Why is my lyric text different sizes? And how to fix it?

When I add a song to my presentation, the text on the slides shows up in different sizes, depending on the length of the line.

For example, in the hymn "Glorify His Name" the first three lines on slide one are smaller text because they are longer, but line 4 "Glorify His Name" is HUGE by comparison.

How can I fix this to where the text on one slide is all the same size?  I can't seem to find a setting that affects this.

Thanks!!

Hey, this is to make sure you don't have odd wrapping in your song. Often it looks nicer to shrink part of the text. If you have crazy differences, try addlong some line breaks in your lyrics to break up the long lines, or shrink your font size until all lines are the same. The huge text you see is what your font size is set to. Once you lower the font size, you should see the lyrics even out.

    I hope that helps!

  • I am having the same problem, in that on a particular slide, one line is a medium size and then the second line is huge, because it contains just two words. For sing-ability, I want that line to have two words. The font sizing doesn't seem to work.

I don't know what you mean by odd wrapping. I would like to be able to size the lyrics all the same on one slide. How?

Also, I was using a slide break tool and now its gone.

    Hi Secretary & FBC

Proclaim acts differently to the way you would expect a word processor to act. When handling words Proclaim acts like a Poetry processor. The practical effect of this is that where a line breaks is of importance. Important not only for 'sing-ability' but poetic and logical sense.

There used to be a radio show where one of the running jokes gave an extreme example...

Announcer– 'A young lady was walking down a dark alley when a hand came out and grabbed her corsets.'

Announcer - 'I'm sorry I'll read that again'...'A young lady was walking down a dark alley when a had came out and grabbed her. 'Course its not every day that this sort of thing happens...'

The line break can loose the sense.

There are three items that control the size of text in Proclaim.

One.  The size of the text box. Putting more lines of text will reduce the size of the font. Strangely the designers don't allow the changes in font size to filter back to the text size indicator making that item less than useful.

Two. The text size indicator that doesn't actually indicate the size of any text - it represents a text size aspiration. That is an aspiration that may never be met. This box is a real UI house of horrors candidate.

Three. Lines that are too long compared with the rest get their size reduced rather than have the program split the line at a sub-optimal point.

When I add a song my way of working is...

Select the song (ignoring how it looks)

    Set the background.

Resize and reposition the main text container to suit the background.

Change the text aspiration in the text size box. (We have LED screens rather than projectors so a point size of 75 to 80 is adequate)

Now look at the text and see if there are any lines too long for the container and adjust line breaks accordingly.

Set the colour and effects for the text.
