Slides going crazy!!!

Hello,

I'm in my trial period with Proclaim. I love the simplicity of building the service as I study, etc.

However, in the middle of our Sunday song service, during a song, Proclaim went nuts. It wouldn't advance to the next slide in a song and then all of the sudden started scrolling through the slides on its own.

When I attempted to go up to the top menu bar on our Mac the top menu bar items started highlighting from left to right uncontrollably for about ten seconds.

Once that stopped, I went "Off air" and back "On Air" only to have it all happen again. Finally it quit and we were able to finish the service.

Talk about embarassing and inconvenient. Is this a known bug? Why would Proclaim do this?

I'm on the latest version of El Captian on a Mac and the latest version of Proclaim.

Hi, Kent. I'm sorry about the (rather bizarre) experience you had with Proclaim on Sunday. Usually when something unexpected happens in Proclaim, it greatly helps us to troubleshoot it if you can grab the Proclaim log file immediately afterward (it is rewritten every time the program starts). Directions for locating your log files can be found here:

The situation you describe is not a known issue currently. My best guess is that something caused the program to hang and when you attempted to navigate the slides the commands got queued and released all at once when the program ceased to hang.

Were you able to reproduce this problem with Proclaim after the fact? If so, I'd be happy to look at your log and see why this occurs.

The problem happened to us in rehearsal Saturday night. I hoped it was a one time issue, but it happened again during the second or third worship song. I've shut down the program since,so, the log will not be available.

I will have to hope I can recreate the issue during the week because until I'm sure it won't happen again I can't risk it in the service. It took me a whole song to get it fixed.

We don't have the best internet in our sanctuary but since the presentation was already downloaded Saturday I didn't think that would matter.

Would it be better to shut the internet off on the Mac during the service?

I like Proclaim in the setting up process, but am very afraid of it so far in the presentation during service process. When you have it mess up on Saturday and Sunday...it scares me.

Any help would be great as I love Proclaim with its ease of building a presentation, the media provided and the ease of use. My Volunteer loves the ease of use, also.

We just want it to present cleanly.

I really want this too! I'm one of the Mac dev's here, and so how Proclaim functions on the Mac really matters to me. I was wondering what the specs are on your Mac? Specifically, is this a Mac that has dedicated graphics or does it have onboard Intel graphics?

As Peter mentioned above, does the app appear to freeze before it goes out of control? We have never heard of something like this before, so at this point we are trying to rule out obvious things. If the app freezes and you continue to press buttons, it may skip ahead a bunch (Obviously it shouldn't be freezing either, so that would be another issue).

Another silly thing: Could your keyboard be broken? I have had it where my keyboard's right arrow was mashed down and would sometimes stay stuck. Probably worth a try if you have a different keyboard laying around.

p.s. the internet shouldn't be causing this.

Keyboard is okay, but it was a legitimate concern. It's like the ethernet cable...last thing you check 😀

My volunteer informed that each time it did this (Saturday rehearsal and Sunday morning service) a message appeared in the bottom right hand corner of Proclaim that it was trying to connect to the server...then it froze and flipped out.

M volunteer said that it gave this message quite a few times during the preaching, but because we weren't changing slides we had no problems.

So, it seems that Proclaim may be trying to connect to the cloud and its inability to do so because of our internet issues is causing Proclaim/our Mac mini to give its focus to connecting rather than presenting.

Of course, this is just my opinion and I yield to the expertise of you guys.

I'll have to get back to you on the Mac mini specs because we're unplugged for a while. However, I would venture to say that does not have a dedicated graphics card. It used to be my Mac mini at home.

Please answer if it would be okay to shut off my Wifi on the Mac mini during the service? Or will this cause problems?

If you turn off wifi, Signals and the Remote app will be affected as they are routed through our servers back to the congregation's devices.

My concern and question is...

Web requests will fail but you should not be able to tell. Testing your machine without network is an interesting test case though I wouldn't expect it to be the culprit for the hang, if that's what you're experiencing. Please let us know how it goes!

So, I created an additional Wifi with an Airport Express for the Sanctuary. On Saturday, we did our rehearsal and had no issues. On Sunday, we kept the Wifi "ON" and we had no issues.

My thoughts are that because of the bad Wifi that I had previously Proclaim was searching for the Proclaim server and something got hung up.

Nonetheless, its working and for that I am happy.

Hopefully, it will continue to work flawlessly on Sundays.
