Issues with latest update

I just installed the latest proclaim update before our service this morning - bad mistake.

A bit of background - we were one of the early users who had issues with the hardware acceleration and have had to run proclaim with hardware acceleration disabled for at least 6 months now which has meant that our presentations have been sub par with transitions and video rendering. We've been assured that the issue is being worked on and a solution is just around the corner, however nothing has happened and it is now getting beyond ridiculous.

To add to the issue of sub par performance, the latest update seems to have further reduced the performance of video rendering and transitions when we go "on-air". Video backgrounds have had severe lag and some transitions just seem to disappear. It seems that it is only when going "on-air" as when i just preview the slides, the video backgrounds play as they have been (still not as good as it should be), but when we go on air the backgrounds lag and transitions seem to disappear.

We have also found that an extra blank slide has somehow been added to a lot of our songs - not sure why this has suddenly happened.

At this stage we are looking at leaving proclaim as we just cannot keep having these issues.

Last weeks update should not have changed anything related to video playback. The process should be running as 64 bit if your machine allows it but that is the only major change. You can uninstall this version and reinstall the old version available here if it performs better for you.

We have also found that an extra blank slide has somehow been added to a lot of our songs - not sure why this has suddenly happened.

Can you provide a specific example? A screen shot or pasting in the song lyrics would help us diagnose.

I had the same blank slide issue today with one song. I can't seem to attach the screen shot I took to this post, I don't know why. But in the slide order at the bottom, there was a blank slide inserted after the bridge but before the final chorus, but in the lyrics input box there is no cue to indicate putting a blank slide there.

I am also having problems, running in Windows 8.1. Took an hour to finally get Proclaim to open this morning. The screen hangs on the update and then everything stops. Rebooting did not help. I finally uninstalled and then reinstalled Proclaim. Multiple blank slides in the songs. Slow transitions. I guess I was relieved it opened, but it was not good. I had the same problem on Wednesday when I built the slideshow. Reinstalling is all I can do. New machine - i7 chip, 4GB video card and 16GB RAM in the computer. Please look into this. Hanging on a Sunday morning when I also am the keyboard player and choir director...I do not have time for this!

Hi Scott.

I keep reading that the latest update have no impact w/ video playback. We updated Proclaim (for Windows) on Sunday Morning and it was the big mistake.

We have a big event for Easter and did a pre-dress rehearsal and the proclaim just unresponsive, crashing and doing a lot of weird stuffs.

Up to a point where we tried to add new video and it gave us an error saying that the video was not supported.

We went back few versions and everything went back to normal. I just hope everything will be OK for this weekend.

After reading the forums, i'm quite sure that the update has issue w/ hardware acceleration, windows 7 and certain graphic cards. Is there any way for you guys to test the release better?

We can't afford having this issue when an update comes up and risk the Sunday Service flow because of this.

Thoughts?

Found the blank slide issue. A bug in Proclaim causes any whitespace below the last verse in song lyrics to create an empty slide. If your song lyrics do not include an empty line beneath the last verse you will not see the blank slide. We'll get a fix for this out asap.

We're planning to ship an update today to fix the blank song slide issue as well as a few other 64 bit related issues. There aren't any video player or transition related changes in the update, nor were there in the previous update. It's possible that the video playback issue you were experiencing is worse in a 64 bit process but I can't see why.

Moving to 64 bit was a big deal for Proclaim with respect to stability. Proclaim uses a lot of memory allocating and deallocating high resolution images and the virtual address space available (independent of hardware) in a 32 bit process was limiting. On slower machines we could run out memory and crash when rapidly scrolling through slides.

The video playback issue present on some Windows machines is next on our list of long standing issues affecting a small subset of users. We spent a couple weeks working on it this month but got distracted with the recent update. We'll get back to it right away.

The older version will still be available if the current update does not resolve the issue you're experiencing. Thanks for your patience.

Quick note...I had the same "blank slide" issue, but with a twist. I found that Proclaim was somehow adding a blank line at the START of the song, creating a sequence that was like this: Title slide > blank slide > First lyrics slides....

Hope this new release fixed that as well, as my issue was not at the end of the song, but at the beginning.
