Formatting styles in PBs

I noticed that formatted text in the DOCX, such as bold and italic text does not get carried over when compiling as a PB. Is there any way this can be done?

Hm. My experience is it does get carried over (unless there's a bug in a new version). Can you share the file you're working on?

My experience is inconsistent and I had been meaning to ask about it but keep forgetting.  Sometimes the books are perfectly formatted in word and yet don't compile with active ToCs in Logos. I have tried (with mixed results) just copying the word document and repasting in a blank one and rebuilding, but sometimes it just flat out does want to work right.

Sharing the file wouldn't help you as it is in a script you probably can't read. You would not be able to distinguish between italic and non-italic text. However, the PB is a Bible and the italic text is a on the verse level, but only part of the verse (quotations).

Do you use Times New Romans 12 pt as the normal font in Word (hoping that this very versatile Unicode font supports the script of the language you are using)?

Hmm, this could very well be a font issue. No, Times New Romans has no Thai letters on the Windows side. The thing is, I prepare the DOCX on the Windows platform since I use MSWord (and Windows handles Thai better). But then my Logos is installed on a Mac. So one warning that I often get is an invalid font, since the font used doesn't exist for Mac. So it exchanges it to Times New Romans which seems to handle Thai on a Mac side.

I tried to open the DOCX in LibreOffice on the Mac. When I select the text that should be italic it recognizes it as italic (the italic button is gray) but the font is not italic. I changed the font to a few that I know have Thai, but it never showed up italic.

I guess I have to find out what font on the Mac handles Thai italic.

    JT:

You might want to check the docx to make sure your Heading x styles are also being applied to the paragraph mark. If not, it will look just fine in Word, and will even be part of the Word TOC field when created. But my experience is that those won't produce a Logos TOC entry.

Also, if you've converted the docx from another format and Word likes the TOC headings, but Logos doesn't, check to see if the paragraph marks are in a different font that the line; that will mess up the PB TOC, too.

    James:

the most easy way to do this is using the Outline View (assuming this will still be present in Word 2013 as it is in the older versions I know). This view should represent the ToC structure you want to see in the PB - all the headings in their proper places and no empty paragraphs in the structure.

    Hope this helps,
