Collections
Well, I have managed to download and index the new program, though it took quite a while (about 12 hours). The first thing that I noticed is that all of my collections are gone. Is there something that I need to move over or copy into this version in order to continue to use all of my collections?
Of course, given the incredibly fast searchs of all of my books, collections are not nearly as needed as they were in version 3. I can see, however, how one might want to use collections in order to get a smaller number of hits.
I haven't had any crashs yet and the download, though it took a while, all went ahead with no problems. I will be loading this onto my desktop tomorrow or Wednesday and will be anxious to see if the same smooth process happens there.
Thanks for any help

Good Q! I would like Logos to convert v3 collections to v4 format to get us going OR provide standard collections as are currently available from Morris Proctor. I just compiled my first collection by having v3 on one monitor and selecting the same resources in v4 on another monitor! It is a little better than v3 because I could specify "Greek Bible" and remove/add resources for my collection.

One thing I have noticed in the collection that needs rectifying is that all the books are split up, for example in version 3 if I were to select a certain bible commentary like Life Application I can select it and it is fine, however on version 4 the Life Application is split into the different 66 different books of the bible and thereforeif if I want that whole collection I then would have to click and select on all those 66 books compared to 1 book for the entire collection in version 3. Therefore my small custom collection will turn into a collection of over a few hundred books by the time I've added some more commentatires etc. for example.
Unless I am mistaken, is this right or am I missing something?

Try resources matching:
series:"life application"

Thanks Jacob, but that still doesn't solve the issue.

Is the problem that you cannot easily create a collection containing all of the Life Application Commentary titles?0 -
No probs and thanks Jacob, I've worked it out.

Is the a command or search term that allows a collection to be the basis of a another collection?
i.e. being able to type something similar to collection:nonBibles in the 'start with' box
Is there a way to copy a collection so that it becomes the basis for a new collection?
Thanks.
BTW. I needed some notes and stuff from LDLS3 last night ... it already seems so antiquated to use.

Two days makes a difference! Get Logos to supply some basic query-based Collections because they will work for everybody's resources and kick-start people into using the queries. The query base will soon convince you that the only collections from v3 are those that have to be built manually.

Yes and you've probably seen other answers by now! e.g for a collection of non-Bibles (all books except bibles) type
rating:>=0 -type:bible
Drag & drop a collection name from the Open dialog into the Plus box to start another collection!

In making a collection, is there a way to drag more than one book at a time to "Minus these resources"? At this point, I can only drag one book!

from past Logos posts...no...what exactly are you trying to subtract from your collection?

It would be great when we are creating a collection and drag one book to the Minus side, that the list for the "resulting collection" would not automatically go to the beginning each time. Instead if it would remain at the last position that you were at, when you pulled the "minus" book out. At this point, with every book taken to the Minus side, the list for the resulting collection goes back to the beginning, and I have to scroll down to where I was, to make the next removal.

I am making a collection of dictionaries that give cultural insights. I just typed "dictionaries," which of course brought up Hebrew, Greek, Aramaic, and English dictionaries as well, which I do not want.
I also want a collection of archaeological information. But there are some books that I do not want included. Thus I would like to remove this with just one removal to the "Minus" side. I hold the shift key and it does indeed highlight the books, but when I move my cursor to the "Minus," only the last book in the list goes.
I know that this was a point that was brought up in the past with previous versions of Libronix, in that we had to make singular selections. I was hoping that there was an easier way to remove the "unwanted books"! [:(]

Charlene,
you could get more specific with your query and that would do it....like:
type:journal name:spade (this would target only bible and spade)
you get the idea; whatever tags are particular to your intended resource are what you choose.

How close would subject:arch get you?

Philip,
Basic Logos Forum question: How do you have the selected comment by me that you want to respond to, highlighted in blue? Sorry to ask just a basic question, but I just don't know! : )

Rather then select "Quick reply" under my comment, select "reply" in the upper right corner. Then highlight the section of the quote you want to and click the "quote" link. If you don't select anything it selects everything.

David: Thanks for this, and yes I had seen it.
I was not thinking about the english bibles specifically but about nested collections where collection B is based upon collection A.
Collection A is a large collection of manually collated resources that I would like to use as the basis for collections B, C and D, without having to manually compile the lists again, and without having to amend collections BCD when a new resource needs to be added to collection A.
Upon further reflection, I realise this can be done by tagging the resources in collection A as 'CollA' or similar etc. and then use that in the search term for the other collections. My concern is the number of terms used in a collection search, then number of tags that are created etc. My mind works along a tree structure of inherited terms and manual modifications.
I think I need to get my head around a different, non-hierarchical way of looking at data. I think that basing collections upon collections might be useful as would the ability to start a collection by copying an existing collection.

This was a start, but didn't include any of the Bible and Spade journals or other ones that I wanted. But it was a start. Thanks!

I found this to be quite annoying too. The next book in the list should be selected. That would make removing books much easier.

It is so strange, but when I do that, Bible and Spade does not come up! I'm told there are 0 resources, even though they are in My Library!

I think what you are actually shooting for is type:Journal title:spade
