Can location for data files be different from program files?

I have purchased a mini computer/tablet running Windows 10 and am wanting to run the regular Logos rather than the tablet version. The internal drive of the computer is too small to hold all of books I have purchased (over 20gb.), and I need to have the book files reside on an SD card that I insert in the computer. Can this be done? If so, how?

Logos wiki page shows unsupported method of relocating Resources folder on OS X. Windows 2000 and higher can use junction for directory symbolic link => https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896768.aspx MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) has article about hard links and junctions => https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa365006(v=vs.85).aspx

My personal unsupported MacBook Air (MBA) variant of using fast USB storage is placing my Resources folder on USB, which leaves all application database files on internal storage. My Resources folder is four times larger than available internal free space. Hence, my Logos application has 20% of storage internally and 80% externally with minimal risk of USB (external drive) interface issues.

Caveat: need to be careful handling MBA to keep USB drive attached. Gravity assisted quick exit from a vehicle where USB drive snapped apart; was thankful could snap USB drive back together and continue using it.

This moves the whole program to a different drive. I only want the resource files (my books) on a separate drive, with the program itself on the C drive. Can that be done?

For SD card, would choose fast: e.g. SanDisk UHS Class 3 (or faster) => https://www.sandisk.com/home/memory-cards/sd-cards/extremepro-sd-uhs-i that has read and write speed over 90 MB/Sec. By way of comparison, a hard disk has transfer speed range of 50 to 120 MB/sec => http://www.storagereview.com/ssd_vs_hdd so fast SDXC card performance is similar to a spinning hard disk. Older SD Card technology can be sluggishly slower (less than 10 MB/sec). In contrast, USB drives can be noticeably faster: e.g. SanDisk Extreme USB 3 has Read speed up to 245 MB/sec => http://www.sandisk.com/products/usb/drives/extreme/

Conceptually, the unsupported steps for Windows 10 are similar to OS X (mac OS) Relocate your Resources folder for Logos, Verbum, & Noet applications:

Custom install Application on C: Drive with uncheck of “Automatically Download Updates”
Install or Connect New Volume (appears in File Explorer "This PC" for SDXC card or fast USB drive)
Make sure Application and its Indexer are NOT running
Copy your Resources folder to New Volume (from ResourceManager folder)
Move your Resources folder to the recycle bin and optionally empty recycle bin to free up internal storage space
Create a Directory Symbolic link (Junction) for the Resources folder on New Volume (into ResourceManager folder)
Open Application when New Volume is mounted on Windows (appears in File Explorer "This PC" for SDXC card or fast USB drive)

For Step 5 in Windows, can use shift+delete of Resources folder for immediate deletion that does not go to recycle bin.

Technical trivia: Mac OS had Trash Can before Microsoft Windows had Recycle Bin.
