To help me better understand how this will work, can you explain what would happen in the following a scenario?

I have Logos 6 but I'm not a Logos Now member.
I decide to try Logos Now and I become a member for a year or two. This gives me access to all the Logos 7 features.
After a year or two, I choose not to renew my membership.
I understand what that means I'd give up, except in regard to the Logos Engine. Would I now lose access to all the Logos 7 features and revert back to Logos 6?

To be precise, no. Yes, it would mean that you would lose access to any of the features / datasets which you acquired (rented) via your Logos Now membership. "Logos 7" (just as is the case with "L6," "L5", etc.) is the software engine, so you would keep L7... just not the L7 features you didn't purchase separately from your Logos Now membership. You would still keep all features which come with the free L7 engine (as is always the case).

While a 5% discount doesn't sound too exciting (7% would be cool!), if I'm reading this right, when L7 rolls, I'll have access to all the new features etc. without buying a Gold+ base package or any crossgrade as long as I maintain my membership. Is that correct?

That is indeed good to hear. I'm more ready now to buy a base package than I was when 6 rolled, but at this point I also have most of what I really want/need in terms of resources. This change will bring more time and options in deciding, which is a very good thing.

Thanks, Alabama--that does help. I'm not sure if that's what Faithlife refers to as a "Core Crossgrade", but if I'm tracking with you, in essence it would be the same as if after the Logos 7 release, I waited until the free engine upgrade was available and went that route.

The benefit is that you would NOT have to purchase the features upgrade, just the new Portfolio library. If at any time in the future you decide to drop Logos Now membership, just purchase the feature upgrade at the 5% discount. However, for many people that day may never come. I seriously doubt I will ever waste the money on actually purchasing a license for the new features that will be added in the future. Library only upgrades for me. Moreover, the monthly discounts, free previews and Logos Now exclusive features must also be factored in as a benefit.

I have a vague memory from early on in the initial/original Logos Now offer, of people posting about huge automatic library downloads as a result of becoming a Logos Now member. If that was the case, will the same thing happen now? I'm particularly interested in the answer as I'm thinking about how that would affect me if I purchase one of the smaller (10-11 inch screen) Windows 10 tablets that may have as little as 32 GB of storage.

I think you may confuse this with Logos Cloud (which, after all, resembles a base package) where people did not expect something they thought resided in the cloud downloading to their machine. Logos Now will probably download a couple of interactives and some of the monthly free resources, but not a huge library.

I believe new content has been added... meaning: Previously there was content acquired via a base package and/or cross grade purchase. ALL of the older datasets are now included. If you owned them already, there is nothing "new" (although new materials continue to be made and added).

Just now having time to quickly look through this new program. Here are three quick conclusions that I drew. Please correct me if I am incorrect on any....

1) Rather than being a new thing, this is an improvement upon and clarification of Logos Now in light of Logos 7 likely being released later this Fall.

2) As a present Logos Now subscriber who is paid through October, I am automatically enrolled in the new membership program until it is time for my annual renewal.

3) My Logos Now subscription is now more valuable for the same $$ and I have several questions answered.

Personally, I like this idea. Logos is better off because they have a more consistent revenue stream, and I am better off because I have more value for my money and locked in discounts at any point. At first glance, I say "Great job, Logos and Faithlife!"

LN will have no new features for at least the next 3-4 months after the release of L7. And if they do have new features, that means, Logos is playing the evil-apple trick; not releasing full complete L7 capabilities but instead charging those other features that suppose to be released on L7 on day 1 to be on LN instead.
This "special discount" for members thingy, is weird. It just means, you have to pay to get discount... it kinda beats the purpose. (although it is a normal practice, it is too very aggressive for Christian business model).

On the other hand I do like the Mobile Ed perks (although I hope the video offers shouldn't be the same as Mobile Ed Subscription's offers)

I doubt this given the discipline of the 6 week cycle -- this type of shenanigans would be hard to maintain version control on. I would expect the first couple of versions to contain primarily things that beta testers requested too late in the 6 week cycle and features that were pulled because the beta testers found too serious problems to be resolved in the 6 week cycle. In short, I expect the 6 week cycle to work pretty much like cycles prior to the major release.

Think Amazon Prime, Costco membership ... each individual has to determine for themselves if the discounts exceed the membership cost.

Not sure I agree with this. For me the value is monetary: the primary reason I would get a L7 package is for functionality not resources. This being the case, and considering a 2 years upgrade cycle, will upgrading from a L6 to a L7 package with all the new features cost me less than 180$? (I am counting the cost for 2 years I'd be enjoying my L7 package until L8). Or do you see it differently?

The only downside I see is that if all the sudden, down the road, FL decides to increase the cost of membership significantly, those who don't own would be faced with the difficult decision of either paying up or else reverting to ownership (which could have also increased significantly at the same time).

I hope that membership does not rely excessively on Internet access. I often have to work offline and don't want to be limited or inconvenienced when that happens...

That is my understanding, with the caveat for (a) that you'd have the (otherwise free) L7 engine to keep but not the datasets & other pay features, should you ever drop Now.

For me, this seems to open up a lot of possibilities when 7 rolls, assuming it's anything like 6 was. Instead of having to buy a gold-level or higher library or the most expensive crossgrade option, I could just buy a silver package and still have all the L7 features. Or, maybe I'll buy two starter or bronze-level denominational packages instead of just one higher level package. I won't have to hurry and make a decision right away to see everything debuting in L7 because I'll have it through Now. All things being equal, I like the abundance of options this should provide.

Granted, Phil says he's using "made up" numbers, but they are so much greater than a 5% discount, that I wanted to verify we should not be expecting/hoping for anything more than a 5% discount on the L7 libraries as a benefit of being a Logos Now member. The text in italics below is the specific part of Phil's post that got my attention.

Putting some (made up) numbers to it, as a Logos 6 Gold owner you'd pay $500 to upgrade to the full Logos 7 Gold base package and own all of the new books as well as the features, datasets, interactives, etc.

A Logos 6 Gold owner who has a Logos Now subscription you'd pay only $250 to buy full ownership of the Logos 7 Gold library. You won't need to buy the Logos 7 Core, since you already have access to all of that (and more) with your Logos Now subscription. (If you later decide that Logos Now isn't for you, you'd be able to purchase the Logos 7 Core or another full Logos 7 base package to regain access to the Logos 7 features.)

I am very interested by the new Logos Now, but it seems to me silly to rush when I don't know what the alternative will be really be, namely, the Logos 7 packages. We can assume that they will be analogous to the Logos 6 packages, but we cannot know what will be included and whether something new to the package configuration will be introduced. I will wait. Hopefully, L7 does come out this Fall as we all expect/hope.

There are several different levels of price adjustments and discounts going on for Logos Now members:

Combo discount. First, our new model of libraries and feature sets as separate products means you're saving when you buy a library and a feature set together—or have a Logos Now membership, which grants you a perpetual combo discount on libraries and feature sets, even when purchased separately. Libraries are discounted by 10% and feature sets by 25% from their standalone prices.

Not quite true. There are a few features and supporting content, due to their ongoing web service costs (and a few other reasons), that we've decided to limit to Logos Now members and Logos Cloud subscribers in order to more directly fund those ongoing costs. So there will be a discrepancy from day one.

We've tried to design Logos Now to be a beneficial program for all types of customers:

No matter which buckets you fall into, there are benefits to being a Logos Now member. It's not an alternative to full base package ownership. It's actually quite a nice supplement and support to it in many cases.

There are in many scenarios pretty compelling reasons why even those committed to full ownership of a Logos 7 base package (library + feature set) would want to seriously consider buying a Logos Now membership before or with their Logos 7 base package purchase. Depending on the size of the purchase, the 5% additional savings may by itself be larger than the cost of membership.
