Background audio fade

Just wondering if I can add a wish list feature...

If I load up MP3s to play over the preservice loop, as soon as we move to the "warm-up" portion of the service, the MP3 abruptly stops and the warm-up takes over. Any way to add an audio fade between sections so that this isn't such a jarring experience?

Does the first item in your warm-up have audio as well? We don't support cross fade at the moment so in that case the audio source would swap abruptly.

I have the same problem as TC. The issue isn't really cross-fading, but simply wanting the "Stop Background Audio" que to fade out the audio rather than end the background audio abruptly.

I had this problem a while back when playing mp3's as background audio all the way up to the Service start time. And the mp3's just stopped abruptly in the middle of a song making for an awkward start of the service.

I've recently moved the "Stop Background Audio" que to the beginning of the "Warm-Up" section and I start a new song that is longer than 5min to be timed with a slide or 2, and a 5 minute countdown video. This makes a nice transition to start the service, but only recently have I noticed the "Stop Background Audio" que no longer is fading before the warm up, like it use to.

This was an issue that was fixed a while back. But only recently have I noticed that it no longer fades. I'm pretty sure I requested a fade several years ago, and I was excited that it was changed to actually fade. Although it still was a pretty fast audio fade (maybe 2 seconds), and I think a slow fade (about 7 seconds) would present much more professionally.

Perhaps someone else requested it stop abruptly? For me, generally abrupt audio endings sound like the audio engineer made a mistake as compared to a nice slow fade. I can't think of any circumstance in our services where we would want the background audio to just stop abruptly.

Again, It doesn't have to be a cross-fade, but just have the current background audio fade instead of stop abruptly.

At present, I'm inputting a "stop background audio" que on the Warm Up and then starting the final song on the next item (see attachment). . The only thing is that once again, there is no fade when stopping the background audio.

Hi Scott,

It doesn't matter if the adjoining items both have audio or not. Any item in Proclaim that has background audio stops abruptly when changing to the next slide.

For example, if you assign a 5min song as background audio to a 1min content slide, the audio ends abruptly with no fade out.

This is currently my biggest issue with Proclaim. I know someone had fixed this issue several years ago but it's back again.

I take that back.....

You are CORRECT that if a slide does NOT have background music AFTER a slide that DOES have background audio there is a fade in the audio of about 1/2 second. When two adjoining slides have different background audio the transition is an ABRUPT stop.

It's not the worst thing to assign a short slide without audio between different audio backgrounds in order to achieve an audio fade-out.

I guess what we are wanting is perhaps a 2 or 3 second fade as opposed to a 1/2 second fade.

Hi, Dave. I've done some investigating on this issue and I don't believe that it's a regression. As you correctly observed, two adjacent service items with unique audio will not cross-fade (we don't support cross-fade--hopefully in the future we will). However, when you place a slide with no audio between two service items with unique audio they should fade-in/out correctly. I've confirmed that this is the case with the most recent regression.

I believe the reason that you are experiencing the abrupt change in the audio revolves around the stop cue in the warm-up section. Here's how Proclaim interprets the sequence of events that you have set up in your order of service:

Play audio during the pre-service loop.
8:54 AM arrives, advance service item.
Currently playing audio, next service item also has audio, so no fade.

In this sequence of events the stop cue placed on the warm-up section is irrelevant because two adjacent service items have audio (the last slide playing in the pre-service loop and the first slide in the warm-up section).

I'd recommend inserting an extra slide in there that plays for two seconds at the beginning of the warm-up section. That way Proclaim will respect the audio stop cue that you place in the warm-up section and fade audio out of the pre-service loop for two seconds, starting the next song immediately after the fade is over. Here's how I did it:

Thanks Peter. I've been trying it as you described and have had acceptable results. I think I would still prefer the fade start a little sooner resulting in a more subtle, slower fade, since it knows when the slide ends. But I suppose that's a user preference.

It does work as you've shown and makes a huge difference by inserting a slide for a few seconds with no audio at the beginning of the warm up section.

I'm having the same problem here .... only with video. Sometimes it fades very nicely and other times very abruptly. I put the video at the end of my sermon only playing 2 min of the 4 minute video, with a Benediction (Content) slide that follows it.

Hi Fred,

I don't think there is a solution within Proclaim for fading videos (image or sound), especially when you specify a video to end at a particular point. It just ends at that point.

The only solution I know of would require trimming the video and would take more time/work. I usually just use iMovie or something similar where you can detach the audio track and fade it and also fade the image to black at the end, as well as a fade from black at the beginning.

In Proclaim, I usually program videos to "automatically advance" to the next slide - and place a blank CONTENT slide next, then I program the blank CONTENT slide to "auto-advance every 3 seconds". This seems to make it feel a little less of an abrupt ending.
