SBL Hebrew in MSWord on Mac OS X ?

I am running Logos 6 on Mac OS X and have no trouble viewing SBL Hebrew inside Logos. When I paste a Hebrew verse into Word the Hebrew characters show up in Times New Roman. The SBL Hebrew Font is not in the Font list and when I download and install it via the Font Book it still does not show up.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Dan

Not sure what might cause the problem. There is a font cache that you can clear using Onyx. That might help. Word loads fonts when it starts. Try restarting Word.

I've run into the same problem with Asian fonts.  The problem is because the font(s) are not compatible with MS Office and therefore will not load in the Microsoft Font folder even though they show up in the main system font folder.  Mac Office Word has several difficulties with fonts: No RTL placement for Hebrew or Arabic and limited font compatibility.  Hopefully both of these will be resolved later this year when Microsoft releases Mac Office 2015.

thanks guys. that explains why the font doesn't show up in Word. Is there an alternative? The situation I have is that the Hebrew font I pasted from Logos into word looks fine on my MAC but when I send my .docx file to someone else who I think is using a windows system the font isn't rendering correctly.

Have you run into this and if so, how do you handle it?

    Thanks!

Other people need to have the same fonts that work for you. You can consider making a PDF file if they don't.

Mellel is the gold standard word processor for multilingual work on the Mac. It doesn't yet have a docx export. There are other word processors as well. You might want to download LibreOffice and see if that works since it does save to docx if you want.

The problems with Hebrew and Word on the Mac has been there for ages. I wish I knew when or if they will ever get right.

yes, I think I will take the pdf route in the near term. I will also check out Mellel

    Thanks!

    Is there an alternative?

Libreoffice has complex text layout, which is useful with Hebrew => http://community.logos.com/forums/p/38979/291317.aspx#291317

    Is there an alternative?

Ezra SIL is a viable alternative. That is the Hebrew font I use in both Logos and MS Word. Don't remember where I got it, but it was free. A Google search should find the source.
