I use the highlighting feature quite often. But I am looking for an arrow that can begin at a word, cross several lines of text, and point at a second word/phrase. Any thoughts or solutions?

Me too. I asked about it way back in 2009! Highlighting Request: The old circle and arrow trick.
I even built a mockup.
We still don't have it.

To post a screen shot, you use the paperclip icon in the formatting pallet. It must be the right kind of file format (I believe .png or .jpg... maybe others).

Concur highlighting lacks ability to draw arrows while highlighting words (or adding something):
