Looking at Amazon it received very nice reviews. The only negative reviews centered around the binding of the physical book and not the content. I am going to get this for me.

It is hard to determine exactly what content the volume has. It appears from the Amazon reviews that it parses every verb in the OT and may also list every form a particular verb takes. If that's the case you probably already have that functionality in Logos.

    • Parse every verb: Any reverse interlinear Bible, Exegetical Guide
    • Show a verb in all conjugations: Morphology Charts tool

If that's all the book contains then Logos 6 makes it redundant. If the product description were more clear we'd have a better idea.

NB Mick is having problems with the resource crashing Logos.

Since .99 is a steal, I bought it - but: this is very blurry pictures of the parsing, barely legible and not linked to anywhere, with no milestones.

The file is extremely large 160MB (in fact it once crashed my machine just scrolling in it).

I don't think it gives any much benefit over an interlinear - "you get what you pay for".

I bought it but will ask for a refund. I was fooled by the much better looking sample on amazon, but the vyrso version almost looks like a cheap photocopies job with no special functionality. I don't care how much it sells for, personally I don't want to see FL distribute material in such a raw format. This is bad. I need to know that I can expect a minimum standard of quality on the finished product when I buy from FL. [N]

This is exactly how it looks (pictures in the middle of the screen, the only navigational links are in the table of contents, such as "Genesis page, Exodus page, etc" that is, to see the parsing in Genesis 25:1 you have to scroll down there to find it):

This thread would fit better in the Vyrso forum... where the problems mentioned above may come to the attention of Faithlife.

This appears to be from the work originally published by Moody in multiple volumes. For 99 cents it's ok, but the least they can do is stick real links to the beginning of each book in the table of contents. Would be nicer if the resolution was better too, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Doesn't anybody at least check that the table of contents works?

    No, at least formerly.

Not for Vyrso books, unless users specifically complain about it (we're their QA department for Vyrso books). The margin is so low on Vyrso titles -- like pennies -- and the number of them coming through the pipeline each year so high that they can't afford the time or resources to do anything but automated conversion of the digital texts they receive from the publishers. That means absolutely NO manual intervention or even a once-over review unless problems are pointed out by users.

I understand the pipeline deal but it does cheapen vyrso, in my view. I guess one must always be ready to return a book if the quality is too dismal. But indeed, if vyrso just distributes the books "as is" without much processing, they need to tell distributors that the pipeline must not be a garbage chute.

I jumped at this because I have the print edition.

But it is indeed pretty useless the way it is as a Vyrso book. It's the kind of thing that ought to be made into a Logos edition with all the proper tagging. This thing with images of pages is junk. You can't even select and copy text from it.

    Agreed!

    I feel like I just wasted $0.99.

Even though it is only 0.99 I still asked and obtained a refund. Why keep a book in my library that I am not going to use?

    junk quality from logos

I like the helpful mike (i.e. giving us a list of good recent purchases) more than the grumpy one. [;)]

Again, this isn't a "logos" issue... but I agree that FL probably shouldn't be selling it... even for .99¢

    Hi everyone,

I apologize for the poor quality with this resource. As was said previously in this thread, when converting epub files to Vyrso ebooks, it's all an automatic process, pulling right from what publishers send us. Unfortunately, if the images are blurry on a page from the epub file from the publisher, that gets translated into the Vyrso ebook.

With that context in mind, I've forwarded this issue on to the right point people to see what we can do about this specific product or if we can try to get a better epub file from the publisher. I'll keep you updated with what I find out.

Thanks for your patience, and, again, so sorry for any inconvenience this has caused!

Thanks, Erin, for looking into this.

There are several concerns with the resource: (1) its raw format appearance (compare with the preview on amazon for a clean, sharp appearance); (2) the fact that it is in picture format, not text (even though the content is text), therefore individual entries cannot be selected, copied or manipulated via the context menu and it cannot be searched via basic search; (3) considering its size, the very rudimentary functionality (finding an entry in the  middle of a book means scrolling to it either from the beginning or the end of it). Really what it would need is to be like a Bible (ie, enter Gen 12:25 in the box and it takes you there).

I realize that (3) is the least likely of the three to be fixed, but (1) and (2) should be easier to fix and is the least that should be done.

    Hi everyone,

After consulting with our content production team, we have retired this resource from Vyrso and will issue refunds to those who have purchased this product.

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience this title has caused!

I got this email today from Logos Support:

"Thank you for your recent order for The Old Testament Parsing Guide. This resource didn’t meet our strict quality guidelines and was inadvertently made available for sale. A refund has been submitted for this order and will appear in your account within the next 7-10 days."

Good on you guys (and gals) for taking responsibility and making it right. I'm glad to get my $0.99 back.

But it's a useful book and I hope you eventually make it available again as a Logos resource (it never belonged in Vyrso format anyway, even a cleaned-up text-based version of it).

So when the book is retired, do I need to delete it from my hard drive? Or will it automatically go away, like when I hide a resource?

  • JT (alabama24)

It depends. It <may> be that they allow you to keep the resource. In which case it will stay. If you want to delete it, you can "hide" it. If they do take away the license, then as of 6.4 (currently in beta), the resource will automatically be deleted.

It would be good if they decide to reissue with better printing. The whole idea of the reprint from the original was with the vowel points. Absurd pricing now on Amazon for it.

They did take the licence away and thus the book is no longer listed in the library - however, to delete the 160MB resource file, one needs to actively issue the new-as-of-6.4-latest-beta command "delete unlicensed resources".

Not or. Unless Logos were to change the design of this, one needs to actively issue the command (i.e. the 160mb file won't go away automatically "by itself" as the license does). Those on the latest beta release may do so today, others after they get the 6.4 stable release.

I don't advise switching to the beta just to win these couple of MB for such few days - and the developers are still fixing bugs in this command.

Is this the file? 9781433671296.logos4 with a size of 162MB and a date/time of 6/16/15 11:30. If so I will delete it manually.

How can I delete it from my Android device? The resource keeps showing in my library.

  • Francis
    Francis Member Posts: 3,807

Did you download it to your android device? If yes, just press on the info button and then hit remove. If no, does it show in your desktop application? If yes, place it in your hidden resources. It will remove the local file and when you sync, it should normally do the same for your android device.

No, and no. Therefore, unfortunately no solution. ..
