SUGGESTION: Logos + Bible + Map Resources should actually work - together in tandem please.

I would like to suggest that Logos +One Top Bible of a person's choice + maps (any and all that a user might choose using the "+" next to any open book SHOULD ACTUALLY WORK.

I am still stunned and disappointed that something like an electronic Rose Publishing Insert purchased with Logos (once linked to a Bible) will not open to the appropriate map for example. (Addendum: I checked after I posted this initially and some of the maps withing Logos itself do not open if linked either. What a shame...this is basic!)

Thank God for the ESV Bible which has some maps in it or I would be lost for sure. Why O Why can't I open a Bible and some maps and have them track with me?!!

I click on the tab next to an open book and get a list of resources that do not even match the book I am in (see below).
Am I doing something wrong?

Is is wrong to imagine I could actually create an Acts layout (for example) that has maps that track with me as I read a Bible and make use of available resources I have purchased within Logos please?

I have Logos Now and Baptist Silver 6.x.

I had to manually choose the right map (or chapter) myself in the photo below. Incredibly when I hit the Plus ( + ) next to the last book I had open in Logos so I could select some map resources, I found a lot of stuff (see second photo please) that was from Isaiah (another class I am taking) and
Amos (which is a class I am not taking but expect to get to in Church Bible Study soon though).

In short there was not much that once I linked it to my Bible passage and all other books that -

WOULD ACTUALLY TRACK WITH ME.

Can't the software figure it out knowing where I am in the text within my Bible please?

Logos I suggest you revamp your +tab menu system so it intuitively picks up related resources more accurately once linked to a Bible passage . When I link the map for example, it should actually alter and mirror where I am in the Biblical world (maybe even make a suggestion to me if it can be done).

Some forum posters have previously suggested I need to create a new Logos layout or tool and drag it in when I need it. I am actually trying to do that but find it close to impossible to achieve accurately. Must I create a new layout or tool every time just to open a Bible and a useful map?!!

So one more time - my suggestion is that you please work to make a Bible open alongside Rose Bible inserts or other Logos Map resources, that actually show a reader where in the Biblical world they are please. No wonder so many of us remain Bible Geography illiterates...the effort it takes to improve ourselves using Logos is frankly exhausting.

Tools and maps within Logos seem to exist but they don't work in an intuitive easy fashion. Look at all the circled items that have nothing to do with the Acts passage I am in. This is really a mess!

God bless your efforts to make this work better and well. I suggest bible and map tools that actually work together and track well with a bible reader please. This is basic functionality that Logos seems to be missing.

When you turn Logos on, imho it should give you some basic info like a bible and a series of maps from ones's purchased resources at the very least.
This is where I would begin immediately to revamp, simplify, and improve Logos - not more fancy circle graphics tools or original language "nuancers" (that is my word) that I can imagine most will never use.

Stop with the fancy tools. Revamp and simplify what you already have please. Consider utilizing some people who want to make use of your software without going to computer programming school please.

I hate to break it to you but computers have no intuition [;)] Especially when it comes to Vyrso resources such as those from Rose Publishing. Vyrso is cheap BECAUSE it does not have Logos tagging necessary to allow features such as following along with scripture. Do not ever expect Logos quality behavior from Vyrso products unless you want to continually disappoint yourself. It ain't gonna work - ever.[:(]

hmm....you raise a valid point MJ. I hadn't considered that I pulled the inserts from Vyrso instead of Logos first.

Doesn't it seem that this sort of thing should be basic within Logos though? Expecting a map to track with you or maybe a new one to open as you read along in a text to me seems like a great idea. The ESV seems to do it already.

I wonder if anyone at Logos will read this and put something in the blog about how to read a Bible and track with the map tools within Logos. I would save that, print it, and email it to myself too - just to get it to work as I expect.

Addendum: I bought the above and then realized later that I already had a deluxe 3d Logos version within the software. No idea why it doesn't work though. Sigh. God help us all.

Have you tried using Explorer Tool, which can follow Biblical Passages ? (basic functionality that works with maps in one's library)

Edit: Quirky part of using a custom guide linked to Bible is choosing pericope set of verses in Guide that includes contextual place reference(s).

Thanks Keep. I continue to make what I believe to be normal regular use of Logos and not seeing it do what I believe it should easily do.

I know I am not alone. I tried the custom guide thing but have not spent much time with Explorer tool...will give it a go.

As for the questions - they seek specifics and I am really trying in my own to be detailed - but not able to express specifically what I think is a simple interface problem.

Logos in some cases just doesnt do what we think it should or could do.

I may have to conclude that it is simply not possible for me to

Open a Bible and have another window open adjacent with a map that can follow along with me (unless I choose the ESV which has the maps in it).

I am not ready to throw in the towel yet. I will give Explorer a look though.....thanks. [:P]

I appreciated the detail as this time it helped resolve one of the problems making this difficult for you. I wish we could share layouts as what you want here is reasonable and can be done reasonably well. What to me is the missing piece is what you are actually doing that doesn't work. When I get back home, I may try to walk you through the pieces.

ESV does it but I want to use NASB and/or NKJV and they do not have maps.

So I then try to open other resources in a different column and then the fun (pain) begins....

Pericope 'The Healing of Aeneas" in Acts 9:32-35 includes where Peter is going after Lydda, but does not specify where Peter came from while traveling to Lydda. The preceding pericope of "Saul in Jerusalem" in Acts 9:26-31 does not mention Peter. Maps can show what Biblical Places are specifically mentioned with shortest route marked between them, which may be quite different than route actually traveled.

Explorer includes maps in MEDIA section. Custom Guide (subset of Passage Guide) includes Map thumbnails in Biblical Places section, which can be different than Explorer

Most important question to answer is "What is challenging to do ?" along with description of what is desired.

Faithlife development team includes User Interface designer, who wants Logos to be viable for wide range of usage. Thankful for developers working on items for easier use: e.g. Interactive resources, Morph Query, Bible Browser, Fuzzy Bible Search, ... plus Thankful for complex capabilities: e.g. search has many powerful variants.

Faithlife developers have enabled many ways to customize Logos usage, which can be a bit complex to setup and tweak. Once learned, customization can be a few mouse clicks with a little typing: e.g. creating a custom guide with desired subset of sections.

Thankful for many friendly forum discussions; have learned a lot plus have a lot to learn. Researching questions about what/how to do something using Logos has enhanced my ability to use Logos efficiently. Programming background has helped while working on personal books since can intelligently guess how the compiler was implemented so can figure out a method for one line glossary pop-up in Lexham Discourse resources.

Currently learning to use Logos efficiently is similar to learning how to drive a vehicle; a tractor trailer has many customizable combinations. Automatic self driving is not yet a viable reality, which will still need traveler input for destination. An ideal "smart" vehicle will have feedback about trip viability: e.g. driving a car from Rhode Island to Europe has a water obstacle plus passport and visa requirements.
