4\Data\sujgsm0j.w3o\UpdateManager\Updates.db
delete Bib. Sac. Journal volumes 1-90 (to Recycle bin if you have space on HDD)
temporarily rename your L3 resource folder (if any)
Start L4

A realtively horrible remedy, since it is now downloading 19.84 GB. What's up with that? This is precisely the thing I wanted to avoid.

Was this what was intended? Did I get this by renaming the resourcemanager.db file?

I tried renaming the resourcemanager.db file back again. No luck. It still wants to download 20GB (probably all the resources I have), even though fully up to date resources are sitting on the disk. This is exactly what should never happen, since this would render the program needlessly unusable for many many hours.

This is extremely disappointing (and much worse than before, since I could get by with pointless 200MB downloads). As it stands now, I think I will stop using the program and either wait for more advice, or revert to a saved version of program and indexes from another machine.

Sorry for all the freaking out and complaining. By following the original delete instructions, I got back to what seems like "normal". I also deleted the Bibliotheca Sacra 1-90 volumes resource from both v4 & v3 resources (they still show in Logos4 but with "resource missing" when I attempt to access them). I also renamed the Logos 3 resource directory, then (after starting up Logos 4) renamed it back.

Now, Logos 4 seems to start up OK again (and no 200MB download, let alone 20GB). I still have automatic updates off, and haven't tried "update now". But I'm pretty happy Logos 4 runs (and I think I have all my resources, though it's not that easy to tell).

By the way, in spite of all the difficulty over this one issue, and some experience of other known bugs (such as Bible Word Study from pointed Hebrew texts), Logos 4 is pretty awesome. The program runs well on a relatively light weight machine (Sony Vaio VGN-Z690, Windows 7, 4GB). I think Logos 4 will be an evolutionary step (so to speak) in the process of serendipitous discovery in the study of Scripture. [:)]

I had the same problem with journal files in a continuous download loop. My temporary solution was to move the folder in 3 that had all my lbxlls files to another position and then rerun logos4 and download again. Once that is done then Logos4 is happy. However do not let Logos3 discover those files as this will start the whole process over again.

There is obviously a problem with the journal files! Hopefully this will be sorted our soon!

A couple of restarts is often needed to confirm deleted resources -- but are you are saying that they have not been replaced by an L4 download?
