Deleted Personal Books still in Library

Hi,
a while ago I played with the Personal Book Builder and created a few PBB's for testing purposes. I made a lot of mistakes and created quite a number of useless PBB's. I deleted them from the Personal Book Builder menu.
I just discovered that these books still show up under my library, although they are no longer available under my Personal Book Builder Tool. How can I remove them from my Library?
Thanks

I believe that, like all other resources, you must "hide" the books to get rid of them. It is my understanding that the personal book builder tool is used to create personal books, not to manage them.

Thanks. Would have preferred if you could completely delete them.

Hiding them does delete them. The "hiding" terminology is a misnomer. Any book that is hidden is removed from the disk. Purchased books can be restored using the Hidden Resources section of the Program Settings window. Personal Books must be recompiled after hiding if you want to restore them---they do not appear in the Hidden Resources list.
Edit: I was wrong about the marked out section above. That's how it should work. How it does work is described by Don below.

If you remove them from the Personal Book pane, then Hide them, restart, unhide them, then restart, they are gone for good. And, you don't have a bunch of unnecessary books piling up in your hidden books pane.
This has been known ever since PBs came out - it's amazing Logos has never fixed this.

I think the unhiding is the problem. If you delete the book it should be deleted. I hate the hiding methodology. Inefficient and doesn't make much sense....

Agree. Also, "hiding" is a misnomer. The user is ARCHIVING the resource as the license is maintained.

Agreed. There should simply be a "remove from device" option for Logos books, and an additional option of "delete" for personal books.

It makes sense when you consider the deleting of the book from the license server takes the same effort as transferring a book license.

I didn't realize the time factor. If that is the case I totally understand why there is only the hiding option.

It would have been nice to have had a warning about deleting uploaded books. I started out by experimenting with creating Personal Books. Like others, I uploaded several test books before I found out they could not be deleted. If only I had been content to leave it on my local machine.

Oh Man, I hope they are working on fixing this issue. I deleted a personal book that was tagged horribly now I guess it permanent in my library? Do we have to call technical service to have this removed? As any one got a hold on this?

Did you realize that you can fix the tags in your personal book and then rebuild it with the corrections? Also, when you hide the book you will not see it again in your library unless you unhide it.

Hi Bruce
I can't even edit the personal book because it longer exist on my "Personal Books" settings. I deleted the PB from within but it continues to show up in my Logos Library every time I log back into the logos server. In the meantime I have to hide it. That is the only solution.

Hi David,
I think you can delete notes in your account page in the Logos website. Look to the far left and click on the link "My Documents".

Henry, let me take a few minutes to try to see if we are talking about the same thing. First, you actually can't "delete" a book. You can "hide" it but not "delete" it. I assume that is what you did. Read here for more information on how this works - http://wiki.logos.com/Hiding_Books This will explain things in detail.
If you hid the book you are referring to you would not be able to edit it unless you chose to "unhide" the book. At that time you would be able to edit it as you wished.
Let me know if this helps or if you need some more clarification.

Hi Bruce,
It was actually a personal book I deleted from my Personal Book Library. After the book was built and tagged, I noticed that the book wasn't tagged correctly so I deleted it. However, the personal book remained in my Logos library where all my other purchases are located. Essentially the only thing I can do is hide it. So I'm hiding a personal book and thus when I unhide it will appear again in my Logos Library but not in my Personal Book Library. I think somehow it cling onto the server. Because It won't download when I'm off line but immediately when I'm online the book will automatically be downloaded into my Logos Library. I hope I'm making sense. Below you will see the Personal Book I tried to create by Dr. J. Vernon McGee that is stuck in my Logos Library but is no longer in my Personal Books Library.

For clarification: The book is shown in your Library, but not in your Personal Book Builder Tool. The PBB Tool is where you create personal books. There isn't anything called a "personal book library."
Henry Esqueda said:After the book was built and tagged, I noticed that the book wasn't tagged correctly so I deleted it.
Out of curiosity, what do you mean that it "wasn't tagged correctly"?

Until more recently, only metadata (book name, author, etc.) synced with the server, but in recent versions users can now sync compiled personal books. This is done manually AFTER the book is compiled. Did you manually sync the personal book?
What happens when you try to open this resource? Does a book open, or do you get a warning?
Did you hide the book and restart your computer before unhiding?
Why are you unhiding the book if you want it deleted?

After the book was built it didn't link some verses. The text when converted was not spaced properly.

I'm taking it that's what happen. I think I clicked on the "Upload" link on the Personal Book Builder Tool. Is this what you mean by "manually sync"? If by clicking this does my personal books go into my library on the Logos server?
alabama24 said:What happens when you try to open this resource? Does a book open, or do you get a warning?

The resource will open as a normal book if unhidden. I hid the book and restarted and tried every little trick I could.

I want to delete from my Library but I cant. It's no longer showing in my Personal Books.

The personal book builder typically works well when given a good source document. If the reference is explicit (i.e. "John 3:16"), it almost always works. When the reference is less explicit (i.e. "In verse 16 of the third chapter of the beloved disciple"), the link isn't going to work.Henry Esqueda said:After the book was built it didn't link some verses. Yes.Henry Esqueda said:I think I clicked on the "Upload" link on the Personal Book Builder Tool. Is this what you mean by "manually sync"?
When you compile the .docx file, it is added to your library on the local computer. When you press the "upload" button, it will sync with the servers so that the book is available on your other computers. If you only have one computer, there is no reason to press the "upload" button. NOTE: personal books are unsupported on mobile devices.Henry Esqueda said:If by clicking this does my personal books go into my library on the Logos server?
The book IS "deleted" from your library when you hide it... it is NOT deleted from the servers. EDIT: The same is true when users delete note files. The "deleted" files remain on the servers, but are only shown in the "deleted" view of the website.Henry Esqueda said:alabama24 said:Why are you unhiding the book if you want it deleted?

So once it's in the server any deleting has to be done on the Logos side I take it. I didn't know that was going to happen. ouch!
Do you know if a representative can delete the personal book from my account?

As far as I know, Faithlife hasn't addressed this issue... I think you are likely stuck... although I don't know why it should be such an issue. If you have the book hidden, it is removed from your local installation and shouldn't appear in any other installations.
FL probably does need to create a method for users to delete uploaded resources from the servers.

My question is related tp deleting personal books
Is there any new development in this area? I am trying to delete duplicate copies of personal books that I have created. As I was amending the books I created, I usually delete the previous books before I compile the new ones within the environment of the personal book builder page. However, I discovered that the books that I deleted are still there. Deleting from wthin the persoanl book envirnomnet does not get rid of them. This week a friend who is a Logs user advised me to delete them using the setting from the tools menu. I did try to drag them to the hide the resource box and delete them from there using a right muse click. This did not work for me. In my PC I see the two options when I click the right muse. The hnuid and delete options are avaialabel. But I do not see the delete option in my iMac computer. Is there any advice you can suggest? Or do I need to wait for a better solution from Logos or is there a solution for this? Thank you

Hello all,
Any new news on this topic? I have (4) old Personal Books that still show up after deleting then from PBB. They still show in my resources. I just want them gone.
I've tried the tricks on this thread and nothing works.

Hello Dave,
I tried this: "If you remove them from the Personal Book pane, then Hide them, restart, unhide them, then restart, they are gone for good. And, you don't have a bunch of unnecessary books piling up in your hidden books pane."
I deleted the PBB long ago but the files still remain. They are hidden because I don't want to see them but I'd like to permanantely delete them.
I even found the physical files in:
Library > Application Support > Logos4 > Data > ResourceManager > Resources
then deleted them but they come back upon reboot.
HELP!

Files aren't removed unless you run a special command (I forget what it is... "removed unlicensed resources" or something like that).

As you uploaded them to the cloud you must keep them hidden. They will be re-downloaded when you unhide them or manually delete them.
"delete unlicensed resources" does not work with PB's.

What do you mean by "or manually delete them"?
Also, are you saying since they are on the cloud they cannot be deleted ever?

Yes, that is what he meant.
Gavin Murphy said:What do you mean by "or manually delete them"?
If you manually delete the compiled file from the inner workings (system files), the file will automatically re-download.
The only option you have left (currently) would be to try rebuilding the book and changing things to a book you do want to keep. That may not be an option, however, if you deleted the personal book builder project.

They are automatically deleted from your computer when you hide them but will remain on the cloud. So keep them hidden.

Deleting the physical files in the Logos4 > Data > ResourceManager > Resources folder as you stated earlier is manual.

I agree, but for clarification: It is a technical issue. If you had not uploaded them to the cloud, you would be able to permanently delete them. As is, the issue relates to the inability to permanently delete documents from the web. Presumably this relates to backup protocols so users don't lose data.

One of the reasons I believe 'deleted' notes are not permanently deleted is so they can be recovered. While I understand there are instances you may want to permanently delete a note file, I understand from the support cost point of view of FL why notes are not permanently deleted and I am happy with this scenario. If the option to permanently delete notes was introduced it should be a multiple step process to be able to do so. From a synchronisation point of view I also understand why FL does not currently allow permanent deletion and I appreciate what synchronisation offers, even with its limits of a one size fits all solution.
