Using an iPad Pro 12.9 Split Screen w/Sermon Doc and Proclaim Remote in Pulpit?

I have an in-the-pulpit-question. This may be clunky, but I want to know if anyone is doing this. I'm considering purchasing an iPad Pro 12.9 and subscribing to Proclaim. My thoughts are to do a horizontal split screen with the ipad - having proclaim remote on one side so I have control of the projector during my message, and having a logos sermon doc on the other side with my notes.

Anyone doing this or have good suggestions to try it or not?

But just wanted to mention that in the Proclaim remote control app you can see all the sermon document contents in the notes field of the slides. So you may be able to get away with just using the Proclaim app.

You lose some of the formatting that you get in the actual sermon document but worth considering as an option. Again something I am thinking about as part of considering moving to use Proclaim

This is an interesting thought. If your church is able to run the service from Proclaim and it's not a distraction for you or the congregation to keep control in the pulpit, I say give it a go. I'd be interested in hearing how that panned out for you.

I do and I really like it. Before I had the 9.7" and it was ok, but it was too cramped for it to do double duty, but the bigger screen is much nicer. I use OmniOutliner to do my notes because I can save style templates and make my notes just like I want, and then I export to PDF and read in Goodreader. Here is how it comes out.

This Proclaim view is not what it looks like when preaching and choosing slides, unfortunately. I wish it was. It is mostly wasted space, actually, and I really hope they come up with a better use of the space.

I wasn’t able to go on air to give you an actual screenshot, but here is basically what it looks like:

Tiny previews that is very difficult to tell what you are clicking on.
Lots of wasted space
Unreliable Notes area - The Preview area above will split vertically in that super narrow space to make the notes show on one side, and the image on the other.
You can't preview any notes until that slide is live.

I would REALLY like to have a remote layout option that looked similar to the first screenshot, that showed the notes in between each image where the titles are.

That would allow previewing of notes beforehand, for preaching as well as other parts of the service that involved other people.

But as far as the iPad 12.9", I recommend it! One plus to consider about the larger screen version is that If you do the 50/50 split screen, it shows full vertical layout of apps rather than the smaller version that usually fits in the 1/3 screen. As it is right now, I often end up moving Proclaim to the 50/50 view to help some of the annoyances above, though I wish I didn’t have to.

Nice! I appreciate the screenshots and in depth review of the process. It's important to me that I only include technology in my work if I see it as benefiting/simplifying the process. Beyond that paper, pen and a printer do just fine. So this is helpful.

Philip - Do you use OmniOutliner and GoodReader because it won't split with Logos...or just a preference to control the template style?

Apple has a keynote on September 12th. Afterwards I may go look closer at the 12.9 and then put it on my wish list. It's a hefty investment (ipad, diapers, ipad, diapers...hhhmmm) ya know? haha

I wouldn't want to use proclaim by itself to preach if I can't see notes until the slide is active. Perhaps that works for some.

I use Omnioutliner because the temlpates I can set up, I can adjust the spacing to fit more on a page, and it snaps to the right formatting based on the indent level, so it cuts out all the toolbar clicking and hotkeying in the sermon editor in logos.

I export to PDF and use goodreader so I can make 2 columns and make last minute notes and highlights like I would with paper. Also, because I like fixed pages better than scrolling. Helps me not get lost.

Split screen works fine with Logos and Proclaim. I use the other apps for the other reasons.

The iPad isn't due for any updates, so I wouldn’t expect any new ipads on the 12th.

It's a hefty investment, but for preaching I really like it. Having enough space for both the remote and my notes to fit comfortably on one screen (I also load up a countdown timer video to play in PiP mode to float on top of everything as well) without having to scroll or cramp things is really nice. I think if you want this kind of double duty to work well, the bigger screen really pays off. I had the 9.7" before and it just wasn’t enough screen space to run both, so I usually used my phone to be the remote.
