"Copy Bible" in Logos 6 still is not working right

First of all, thank you to all of you who have offered help.  Some of it has already helped.

Here's my problem:  In Logos 6, BHS SESB 2.0 shows up just fine in the left panel, but if I want to copy a portion of the Hebrew text I have brought up in the left panel, the "Copy Bible" divides Hebrew words so that e.g. 3 of the letters of a word are on one line, and the last letter of the word is on the next line.

When I bring up e.g. the previous file I completed, the Hebrew is perfect with the verse numbers on the right side, as they should be, and all the Hebrew is exactly as it should be with no portion of words separated from the whole word.  But when I copy a new text and put it in Microsoft Word 2016, the Hebrew is screwed up (portions of words separated from the whole word, including the soph pasuq at the end of a verse) and the verse numbers are still on the right side, instead of the left.

I even took the previous file, which was done in Microsoft 2013, copied it entirely, opened a blank page in Microsoft 2016, and pasted the previous file, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with the Hebrew.  So now I know it's not a Microsoft 2016 problem.

The problem is with Logos 6.  Now, mind you, the BHS SESB 2.0 still looks fine in the left panel, but the portion of the text that I want to copy and paste in the "Copy Bible" panel on the left is showing e.g. one letter of the Hebrew separated from the whole word on the next line.  I even closed the "Copy Bible" panel, opened again, and the Hebrew still has the same problems.

I installed (I think) all the fonts, etc. that I found on https://www.logos.com/support/logos6/windows/missing-fonts and still the problem exists.  This is a Logos 6 problem, not Microsoft Word 2016 problem (and remember I'm NOT using a Mac, but a PC).

Can anyone help me here?  Is there a file that I didn't download that fixes this problem?  I downloaded all the Hebrew files on the "missing fonts" page--actually ALL the fonts that were presented on that page.

This is very frustrating to me.  It all started because I bought a new Concordia Commentary on John 1:1-7:1 by Dr. William Weinrich, a pastor and professor at our Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod seminary in Fort Wayne, IN (Concordia Theological Seminary--Fort Wayne), and I couldn't download the book because (I was told) I needed Logos 6.  The team at Faithlife (a.k.a. Logos Bible Software--I've been with them since the 1990's) graciously gave me a "Core Engine" (I think that's what it was called) that turned my Logos 5 into Logos 6.

I'm producing notes for mainly pastors of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod for each upcoming Sunday.  Today is The Transfiguration of our Lord, and next Sunday is The First Sunday in Lent.  I'm currently working on the notes for The Second Sunday in Lent, which will be two weeks from today.  The texts I'm using are in Series C, which means the Gospel readings are all from Luke.  If I don't get help soon, this work will stop, and I have 159 people (mainly pastors; I have two women also on my "Master List" who are not pastors, because we believe, teach, and confess that the Bible does not allow women to be Pastors) who depend on these notes.

PLEASE, PLEASE, somebody help me.  I know it's Sunday, but my wife and I are shut-ins and don't go to church on Sundays (at our Pastor's insistence).  I don't know if any of you "out there" are able to read this post, but I do need help.

Pastor, until a font/MS-Word expert shows up, I'll bounce your issue back to the top. Though NB prefers a single thread.

I played with my BHS SESB (mine is 2009). I could re-create the odd behavior but I couldn't see the cause. I didn't see the problem in the CopyBible panel. But when I used Control-C for highlighted text, Word would format wrong in some cases.

I'm confident, an expert will assist. Your work appears to be quite valuable.

Can you post the support information at the bottom of the information panel for the BHS SESB 2.0 you are using? Then I can be sure I'm testing with the same resource you are using. Also what style are you using?

This is what I get using Word 2016

I think your screenshot shows two of the three issues Pastor Dan writes about: wrong font (cut off in your shot, but probaby something looking ugly, like Times New Roman, whatever) and verse numbers to the left. Edit: and I think the third one, broken/too short Hebrew text lines in L6 is not an issue but the standard CBV dipslay in a small tool-tab. /Edit

I tested with my old Word 2007.

Simple copy works best for me: right Hebrew font and verse numbers to the right:

The CBV tool seems to have a bug in that it doesn't give the right font - the verse numbers are correctly placed, though, and one could now simply reassign the Hebrew font - after every paste, or once with a search/replace for Hebrew text, which is auto-detected by Word (2007 at least)

A third way getting text over is the Print/Export feature. This seems to have a different bug in that it places control characters or something like that in front of the font name which thus does not get recognized by Word and substituted by Times New Romans (a fix would be to tell it once to substitute ./#SBLHebrew with SBL Hebrew... - forum user Sascha John had the same issue once lately and showed a screenshot of Word's font substitution table - or the same as above)

So to me it seems CBV tool is buggy in not bringing over the SBL Hebrew font and Print/Export has another (or the same, just materializing differently?) bug in bringing ./#SBL Hebrew intead of SBL Hebrew, but normal Copy (select and Ctrl-C or select, rightclick and hit copy), but all three of them don't misplace verse numbers, which seems to be a Word 2016 issue then - to be checked whether it occurs in all three copy versions.

Edit: as MJ in Word 2016, I didn't see any broken Hebrew words in Word 2007. Note I'm on the 6.10 Beta and used the LLS:1.0.204

Great to hear that! You are very welcome.

For those a bit lost: as Denise indicated, this thread continues a discussion from https://community.logos.com/forums/t/122677.aspx which continued from https://community.logos.com/forums/t/122672.aspx . Dan it's much more helpful if you reply to this post than creating a new thread.

This is just because the standard width of tool-tabs is so small (Information, Power Lookup etc on the right and Reading List, History, etc on the left all are such small tabs). But you can drag them to another place if you wish:

    PLEASE, PLEASE, somebody help me.

The display of CBV in its tab width shouldn't disturb the display in Word. Can you check whether normal Copy/Paste instead of CBV helps? Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing in Word?

  • But I'm using Microsoft Word 2016.  This is a Logos 6 problem, because in Logos 6 the "Copy Bible" splits up Hebrew Words, and when pressing on the "Copy and Paste," in Microsoft Word 2016 not only are Hebrew Words divided up (look at Jeremiah 26:8 in the second line of the Hebrew text where 'el is split up and at the end of v. 9 the soph pasuq is simply a circle with points on the outside), and the verses are all numbered on the left side of the text.  But in Logos 6, in the left panel which is larger the Hebrew text has verses noted on the right side, and no words are split, and the soph pasuq is normal.

I will create cases for these 3 issues. (Related to the post you made in beta https://community.logos.com/forums/t/122703.aspx)
